BA business class

Flying business with BA for the first time (long haul) to Mexico later this year.

How far in advance would you suggest we reserve our seats? And do you recommend paying to reserve?

Oh and 7ab are the best in my opinion- direct aisle access with no step over

SwedishDeathClearance · 31/05/2023 11:52

but you haven't shown the entire seat map

xelous · 31/05/2023 15:36

Great, thanks everyone x

I forgot to update this thread! I booked the seats a few months back and went for 12A&B. Thanks for all your help.

We fly in less than a month and can't wait!

Nice, where are you going in Mexico? Yucatan? Riviera Maya? It is gorgeous!

@PostAndGhost Mexico City and Tulum! So excited! Both different but look equally exciting. And lots of amazing places to eat

The best of two Mexicos! Modern and Maya! Pack a Maya/Aztec/Inca book to put you in the mood! Here is a list https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/41555.Aztec_Maya_Inca_Fiction I really enjoyed the Aztec by Jennings.
I am not into Yoga, but I had an amazing yoga session in Tulum, by the sea, near some historical remain, it was magic.

Have a wonderful trip!!

Sorry no help & hope you have a fab holiday.

Shocked that you have to pay to book seats in business class.

xelous · 17/10/2023 23:14

This is the configuration on the way back. Is this one of the new planes?

This seat/cabin layout looks old style and not the revamped new seats for business class. This means you won't have a door on the individual 'suites' and you won't have a bed, rather a foot stool. Someone plse correct me if I'm wrong. If these are the old style then personally I wouldn't pay for club world (business)

gowiththefloifonly · 17/10/2023 23:37

Both your outbound and return flight are the old style cabin/seats.

xelous · 18/10/2023 00:21

@gowiththefloifonly thanks - hopefully they will all be upgraded by next year!

Will the ones in the middle be double cabins that allow the two of you to have a shared bed?

OP posts:
Tailfeather · 18/10/2023 07:37

Yes, the middle ones will be like a double bed. I'd go for those as 2 aren't available by the window.

Tailfeather · 18/10/2023 07:38

Oh sorry! There are 2 by the window! I would take the window ones followed by the middle ones.

sekift · 18/10/2023 07:40

You have to pay to reserve seats on BA even when it's business class?! What a con!

Unless you have status yes, and yes it’s very annoying!

sekift · 18/10/2023 21:19

@gelatogina that's so rubbish, we are saving for business class flights to the US, assumed we wouldn't have to pay to book to reserve!

Tailfeather · 18/10/2023 22:53

You can pay to reserve your seats using avios. That's what we do.

sekift · 19/10/2023 07:56

@Tailfeather OP said that was 40,000 points though? That's almost a 3rd of the flights for us!

gowiththefloifonly · 19/10/2023 08:18

@sekift you don't have to pay to reserve, if you don't pay you will be allocated on check in at the airport. The benefits of paying to reserve :
you get to sit together
you can chose to sit at the front of the cabin to get served first and not risk the crew running out of your food and drink choices
You will be in a quieter part of the cabin

sekift · 19/10/2023 08:19

@gowiththefloifonly thank you, I have BA booked next year economy and we were just going to reserve seats at check in, but our business flight will be a special occasion so we will want to be sure we're sitting next to each other.

xelous · 19/10/2023 09:47

My preference would be 2 or 3 E&F.

How likely do you think we would be to get these seats without paying to book? I'm thinking not many people will want them as they are the middle seats...

They’re the old style seats but there absolutely is a full flat bed not just a footstool, are you thinking of premium economy? The old style seats are still worth it IMO.
