3 days of sun and see £1,200

This English weather is really getting me down; what keeps me going is a holiday every 6 weeks; however we didn’t book anything in half term as DD is doing GCSES. Next holiday is end of July so thinking of booking 4 nights holiday package with EasyJet beginning of June for DH birthday which comes to around £1,200 without food. I need the sun and the sea; cannot stop thinking of it.

will people do it? Assuming you have the money of course

Are there no exams after half term?

HappiDaze · 09/05/2023 13:31

GCSEs go on till mid June

Madcats · 09/05/2023 14:01

Have a look at DC's exam timetable. For example DD did an exam this morning and then has none for a week. The bulk of her exams are after Whitsun.

We've just come back from a trip to London (revision in the morning, then something nice for the rest of the day) and other friends legged it down to Cornwall.

Teenstripalone · 09/05/2023 14:51

Trip is only for DH and I. Children will stay with relative

Mmm sounds supportive

£1200 sounds expensive for 3 days but if you have got it and are used to your holidays every 6 weeks why not I suppose.

I wonder if you maybe not wait until GCSE’s are finished and look for something around then.

Swishhh · 11/05/2023 15:52

I do similar all the time if I have a bit of a gap between holidays. I’ve found 4 nights feels a lot longer than 3.

Swishhh · 11/05/2023 15:53

For 2 adults you could get a cheaper break in the sun.

redspottedmug · 11/05/2023 16:20

Personally I wouldn't leave an exam year child without a parent in the middle of exams.

redspottedmug · 11/05/2023 16:21

What exactly are you asking?

Doingmybest12 · 11/05/2023 16:23

I would spend the money of I had it , I wouldn't leave my child in the middle of exams

GiraffeLaSophie · 11/05/2023 16:32

I think it’s very unfair to go abroad on holiday while your daughter is in the middle of her exams.

Especially as it’s now May. I went for a walk wearing jeans and a t-shirt earlier, and wished I’d put shorts on, so I’m not sure your urge to see the sun can be that pressing…

Sunnycornwallanddevon · 11/05/2023 16:34

I can't quite get past you having/needing a holiday every six weeks!

FrownedUpon · 11/05/2023 16:36

No, I wouldn’t leave my DC in the middle of exams, just so I could have some Sun & Sea.

FrenchandSaunders · 11/05/2023 16:38

Every six weeks!!

Dontbelieveaword · 11/05/2023 16:41

What's the point of this post? You want a holiday, can afford a holiday, don't mind leaving your DC mid exams, so go on holiday. You don't need anyone's permission, do you?

mrsharrisgoestoparis · 11/05/2023 16:42

Can I ask how you can afford a holiday every 6 weeks???

Guineapigwoes · 11/05/2023 16:44

Stealth boast yawn

If you’re not taking the kids why go in the school hols?

Just thinking this! I love holidays, but the thought of all the packing/sorting/travelling every 6 weeks is exhausting, even if I had the money and was willing to spend it!

I assume it’s not 2 weeks off every 6 weeks, but going somewhere / a change of scenery every 6 weeks, including weekends away.

So far this year we have been away every month. In January it was a weekend away, February was 10 nights, March was 5 nights, April/May was 11 nights and we have a weekend away in late May.

I can’t imagine this is that uncommon, especially if you love travel and you’re in stressful jobs (as we are). Only going away once or twice a year would drive me insane!

So assuming your weekend away is 2 nights, you’ll have been away for 30 nights by the end of May?

It’s not really anything to do with loving travel or having stressful jobs. It’s having the money and annual leave to allow that 🙄

Dragonsandcats · 11/05/2023 17:07

How do you have enough holiday? And should you not be supporting your dc with revision, school, gcse stress?

31 nights including weekends and Bank holidays (Easter x2, May Day, Coronation, Spring) though. It’s pretty standard to go away around Bank holidays to maximise time away.

I will have used 13 days of annual leave by end of May. I get 27 days per year. Nothing crazy going on here.

Will people do it? - do what? Go on holiday every six weeks? Leave a child with someone else when they're sitting GCSEs? Start a pointless thread? What?.
