7 nights 4* or 10 nights 2*

What do you reckon?

Is it better to go for 7 nights in a good 4 hotel (which would be 5 in Turkey...) or to go 10 nights in a 2*?

I wouldn’t do a 2. 7 days 4 seems better value

JanesBlond · 16/06/2023 16:02

Are you going to do anything in particular with the extra 3 days that you wouldn’t be able to do otherwise?

Tare · 16/06/2023 16:02

Hands down 7 days in a 4*!

AndrexPuppy · 16/06/2023 16:03

No way would I do a 2*.

notacooldad · 16/06/2023 16:07

I would do 7 days.

JanesBlond · 16/06/2023 16:15

I suppose it also depends on the difference between the 2 and 4* and whether it’s something that matters to
you. The definitions vary by country but stars aren’t generally actually an indicator of quality but of provision of facilities. For example a U.K. hotel can’t score a 4 if it doesn’t have a restaurant open for dinner. But if you prefer to go to local restaurants instead that might be fine.

rookiemere · 16/06/2023 16:18

Gosh I'd rather not go at all if 2 star, unless it's skiing and it's literally a bed for the night.

If money is tight I'd much rather stay at a good apartment which often costs the same or less than a cheap hotel.

Parvolax · 16/06/2023 16:19

7 nights

amylou8 · 16/06/2023 16:35

Both are likely to be a bit rough around the edges, the star system in Turkey is not equivalent to what you'd expect in the UK. I'd base it on reviews, have a look on trip advisor and see what people are saying. The difference between the 2 and the 4 could be a hairdryer in the bathroom.

leggytroll · 16/06/2023 16:36

Without competition it's got to be shorter holiday in a better accommodation. I'd never do a 2 star, I'd rather stay at home if it's not better than my home standards and experience it's not worth it.

JeminaPudd · 16/06/2023 16:39

There's no chance I'd stay in a 2*.

DutchCowgirl · 16/06/2023 16:42

It really depends on the location and the looks of the hotel for me. I’ve stayed in a lovely 2 star motel in Key West last month, lovely swimming pool, nice breakfast… spotless and clean. Didn’t miss any stars at all. It was the best hotel of our trip, while the others were 3 and 4 stars.

But it depends where. Star ratings can come down to really random things

Quality wins over quantity.
I regard 2* as just a tad better than a tent.

This. A 4 star hotel isn't necessarily any nicer than a 2 star.

The 2 star could be clean, comfortable and modern, while the 4 star could be grubby and dated with a load of features that you'll never use like a business centre.

No-one can objectively reject a 2 star in favour of a 4 star without further information.

WonderDays · 16/06/2023 19:40

I recently returned from a 4 star hotel in Turkey and I didn’t think anyone would want for more, it was so nice and the views were 10 star.
So I would pick 4 star for a week.

ThePoshUns · 16/06/2023 19:42

7 days 4*

LIZS · 16/06/2023 19:42

Shorter holiday but better hotel

Could you please share the name of the hotel? They are sooo expensive! Only need one night.

NowZeusHasLainWithLeda · 17/06/2023 07:18

I research a lot before booking anywhere and my filter is:
4 star
3 star official but needs perfect reviews on Tripadvisor etc.
Also depending on the place. I've booked a 3 star this summer in Austria (last one was in Toledo) but the reviews are all 5 green circles.

It was the Hibiscus Motel. The pictures on their website don’t do it justice. The pool and all the palmtrees are lovely. And you can walk up to the southernmost point and the free Duval-loop bus stops in front of it and takes you to the centre (which is in theory walkable also, but the heat…) Maybe we were just lucky but their cleaning service was the best of our trip.

rookiemere · 17/06/2023 08:05

Actually to be fair I am staying in a nice 2 star hotel for the Lytham St Annes festival- its the St Ives, it has a pool, great homemade dinner and breakfast and generally all ok. Probably wouldn't want to spend a week there, definitely not 10 days.
