Family rooms!

I am looking for a week's holiday in Europe near a coast, any coast with a decent enough budget.

Why oh why is it so hard to find a hotel room where the kids aren't on a sofa bed?!

What do most families of four do - two interconnected rooms or do you fork out for a two bed suite?

This is why we always end up in AirBnBs, not hotels.

Caulidop · 05/06/2023 21:04

There are lots of this type of hotel in Antalya area. I agree it's a battle finding places with separate actual beds though. Depending on where your looking some chains do this a lot better than others too (eg. Accor). Were you looking for a hotel resort type holiday or just a hotel?

SlumMumBum · 05/06/2023 21:16

Ideally a hotel resort for a week at the end of the school holidays just to kick back before term starts.

I've stayed in hotels that have a small separate room, even just for bunk beds, so there is some living space for the adults.

It seems that it's almost impossible to find a workable hotel room without selling a kidney..

You can get 2-bed-suites but they are quite expensive. We stopped with hotels when DD was 12 as she complained about the sofa bed.

We started again with hotels when she was a sensible 15 and had her own room.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/06/2023 21:45

We had a great 2 bedroom and a living room ‘family room’ in Turkey last year, and another big room with bums at the end with a curtain divider in Mexico just before covid.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 05/06/2023 21:45

I've stayed in two bed apartments when I've been away with friends before.

Do you remember where in Turkey?

Perhaps my expectations are too high..

Bunks not bums!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/06/2023 21:57

It was called the Arum Barut Collection near Side. We went last October half term so not peak season. All of the Barut hotels are supposed to be very good

Buddha15 · 05/06/2023 21:59

I’ve been looking for the same and I’ve found Tui have some places with family rooms - this could be bunk beds in a closed off separate area or a separate room with twin beds. But it all depends on budget really.

FlutteryButterfly · 05/06/2023 22:04

Well we have stuck to whatever the standard set- up for our family size 2A, 2 C. So normally 1 room. If lucky 2 X Twin beds but most commonly 1 X Twin, 1 × singke and 1 pullout bed. We've always coped, ots so expensive to upside or add an extra room.

vivaespanaole · 05/06/2023 22:14

They do exist but you dont seem to be able to search for them, you have to click through each hotel and look and the photos on the results list.

We had one in Crete. The adult room and bathroom and then a sliding door with twin beds and the terrace. So good separation. Then same again in Corfu last year.

Can you use an online travel agent/travel counsellor to find you a room and holiday that matches your criteria. They then provide you with a shortlist via email.

Caulidop · 05/06/2023 22:15

Look at hotels in Belek. There are others in the Antalya area too but quite a high concentration in Belek seem to have what you're looking for

Alittlesummeroasis · 05/06/2023 22:18

We always tend to look for apartments rather than hotels. Search for self-catering apartments and you might find more options in budget.

Sunflowergirl1 · 05/06/2023 22:19

So yes, this is why we book an apartment or villa through various means but not via a mainstream agent. Think Booking.com etc. Makes a mask e difference with cost

gogohmm · 05/06/2023 22:21

I found an amazing hotel in Morocco today with 2 bedroom suites. Was not cheap -£1200 for the week not including flights in term time

Livinginanotherworld · 05/06/2023 22:22

We always used to do inter-connecting rooms, job done

SlumMumBum · 05/06/2023 22:23

Thanks, all.

All the ones I've been looking at don't appear to have two bedroom suites for any less than £7 - 8k. The travel counsellor idea is a really good one.

If I find any gems, I will report back.

We always have the exact same issue. Usually DH and I sleep on the sofa beds as we'll stay up later but I come back feeling more tired than then when we left!

We have this hotel booked, it's in Greece and has two bedroom suites with kitchenettes. Thomsons do a package: www.valtosbeach.gr

Christ I don't how to do short link but the above is a suite with seperate rooms. My sister has been. Twice.

3.5k for a week in Spain thoughConfused

Bunnycat101 · 05/06/2023 22:42

I find it so bizarre that not more places offer it. Even a sliding door to a small ish room would give a bit more privacy and there must be demand. I find it really tricky sharing a room with mine as they like a nightlight and I light darkness.

UndercoverCop · 05/06/2023 22:45

We've just got back from Rhodes and quite a few hotels offered either 2 bed suites or family rooms with a sliding partition and proper beds. We had a suite and it wasn't as expensive as you've been quoted but we booked last September for this May
