Long haul family of 5

Just musing really about a holiday destination for the 5 of us, possibly next April (Easter holidays). Will probably be the last of our family holidays as dc will be nearly 20, 18 and 12 - so far we have decided we want warmth, a bit of adventure and some relaxing days. Everyone else is up for spending a week somewhere and then travelling elsewhere for the second week (I envisage this to be in the same country just maybe a change of pace/scenery rather than changing countries!!), I’d prefer to just unpack and stay but happy to go with the flow.
So If you’ve had a far flung holiday with a mixture of ages, where did you go, would you recommend it and why/why not? We’ve really only done Europe altogether as a family together so really up for something a bit different. Budget of up to about 15K for flights and accommodation but excluding spending money.

Costa Rica - we went when DT’s were 15. Still talk about it being one of their best holidays.

tanstaafl · 12/04/2023 20:28

Might seem cheesy but Orlando?

KillerSandy · 12/04/2023 20:29

Singapore and Thailand?

Sausagerolex · 12/04/2023 20:30

California
Do some excitement in Vegas or San fransisco and then a week relaxing in Yosemite or Santa Monica.

ItsReallyOnlyMe · 12/04/2023 20:32

Thailand

CatsAddictedToDreamies · 12/04/2023 20:36

Oh lovely. Just posting to say envy envy envy.

TheChosenTwo · 12/04/2023 20:37

Should have said really America is off the list - dh can’t get a visa due to some very stupid decisions as a youth 🙄
but thanks for the suggestions, I’m going to have a little investigate and then hopefully come up with a short list. Littlest one is really quite keen on Japan, specifically Tokyo, but I’m not sure it ticks all our boxes and it may well be out of our price range!

We really liked Malaysia. Few days in KL to eat and stay in luxury hotel, then travel to see some jungle, then out to an island to snorkel/dive and sit on beach.

marcopront · 12/04/2023 20:41

Tanzania

Go on safari
Some of you climb Kili
Go to Zanzibar

regularbutpanickingabit · 12/04/2023 20:43

Another vote for Thailand. Fantastic time of year to be able to visit different areas and get city, history, beach, wildlife... amazing.

Newjobformoremoney · 12/04/2023 20:43

South Africa?

TheChosenTwo · 12/04/2023 20:45

My initial thoughts were Thailand, bil went with his family and quite young dd and they loved it, but not sure if it’s much easier with a very small one as they just do what you’re doing and can’t talk 😂
dh went years ago before we met and always said it would make a great family holiday.
Anywhere particularly family friendly? I’d like a place we could all stay in together like an apartment with multiple bedrooms and communal chilling out space rather than hotels with separate rooms - just easier all round.

@marcopront i think we’d all die if we attempted Kili 😂 can you just do part of it and then turn around and come back down?!

Muscat and Zanzibar

gogohmm · 12/04/2023 20:58

Argentina is on my must see list - flights are about £1300, Chile is also meant to be good.

Nitflux · 12/04/2023 21:00

Have you considered Vietnam? The cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are a lot of fun. From Hanoi you could visit Ha Long Bay (Tomorrow Never Dies was filmed there if you need some inspo!). It’s a group of stunning limestone islands. The food in Vietnam is so good and the people are lovely. Also super cheap for pretty much everything.

I think you probably could.
My daughter did a school trip where they went to the first hut and came back. (We live there and school does a lot of such trips)
There are also other smaller mountains.

The islands of Phuket and Koh Samui would possibly suit. So many types of accommodations, activities etc.

AppleKatie · 12/04/2023 21:42

I came to say costa rica but as so often on MN the first post nailed it.

Go to Costa Rica you won’t regret it.

Noneyerbuisness11234 · 12/04/2023 21:59

Mexico or even a Caribbean cruise

Zipps · 12/04/2023 22:44

Xcaret - Mexico
Caribbean cruise
Far East Cruise
Beaches - Turks and Caicos
New York and Orlando multi center

TheChosenTwo · 12/04/2023 22:57

Wow I’ve been stuck in a whirlwind these past couple of hours looking at holidays! I’m rubbish at looking for holidays so basically just flitted between different hotel websites 😂
do travel agents still exist?

Must say the idea of a cruise has never appealed to me, dd1 and I both get rather seasick and also just the general cruisey vibes! Never say never but not something that instantly grabs me. Something to do with itineraries makes it feel like a school trip and having to be somewhere at a designated time and place and there being so many rules just puts me off somewhat.

I would do two Caribbean islands!

One for 5 days where you can do lots of excursions and adventure-y stuff and then 9 days of relaxing/a mix!

RockGirl · 13/04/2023 01:07

Malaysia would fit your bill. It's an amazing country with lots of different aspects to it.
