Flying business with BA for the first time (long haul) to Mexico later this year.

How far in advance would you suggest we reserve our seats? And do you recommend paying to reserve?

Yes is definitely flat beds. It’s impossible to know whether they will be available or not. If you can afford it you may as well pay…

Sorry! Just saw this. A pretty good chance I'd guess. You will be able to check in 24 hours in advance, so get in quick if you don't want to prebook. X

Update: had the best time in Mexico! Also, the flights were great.

Just managed to book BC flights with companion voucher to Maldives for next year! Called up at 23:45 as advised previously in Mumsnet and it worked great! Just need to book the return leg now 😅

Glad you had a good time and we’ve always had a good experience with BA and found their business class to be pretty good.

Can I ask, did it cost a lot and was it difficult to phone the US number? We usually pay but have some points we need to use relatively soon.

xelous · 27/11/2023 11:21

It's 90k points one way and £450 so 180k avios in total and £900 for two people with a companion voucher.

Easy to phone US number. Much quicker to get through than on UK number @YaWeeFurryBastard

Thanks and sorry I meant did it cost a lot in call charges to phone the US!

Sisterpita · 27/11/2023 13:48

I have had free seat choice in BC, but it maybe because I’ve paying full fare rather than using points etc.

It would have been because you either were travelling with an infant or had high loyalty status. We pay full price for business usually and seat selection definitely costs extra.

Sorry! I don't know is the honest answer. I will get my husband to check his bill but we'll have to do it again to book our return anyway so I hope not!

In this configuration, with the two window seats, you have to either climb over someone, or be climbed over to access the aisle.

Pro tip - row 7 is the only row to have a secret bulkhead access between the window seat and the aisle. Def book this row if you can, and the window seat is by far the more private of the two!

Also a bit surprised you’re being required to pay to book your seats, I regularly book with Avios/cash and various combinations and have never had to pay (I’m a silver card holder, so not exactly uber-status either!).

That's because Silver (and Gold) members don't have to pay for seat reservations.
