Is £2,500 for a 10 night holiday 'cheap'?

So I've just added up the cost of our holiday, based on realistic costs from menus and taxi quotes, hotel costs, flight costs etc. This includes all costs I can think about other than souvenirs. Staying at good 3* hotels, with no self catering.

It's for two adults. So it's £1,250 each. Would you say that's cheap or an expensive holiday? Trying to settle a debate with my sister!

Obviously it depends on your personal budget/priorities, I get that! But I thought £2,500 for 10 nights all in, was quite good.

I think that's quite a good price. We usually go for 10 days, and expect to pay approx £1200 per person, all inclusive, with TUI.

GulesMeansRed · 20/06/2023 14:05

If the 10 nights is on a Pacific island at the height of the bargain, it's a steal.

If it's a tacky spot of the Med in February, it's expensive.

Far far too many variables to say one way of the other. And it's up to you how much money you spend on your holiday, isn't it?

GulesMeansRed · 20/06/2023 14:05

Height of the season.

QforCucumber · 20/06/2023 14:09

We're doing 4 people, All Inclusive for 10 nights for just under £4k - so just under £1kpp (one of them is a 3 year old so know the balance isn't exact mind)

kriket · 20/06/2023 14:11

It's 10 nights in the Caribbean, 5 nights in Guadeloupe and 5 nights in Martinique. Albeit yes, we are going at the start of their low season.

This.

I never understand questions like this. MN seems to love asking 'how long is a piece of string' type questions.

You could do it for less, or could pay a lot more.

Is it good value for the level of hotel, flight times, time of year, type of eating out (burger bar or fine dining, tap water or vintage champagne?), etc, who knows?

Are you booking in advance or is it last minute, so you've missed the best deals? I almost had a 'sod it' moment about going away during October half term week until I saw that flights for two of us would be £1k instead of £400 the week before, and that's before I'd started looking at hotels, car hire etc, so we probably won't bother.

Plus then there's the affordability issue. If you're struggling to pay your mortgage and other essentials, it might be better to give a holiday like this a miss but if you have plenty of spare money, it's fine to spend that amount.

Alsobeyondshit · 20/06/2023 14:13

Yes, cheap! We got a pretty standard Spanish island week away in May for about £1800 all in and we did it as cheap as poss without being totally crap.

LadyTemperance · 20/06/2023 14:14

It sounds like a good deal to me. Do you not normally go abroad, what are you comparing it to?

TeeBee · 20/06/2023 14:14

All in, including food? I'd say that's cheap.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/06/2023 14:14

Just missed your update. That's less than I'd think it would cost for 10 days in the Caribbean, but then I'd worry that 'low season' meant hurricanes, which would utterly ruin a beach/watersport/outdoors holiday. to the extent that I wouldn't go at that time of year, however 'cheap' it appeared to be.

Tracker1234 · 20/06/2023 14:16

Don’t go in Hurricane season. It’s bloody crap. Driving rain, wind lashed beaches and often power cuts. That sounds very cheap and there is ALWAYS a reason why it’s priced like that!

AlltheFs · 20/06/2023 14:19

I think that’s good. We did 14 nights in a SC villa in Spain and that cost £5k for everything (2 adults and a 3 year old).

kriket · 20/06/2023 14:26

We aren't going in hurricane season. We are just not going during peak tourist times for those islands.

It's not cheap, it's not ultra luxury. I personally would expect 4 star all inclusive for that price. For comparison we paid £2k this year for 2 people 4 star med, though full disclosure, we did save £100 because we got lifts to and from the airport

RoachFish · 20/06/2023 14:35

It's super cheap! £125/pp per day including everything.

Hbh17 · 20/06/2023 14:35

Well, it's all relative, but for 2 adults for 10 days I'd expect about £5,000 so - yes - seems cheap to me.

dearJayne · 20/06/2023 14:36

Cheap

OdeToBarney · 20/06/2023 14:38

I would worry about the quality of the hotel and food for that amount OP.

wutheringkites · 20/06/2023 14:39

Sounds cheap. What is a 3* in the Caribbean like? I find that star ratings mean very different things around the world. I'm not sure I'd be confident about the quality of food you would be getting.

kriket · 20/06/2023 14:41

Probably should have included in the OP that flights were super cheap as we had points to use against them (I think rtn was £400 which is basically just the tax element).

OP posts:
wutheringkites · 20/06/2023 14:43

Yeah, that does change things a lot. So you're spending around £2k on hotels for AI for 10 nights?

JeandeServiette · 20/06/2023 14:45

How?

I've just paid 1300£ for a return flight from Heathrow to Martinique for this August.

kriket · 20/06/2023 14:51

I wasn't going to include the destination originally, because the cost of our flights meant that it was the same as going to Spain or Greece for example. Plus Martinique and Guadeloupe are some of the cheaper Caribbean islands thankfully.

Are you flying from France or from the UK?

From the U.K, via Charles de Gaulle & Port a Prince (so through Gwada). But surely the cross channel leg is a small part of the ticket price?
