Hello
We are thinking of doing a bit of a hiking weekend early June in the UK and wondered if anyone had any recommendations - Hoping for a nice walk 3-4 hrs per day with nice scenery a few pubs and a B&B
TIA

Cotswold way always makes for a nice one, lots of nice villages and pubs and hikes aren't too taxing

What about Anglesey? Holyhead mountain and Parys Mountain, plus the beautiful coastline.

Rainallnight · 19/05/2023 18:14

Lake District, around Keswick

Peak District. Lots of beautiful scenery. Pretty villages and small towns. All manner of walks from strolls to challenging hikes. Also well dressing season.

Peak District is amazing!

South Downs, New Forest…

Peak District is lovely, extra bonus for well dressing season.

Along the route of Hadrian's Wall, lots of interesting things to see and do.

Peak District

Hope, Hayfield and Edale all have good public transport links and pubs/cafes, We did Hope to Edale and back last year, was great,

Scottish Borders - Southern Upland Way, St Cuthbert's Way, Borders Abbey's Way, Pennine Way.

Northumberland - lots of lovely coastal walks, and the Cheviots.

Fife Coastal Path.

Coxspurplepippin · 20/05/2023 22:08

Yorkshire Dales or North York Moors.

Lake District is varied with good bus services. Stay around Grasmere and you have loads of options. Less busy than Windermere or Ambleside. Nearly everyone is hiking so infrastructure is there for B&B, self catering and pubs. Plenty of cafes and hearty meals available.

There are lots of sections of the Thames path where you can easily go between pubs with a pub for lunch in the middle as well if you want. Depends what kind of scenery you're after and whether you want challenging terrain or not. We took our kids so thames path was nice easy flat walking with (mostly) no difficulty finding the way.

There is a pub with glamping at Radcot (and probably elsewhere too) and pubs with rooms in loads of places. The sections either side of Henley are beautiful, and loads of places to stay in Henley. Windsor is a good stop off point too. We loved the walk through west London but it's a different kind of scenery so maybe not what you're looking for.

There is a multi day Peak District hike, with suggestions of where to stay and pubs for evening meals here: https://peakdistrictkids.co.uk/3-day-hike-edale-to-grindleford/. The accommodation here is YHA, but in villages, so sure there would be the potential for BnB options also.

I use this website a lot for Peak District hikes and it is excellent, and although it says kids in the title there is still a lot of challenge as the Peak District is far from flat.

Definitely leaning towards the Peak District - any recommendations for places to stay and pubs to visit most welcome

I picked DP up from Grindleford Station on Saturday. The Hope Valley line is worth considering for getting around. Castleton and Winnat's Pass are beautiful, as is Edale. There's a beautiful walk in White Peak near the Monsall trail which features stepping stones. Also round Kinder Scout.

PizzaPastaWine · 23/05/2023 09:52

Pembrokeshire Coastal Path - its spectacular.

gogohmm · 23/05/2023 09:52

Peak District 100% it is so lovely. I have booked a cottage several times, there's one by the canals through I think Derbyshire cottages? its called the wharf cottage or something and is handy and owners lovely, a bit old fashioned but there are loads of cottages to stay in, I have stayed in marmalade cottage in winster, the beds are heaven. You can walk all around and then end up at Cromford, pop into scarthins bookstore which has a cafe behind a revolving bookshelf! there's nice places to eat in Matlock, the Thai restaurant is amazing after a day hiking and biking... we also drove to the monsal trail, hired bikes and there's a big cafe with lovely food. I would also recommend Wirksworth and buxton which also has nice cafes and a cool bookstore... its just awesome there. Now I want to book. a holiday!

AnAngelAtMyTableWithMe · 23/05/2023 09:57

oops how could I forget our favourite, the Middleton top walk, or hire bikes, and you can walk for hours! we biked from there all the way around to the mosnal trail and back to Cromford- 50 miles! places to eat on the way too
