Ryan Air baggage allowance

I've not flown with Ryan Air for a long time and now realise you cant take the usual cabin bag without paying extra.

Has anyone travelled with just the smaller bag 40 x 20 x 25 and could you squeeze in enough for 3 nights away?

Only ever fly with the value fare. I use a regatta backpack which fits the dimensions and can fit a weeks worth of clothes and a pair of sandals. I take a small handbag too but usually get something to eat from Pret or Boots at the airport (to get a bag) and put handbag in that

Yes

I’m wondering if the people saying it’s easy actually realise how small the bag you are allowed to take free is now, not sure when it changed but I didn’t realise it had changed till my mum and brother went in December, my mums bag thst fit the dimensions was tiny, no way could have fit thr stuff people are saying they’ve fit into hand luggage.

We fly to stockholm on a fairly regular basis, we just use the free hand luggage. My adhd brain means I make a packing list so I don’t forget anything. Last time I took a pair of jeans, shirt, two t-shirts, 4 pants, 4 socks, diabetes kit, epi-pen, mini shampoo/conditioner, face cream and suncream, switch, kindle and a powerbank.

userxx · 04/02/2023 11:02

Brilliant, I'm feeling much more confident now. I'm hoping the weather will be warmish so light clothes should be fine.

Yes you deffo can squeeze enough in dH and i I recently went to Venice for a week with only they size bag each and managed, still looked stylish too!!

Yes allowable size is small. We had to look carefully for one within the limits. Even her standard fjallraven that she used for school was too big 😳

I've used my Kanken bag quite a few times on Ryanair without any problems?

But I wouldn't even try to only use the free small bag. I absolutely do not have the ability to pack light!

LadyEloise1 · 04/02/2023 11:07

Any recommendation for a brand of small roller suitcase one can take as a cabin bag on Ryanair please ?
I know Penneys ( Primark in Ireland ) does a really light small suitcase. €40
I wonder is that an acceptable size?
I hate booking flights cos of luggage restrictions. It's a minefield.

Cremeeggeater · 04/02/2023 11:09

I made it way easier by using a couple very thin bags inside my main bag so that I could really push the stuff down to make the ackage as hard as a rock and and so that if I needed to get something out like my book or toiletries before flight not everything flew out. Also wear your biggest things on the plane (obvious I know) in my bag I had my makeup, book, jeans, dress, pants, socks, tights, tiny bum bag, about 4 tops and a hat and ballet flats, I wore long denim skirt, top, jumper, coat and boots so I had plenty of outfits.

Helenloveslee4eva · 04/02/2023 11:13

Pay the 2 bags and priority boarding. It’s not a huge cost and makes it easy to go for as long as you like.
NB RA are also trying to play games with duty free / bought in airport stuff by saying “ no extra bags “ must all go in your allowance at some airports.

I think some posters in here are confused between the carry on case size and the “ permitted for all hand bag “ size - that is very tiny.

In the tiny Ryan air single permitted bag ? Impressive

Check the size carefully.
we have IT. Suitcases they are perfect and hold loads. If you can get the ones with 2 wheels and a wide handle that’s the best - the 4 wheels / narrow handle sort means the handle takes up space on the middle of the bag.

LawksaMercyMissus · 04/02/2023 11:17

I only take hand luggage, I just wear loads of layers....think Joey wearing all Chandler's clothes !

Cremeeggeater · 04/02/2023 11:18

Yes! I measured it about 10x before going on as it was just within the measurements but they didn't actually check either of our bags on the way there or back, probably because they did look tiny. We were regretting our decision to not get an over head bag when we booked initially as the price jumped up to £40 for one each way! But it was fine and prevented me from buying useless tourist trap tat lol

WithIcePlease · 04/02/2023 11:18

@forgettingtoremember
It measured as too big in one dimension - not by much - but we are v careful with budget providers and DD didn't want to have any hassle or end up paying more.

With ridiculously small Ryan air hand luggage?

I know! its half the size of what cabin allowance used to be. Im flying ryan air in march and i have ordered a bag for their measurements... its utterly tiny. Im booking a hold bag as there are 3 of us for a week. When we went to france years ago we had one small wheely suitcase each and that was enough.

bellinisurge · 04/02/2023 11:23

Not a problem at all. Look up Travel Tips by Laurie on YouTube. Loads of youtube channels cover carry on only packing. I personally find hers the best. She has done "personal item only" packing - which is the scenario you are talking about.

bellinisurge · 04/02/2023 11:28

Compression packing cubes and sensible outfit planning. Wear your heaviest stuff travelling. Definitely doable for 3 days. We are doing it for a birthday trip to Dublin in October

MaverickGooseGoose · 04/02/2023 11:30

I've seen people on tik tok take the stuffing out of a neck pillow and rolling clothes in there.

The free bag on RA is tiny, I couldn't do it for three nights.

Backstreets · 04/02/2023 11:32

I'm a handluggage evangelist! Read this for inspiration: www.rookiemag.com/2012/05/a-handy-guide-to-power-packing/

feelingrubbish2023 · 04/02/2023 11:33

Yes do it all the time for 3-4 night city breaks. We each just take a small rucksack and find it works ok. You sit have to think carefully about what you will wear on each day. We just use hotel toiletries bar toothpaste and moisturiser.

Lbnc2021 · 04/02/2023 11:33

I travel to Belgium a lot and can fit enough toiletries and clothes into the value fare bag allowance to last 3 or 4 days. I’ve even bought clothes out there and still fitted them in. I got the bag from Amazon.

Not that difficult...

Ryan Air baggage allowance
KnottyKnitting · 04/02/2023 11:43

Absolutely can take enough stuff for 3 days with the small carry on bag. Just things like wearing your jumper/ cardigan and not bothering with an extra pair of shoes etc. I have a way of packing where
I make my clothes up into a little parcel and it takes up much less space.

honeypancake · 04/02/2023 11:51

3-4 days is doable of course. A week, less so, especially if there won't be a washing machine in your destination place. I saw quite large backpacks on Ryanair, it has been a long time anyone gets asked to fit in their backpack into a measure box at the gate, so yes, you can take a biggish backpack. Plus a small cross body bag, no one says anything. It gets heavy if you need to add an extra pair of shoes (what if it rains etc), or a laptop
