We are trying to plan a holiday and we are going around in circles and going bleary eyed! Any opinions on any of the destinations below? Thank you!

Majorca:
Porto colom
Paguera
Sa Coma
Puerto pollensa
Cala Ratjada

Menorca:
Santo Tomas
Arenal d'en Castell
Cala n'Bosch

Both lovely islands. We always holidayed in Santo Tomas when I was a child and I have wonderful memories of the beautiful beach. Cuitadella is a magical town too. If you want somewhere for a family holiday then Minorca is perfect

However as an adult, Mallorca has so much more to often. Much of the island away from the big resorts has stunning scenery. The drive along the north coast past Deia is superb. Palma is like a smaller Barcelona with so much to explore. Pollensa is really pretty if quite bustling.

We visited puerto pollensa last year with an 18 month old. It was lovely, highly recommend it. Nice beaches right in the town, plenty of restaurants. What specifically are you looking for?

Mamaemmeline · 12/01/2023 17:53

That is a very key piece of information I forgot to put in! We have two young children and whilst it would be nice for there to bits things going on we don't want a 'lively' resort.

Puerto Pollensa seems ideal but I really wanted a hotel with some sort of kids water slides but there don't seem to be any.

We did both last summer - flew to Mallorca and back from Menorca with a 3(?) hour ferry between. Very different feel to each island and there were lots of families on the ferry doing the same.

The only place we visited that we didn’t like was Cala n'Bosch. Do a walk around it on Google Maps and see whether it’s your style…

KangarooKenny · 12/01/2023 18:02

For little ones I prefer Menorca

Winterwonderland4 · 12/01/2023 18:09

Paguera and Cala Ratjada cater mainly for the German market. You might find your kids have no other English speakers in any kids club etc. In saying that both are lovely resorts. I went to Porto Colom for the day and didn’t rate it.
Sa coma has a lovely beach and nice coastal walks/bike rides to Cala Millor and Cala Bona. There’s a zoo. I might be inclined to look at the family complexes in Cala Bona too
Puerto Pollenca is gorgeous, lovely restaurants etc quite upmarket.

Menorca is much more low key, can’t comment on the other resorts but Cala n Bosch was much more developed than most. We enjoyed the restaurants round the marina and the beach. I would go back

Winterwonderland4 · 12/01/2023 18:13

Protur Bonaire in Cala Bona has slides etc

MyOldCaravan · 12/01/2023 18:17

I went to Arenal d'en Castell in Menorca a few months back. It was slightly out of season (October) but was still lovely and warm, and the sea was stunning. The water there is fantastic for little ones, as it's a bay within a larger bay, so very still, clear water.

There were probably about 10 restaurants there, all very family-friendly as well as a couple of all-inclusives I think. There were buses to various places, but we were too happy to stay in the resort to go anywhere. I'd highly recommend it.

TheNinny · 12/01/2023 20:37

Playa mar hotel in porta pollensa Majorca has kid slides etc. Went last summer and was perfect first holiday for DD age 2 at the time.

this summer we are planning Cala n Bosch. Not far from beach and hotel looks good for young kids.

Lochroy · 12/01/2023 20:47

Sa Coma has a gorgeous beach and is very family friendly. As pp said, it's also very easy to cycle or get the road train into Cala Millor and Cala Bona.

The only hotel I know of with slides is the Bouganvillla but it's a fair way inland, although it has a shuttle down to the beach.

Screwedupworld · 12/01/2023 20:48

Done both. Preferred menorica for little ones. Booked Cala Bosch for July this year.

AMistakePlusKeleven · 12/01/2023 20:49

We have booked Santos Tomas for this year. We’ve got a quiet hotel with slides and a kids club a stones throw from the beach. Quiet was our main goal, we’re not ‘towels at Dawn’ people!

zurala · 12/01/2023 20:53

I love Punta Prima on Menorca. We always hired a car so we could visit the Zoo etc though the buses are excellent. My kids had so much fun there when little. The beach has Rock pools as well as loads of sand. We've done Menorca three times and there's so much to do but it's small so nothing takes long to get to.

trying29 · 12/01/2023 20:57

We did Cala d’or for two years with our 2 young kids. Was perfect

aintitfun · 12/01/2023 20:57

I’ve been to Arenal d'en Castell in Menorca - very pretty and beautiful beach but it was very quiet, not too many shops or restaurants and was very quiet in the evening so depends what you like I definitely prefer a bit of livelihood

broomers · 12/01/2023 20:57

We stayed at Marins Playa in Majorca, it's in cala millor, great huge beach that's very clean and calm water. The town has a lovely promenade the has sculptures and lots of well manicured trees along it. We went back twice with young toddlers. It's a good mix of having plenty of restaurants close to the beach but not lots of brits abroad types.

Cala D’or in majorca is amazing and the beach is ideal for young children.

I have stayed in Mallorca and Menorca and both are stunningly beautiful.

Menorca is less touristy (vibrant) and less mosquitoes (I was quite badly bitten in Mallorca) and so would probably recommend this island for you.

Glorieta · 12/01/2023 21:08

Another one for cala d'or
Very family friendly

Good shops and restaurants
And a wee tourist train that goes round the town

Can recommend this hotel which has apartments as well

DILLIGAFQUEEN · 12/01/2023 21:09

Both lovely islands, I've been to playa de muro in Majorca which was quiet but our children were really small then and we staying in a large all inc for families so didn't need much resort, it was a short bus ride to Alcudia though which is busier.
Arsenal de castell has a beautiful and family friendly beach , if I remember rightly a play park with trampolines in a bar overlooking the beach, a few restaurants, not much nightlife but we loved it and was only 20 mins from airport.

JammiDodgers · 12/01/2023 21:10

We’re back in Majorca May/ July and August this year . Love it there 💕

purplesofachair · 12/01/2023 21:11

I went on a girls weekend in May to Port de Pollensa and stayed at Hopasa Hotel and Apartments VillaConcha. I have a 1 and 3 year old and want to return with the family. The complex has a kids playground and kids pool with slides. Would absolutely recommend

TheFairyCaravan · 12/01/2023 21:13

Menorca every time.

Santo Tomas beach is beautiful. My favourite beach on the island is Cala Galdana.

Emjay91 · 12/01/2023 22:22

We went to Sa Coma in the summer with our little boy. It was one of the protur hotels and there was loads at the actual hotels for them (including a water park and separate splash park as well as kids pools) and the actual area was nice and very family orientated - some bars but not overly loud. Lovely beach nearby and a little road train ride to other areas which we did.

Would you mind sharing the name of the hotel? This sounds like exactly what we're after! Smile
