Where would you go for the month of February?

I'm thinking of going away for the whole of Feb, I'll have finished a big project at work and have had a rough year. I've got tons of leave to use up, somewhere warmish, travelling as a 50 odd year old woman alone.

I've thought about Malta, Granada, and not really anywhere else yet.

I won't be driving so I need to get from the airport and trains/public transport to do things.

Not planning anything hectic, gentle walks and seeing whatever happens to be open, relaxing with a few books mostly!

The canaries are nice in feb.

if you want further afield Malaysia is lovely too. We went to an amazing hotel in Penang which had an adults only wing.

Hong Kong is also great at that time of year.

Sorry not Granada, that is my next weekend away!

Thailand is very nice

Thank you, not sure I want to go too far away. It will be my first break away on my own post recovery from the C word. Ideally I want 20 degrees and a bit of sun.

I did think about going on a cruise (never been on one) but single supplements are ridiculous, I can hire a nice apartment for the month in, Malta for instance, for ½ the price of a week long cruise.

I could happily spend a month on one of the Canary Islands.

dreamingofsun · 11/06/2023 20:06

i'd rather go to canaries than malta. unless you are really into history and then malta might be better. or costa del sol - and accept the weather may not be as warm

MaterDei · 11/06/2023 20:08

Egypt or morroco

Frankie789 · 11/06/2023 20:08

I’ve been to Malta in April and it was 17 degrees and windy so felt cooler, only really had one day of great weather in a week.

Canary Islands might be a good option, could look at getting the ferry between them and island hopping.

Rosesroseseverywhere · 11/06/2023 20:08

I've said this before but Madeira, in particular Funchal. Enough to do, but also relaxed enough to do nothing, warm and sunny without being scorching.
And to top it all, it's just so beautiful- flowers, greenery - all very lush

omnishambles · 11/06/2023 20:10

Another vote for madeira. Very easy, warm, great food, friendly and gentle and challenging walking if required.

bluebirdsongs · 11/06/2023 20:25

Portugal?
Lisbon
Porto
Then wherever else your trip any take you

Sewingdufus · 11/06/2023 20:30

Puerto Vallarta in Mexico

Missingthesnow2 · 11/06/2023 20:46

We’ve had lovely 20 degree sunshine in February in southern Spain. The train network looks decent (not used it) so I’d do Seville, Jerez, Cordoba etc in various nice B&B’s and enjoy the scenery and food/wine. Also amazing value compared to UK/France etc.

Twilightstarbright · 11/06/2023 20:46

Costa del Sol is normally 18c and sunny. You can travel around by train and explore all over Spain and even Morocco/North Africa.

Also came to say Funchal in Madeira. Had a great time there this February.

midsomermurderess · 11/06/2023 20:52

I agree with Madeira, it's rather magical, this stunningly-verdant, terraced island out in the Atlantic. It's quite sleepy, you could do some waking in the levadas, hang out a bit in Funchal, generally chill out. The north tends to be wetter and cooler than the south. I've always hired a car so don't know how public transport is.

Malaga might be worth thinking about to. Buzzy city, easy, I think you make side trips by train and bus.

New Zealand

I see you've said 'not too far' and obviously this is about as far as you can get Grin but NZ is a very, very easy country to travel in. If you are from the UK, then it all feels familiar. You drive on the left, English is the main language. Everywhere is set up for people traveling. Roads are quiet. Scenery is so beautiful - stunning in fact. February is warm but not too hot - end of their Summer.
Can't recommend it enough, but you do need a decent length of time to make the travel worth while, and you do say you have a month.
Go to the Fiords / Sounds on the South Island as a definite.

This was my previous experience - but this year we had some horrendous rain - we were away for two weeks mid-February and didn't get any properly warm weather until the last few days . Won't put me off going in future though.

cheapskatemum · 11/06/2023 21:01

Came on here to say Kenya, but that might be too far.

trulyunruly01 · 11/06/2023 21:06

I thirds Madeira.
Take an apartment in the Royal Savoy, wander the old town, walk the proms, mooch the market, and if you fancy a trip out you can easily book one from there, they do hotel pick ups.
The food 🤩

GenerallyGreenerGrass · 11/06/2023 21:12

You can get really pleasant weather on the Costa del Sol in February.
There’s a train runs from Malaga airport to Fuengirola, with stops in between and buses run all along the coast.
If you book Air B & B’s you could spend a week in different places along the coast.
My favourite place is Estepona, in fact if you want a really nice base, that would be my first choice.

Hoppinggreen · 11/06/2023 21:13

Seville as a base but with trips to Cadiz, Granada, Cordoba

GoddessOfFire · 11/06/2023 21:15

Thanks, I'll have a look at Madeira.

I'm need to get a couple of hospital appointments out of the way before I renew my annual travel policy - could be painful, hence wanting to stay in Europe.

If I was going further afield I would go to Goa or Rajasthan. I have really close friends who originate from both places and they would help to sort me out with a trip.

Vietnam. I did this a couple of years ago; it was perfect.
