Las Vegas with a 8 month old

Would you do it?! It's for my partners 30th birthday. We don't want to leave our 8 month old at home but if we have to we have to. We were thinking 4 nights... we wouldn't go out mad drinking or casinos etc .. is it worth it?

No way . My husband and I were doing a world trip with our 18month old and stayed in vegas . It’s horrible. Not for children . Totally tacky . Full of prostitution, even during the day . My husband , whilst pushing the pushchair , was being offered call cards for prostitutes ! Stay clear

HunkieDorie · 09/01/2023 00:14

Thanks @Ydkiml !

No way. You can't take the baby anywhere so what's the point.

Mumblechum0 · 09/01/2023 00:17

Can’t think of anywhere less appropriate with a baby in tow!

Highlyflavouredgravy · 09/01/2023 00:18

No because you won't be able to do anything! We took an 18 year old and weren't even allowed to stand still for a minute walking through the casinos.
The hotel pools are made for sitting in with a beer. The heat is incredible.
It is so seedy- full of prostitution, and people doing literally anything for money- we saw a guy with s sign saying punch me for a dollar.
Dead eyed women in bikinis dancing on bars .
It is the last place i would take a child.

RandomCatGenerator · 09/01/2023 00:19

I wouldn’t. It is very, very hot and there isn’t much for little kids to do. It’s also really expensive - I wouldn’t want to be paying a lot for eg food that a weaning 8 month old might reject or throw around.

Deathbyfluffy · 09/01/2023 00:20

I wouldn’t - plus taking an 8 month old on a flight that long will be tedious!

Aquamarine1029 · 09/01/2023 00:21

You'd have to be insane to take a baby to Vegas. FYI, there are far better places to go than Las Vegas.

boxingdayisbest · 09/01/2023 00:26

I love Vegas. Went twice Pre kids.

It would be a waste of money as you literally can't do most of the main things there are to do if you have a baby with you.

Don't do it!

jay55 · 09/01/2023 01:26

I love vegas too but there is still smoking indoors. While the newer casinos are well ventilated, you still get a lot of second hand smoke (and it's cigars as well as cigs and outside it's weed too).

HunkieDorie · 09/01/2023 06:44

Thank you so much everyone, not sure where I read it may have been 'acceptable' for kids. God knows what I was thinking. Never been so not sure what to expect.

It’s horrible, trashy , rank. I wouldn’t go back if someone paid me to stay in the pent house at the bellagio.

sizeofahippo · 09/01/2023 07:18

Clearly controversial but we took our kids a few years ago. They were 3 and 16 months at the time and we piggybacked onto my husbands work conference. We didn't go for the nightlife and gambling and there was plenty to keep them entertained just looking at all the hotels.
We went to the hotel pools, most were family friendly, went to the aquarium. Walked through Caesar's palace and similar hotels, looked at all the lights.
It was fine and the seedy side didn't even register with the kids.

bumbledeedum · 09/01/2023 07:23

I love vegas in small doses but absolutely no point with kids, literally nothing you can do & no where to go

MaverickSnoopy · 09/01/2023 07:26

I have definitely seen posts before where people have taken children to Vegas, but older children. These posts have said what they have done with the children - lots of activities. I guess some people can make it a success. I went with my family when I was 21 and my sister was 15. She wasn't allowed in any of the casinos, only to walk through very quickly. We spent most of our time shopping and going out for meals, but we only went for the weekend. We also saw a show. We went with family friends so people took it in turns to look after my sister. She still had a great time.

DH and I went again about 10 years ago. It was a completely different dynamic. We didn't adjust to the time different and stayed on UK time enjoying the nights and sleeping more in the day, but that depends on what you're going for.

I wouldn't take a baby, no. I think it will really stop you from enjoying yourselves and taking Vegas in. If you want to go to casinos then you won't get to unless you take it in turns and go alone.

BarrelOfOtters · 09/01/2023 07:27

I'm not the biggest vegas fan, buy yes, you could take a baby there, I saw babies there. But there’s an awful lot of stuff you couldn’t do with a baby in tow. Most of it is sruff I don’t want to do…

bonebroth · 09/01/2023 07:27

No, also be aware that smoking is allowed in all the hotels and casinos (that I was in anyway, there might be some smoke free ones?) so you can’t even walk up to your room without walking through clouds of cigarette smoke.

I was on a non smoking floor and my room still stank. No way would I take kids to vegas.

Soproudoflionesses · 09/01/2023 07:28

I love Vegas but have put going on hold until dd is old enough to stay home alone - you can't even stop to turn a shoelace up when waking through a casino - they will be on you to move if you have a child with you.

BarrelOfOtters · 09/01/2023 07:30

We took a 15, 18 and 20 year old…and they had a good time and enjoy telling people they went to Vegas, but the all want to go back when they can drink. We did desert tours, Jeep stuff, the hoover dam, the UFO museum. Gawped at hotels, went to a couple of shows and had a good time for 3 days. But they found it seedy too.

LizziesTwin · 09/01/2023 07:35

The jet lag for an 8 month old would be awful & ruin the holiday - the baby would be all over the place.

BluIsTheColour · 09/01/2023 07:52

No just forget the idea and go somewhere closer even without the baby.

I've been before and it took me days to get over the jet lag. When we finally got to the hotel room it was 22hrs of travelling from when we left the house. That was with less than 3hrs between connecting flights. We kept waking up early and then cldnt stay out past 10pm for the first couple of nights. Luckily we were there for 8 nights so didn't make a huge difference.

However it's also not a place to take a baby, you won't be allowed in bars or casinos etc. it's an adults playground certainly no place for a baby. I've been many places and I think this is the least baby friendly place I've been to!

user8912 · 09/01/2023 08:01

No why on Earth would you. Delay a few months and go without baby.

UnaVaca · 09/01/2023 08:04

😁

PritiPatelsMaker · 09/01/2023 08:06

What time of year are you thinking of going? It gets very, very hot in the Summer.

And what type of holiday are you wanting in Vegas with an 8 month old? I should imagine that most of the things that would attract you to a holiday there will be near impossible with a baby in tow.

bert3400 · 09/01/2023 08:06

We just got back from Vegas ( December)
I wouldn't take a baby , it's really hard to navigate the strip with a buggy, loads of escalators, a ton of pedestrians to get past, the stench of weed was something else, quite a few people who are suffering mental health issues. Then if you go to the casino hotels, the cigarette smoke was very bad. I just don't see what you would get out of it. Don't get me wrong , I loved it, our 3rd visit but I wouldn't take a baby. It is also incredibly expensive - even a cheap meal you are looking at $50/100 for 2 people.
