That's why you have to sneak them in

We pop our own popcorn at home and then take it to the cinema

bobsmum · 19/02/2008 16:37

I do, but then I rarely stump up for a cinema ticket now anyway.

I did know it was slightly underhand, but also really can't justify the prices in the cinema shops.

hifi · 19/02/2008 16:41

i take 2 of dds little flasks, fill one with white wine for me and one with red wine for dh, sometimes dds blanket from car as air con so vicious.

bobsmum · 19/02/2008 16:42

ooooh wine! Is that legal?? SOunds great though!

Kimi · 19/02/2008 16:44

Oh hell yes, when they want £8.00 for a coke and some day old popcorn.

A coat with BIG pockets it the answer

I have even been known to smuggle in a starbucks frappachino whipped cream and all.

HuwEdwards · 19/02/2008 16:45

Yes, no-one checks at ours.

lol @ hifi!

Karen999 · 19/02/2008 16:45

DP took DD to the cinema a few months ago and he was asked to leave his rucksack behind the desk!! He was soooo mad....needless to say he told them to 'bog off'.....went back to the car, took the sweets out and stuffed them in his pockets and went back in.....

JingleyJen · 19/02/2008 16:46

We take our own snacks and drink but that is usually bag of minstrels/malteasers and a bottle of sprite or bag of crisps. (cinema's for me a junk food frenzy!)

I always have my handbag with me what are they going to do, search my bag?

Kbear · 19/02/2008 16:49

big handbag is the answer - the sweets and drinks at the cinema cost more than the entrance fee - if they didn't rip us off we wouldn't sneak!!

talkingmongoose · 19/02/2008 16:49

Ive been known to take sandwiches...

however we hardly ever go now, It's close to £30 for five of us, and that's without buying anything.

I'd much rather wait and rent the DVD for a few quid, and watch curled up on the sofa with a glass of wine.

pagwatch · 19/02/2008 16:54

I take my own stuff and if questioned have details of my DS's allergies.
I actually have to take stuff in for him but choose to take my own in amyway because it is soooo expensive.
I take in my own sprite for him because he cannot cope with a huge amount and i resent paying full price for the smallest cup size which IMO is far too big for a childs drink.
I take the small mixer size can which is loads for him.
And sooo agree with Kbear. I would much much prefer to just turn up and buy the stuff there but the prices are just such a rip off that i resent it.

When me and Dh were callow teens, he used to be able to hide a can of Woodpecker and a can of Guiness down one sleeve of his leather jacket (with the wrist strap clinched tight) and a couple of kebabs down the other.....we were just so sophisticated

Blu · 19/02/2008 16:57

LOL at kebabs!

Kbear · 19/02/2008 16:58

This has reminded me... when we were kids my Nan used to take a trolley in the cinema packed to the gunnells with drinks, sandwiches, cornish pasties, crisps, sweets etc etc and bloody etc. Me and my cousins and all the kids in the street would take up the whole aisle and we'd pass stuff back and forth whilst glued to Star Wars!! Those were the days, my Nan was hilarious, she'd take loads of us kids out for the day and there was always enough sarnies!

Nice memory ..

Milliways · 19/02/2008 16:58

We have taken platic cups in filled with Asda Popcorn - and often give the kids sandwich bags with Asda 3 for £1 mixed sweets in.

I also always take a botle of water - got charged £2.50 for water the one time I forgot

Don't go often though - we have our own 128" drop down screen & surround sound system. Much more fun with friends at home.

Blu · 19/02/2008 16:59

The popcorn in cinemas is outrageous. It isn't even freshly made, it arrives in massive plastic sacks, is stored in bulk and added to the dispensers to get warmed up.

ravenAK · 19/02/2008 17:02

Enormous flask of vodka & OJ here. Dh had to practically carry me out after 'Snakes On A Plane'...

In the olden days when I was a naughty teen we used to drink bottles of Grolsch and smoke spliffs in the cinema (that was of course when smoking was ubiquitous)

themoon66 · 19/02/2008 17:15

A fruit shoot bottle is the perfect size for vodka. This also works in expensive nightclubs

expatinscotland · 19/02/2008 17:15

Hell yes!

I pop popcorn at home and bring it in, and other snacks and drinks.

Already getting ripped off by cinema tickets.

i agree it is more difficult for men cos they don't have handbags!

TBH, I've never been frisked at the cinema and take stuff in quite openly. Me and mates often take a four pack of lager cans. A ticket is £7 at our local odeon, which is expensive, but a few sweets and medium drink each added up to £15 last time me and DH went.

Madlentileater · 19/02/2008 17:28

we make our own popcorn and take it in- would never pay those prices AND the stuff they have I bet is loaded with sugar- can't stand the waythe whole place smells of it- no-ones ever challnged me, would quite relish it!
