Vegas hotel recommendations

Recommendations wanted for hotels in Vegas.

It will be a trip for a few nights (ladies’ holiday) and I have been told I ought to stay in the middle part of the strip (as we are only there for 3 nights). Would prefer the lower end of these but happy to pay a little more for a nicer hotel.

Thanks

The following have come up (cheapest are first)

Luxor
Sahara
Virgin Hotels Las Vegas - Curio Collection by Hilton

Excalibur
Flamingo
Linq
Golden nugget
New York
Park MGM
Cromwell
Mandalay
Planet Hollywood

We stayed at the Monte Carlo, which is now....Park MGM. Excellent location.

apart from that, from your list, I've only seen rooms at the Mandalay and Luxor. Would choose Mandalay. I could barely find my way round the main floor at the Excalibur but that's probably me.

if I had the budget, I'd go Bellagio!

random thing that seems to surprise people - lots of little art galleries on the strip, lovely to visit.

chipsandpeas · 27/12/2022 19:23

the linq to me is in a perfect spot pretty much the middle of the strip

luxor is too far out but there is a mini rail that links it to the excalibur and mandalay bay

Dadznet · 27/12/2022 19:24

Book in when you get there. Massive discounts on unsold rooms and no shows. We got a Villa at Ceaser's Palace for half Price. Taxi drivers all know the best and latest deals.

mrsbyers · 27/12/2022 19:24

Mandalay is too far south
the cheap ones are cheap for a reason

From your list I’d say Park is best location or MGM but for a first visit I would recommend Aria - it’s usually mid priced and has some lovely restaurants

we have stayed all over on girls trip Cosmo was our favourite til it went so expensive , last trip we stayed at Palazzo and that was great

thelionthewitchtheaudacityofTHISbitch · 27/12/2022 19:25

By co-incidence I was clearing out old photos today and have just binned those from our US holiday in the late 1990s - which included a stay at the Luxor. It was absolutely rubbish (and the food - dont even go there). We were given a full voucher to stay again. Funnily enough never used. I dont normally hold a grudge - and certainly not for near 25 years - but I would always choose different. I loved (re)seeing the pictures of the Grand Canyon so shall be watching this thread with interest to see what the current top hotel tips are. I would like to revisit that area.

Iv been vegas many times. In order of best to worst (although NONE are bad that of stayed at)

Aria
Mirage
Hilton Elara
MGM Grand
Treasure Island
Luxor

Treasure island fantastic location but really Smokey casino.
Aria best by far.

EmmaAgain22 · 27/12/2022 19:34

Mandalay also has the monorail - free.

VegasAnon · 27/12/2022 19:40

Thanks for these tips! Keep them coming! Everyone I have spoken to recommends Aria and Cosmo!

Low end mid strip - linq. I stayed there when it was the Imperial palace and location wise it's good.

Flamingo is nearby so also pretty central.

If you're only there for 3 nights, think realistically how much time you'll be in your room and is it really worth paying more? Remember resort fees will usually be added on top as well.

bibbif · 27/12/2022 19:44

Cosmopolitan is the best

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 27/12/2022 19:45

I've been there many times. At least 25.

Do not even consider mandalay, luxor or excalibur.

Flamingo is pleasant and historic in a great Strip location. Golden Nugget is fun downtown.

Paris is OK. Bellagio is nice.

Those are about the only ones I'd ever stay at.

What are you looking for from the trip? Pool time? Nightlife? Exploring? Gambling?

TheBigApple · 27/12/2022 19:52

Another vote for the Cosmopolitan here. Its in the centre of the Strip and you can get amazing views of the Bellagio fountains from the rooms with balconies. I appreciate its not cheap but well worth the extra if you can stretch.

RoseBucket · 27/12/2022 19:52

We stayed in the Luxor a few years ago mainly for two reasons, I wanted to see how the elevators worked, I’m a bit geeky and my daughter at the time was obsessed with the Titanic.

It was ok, def 3 star, the rooms were smoky though and didn’t feel particularly clean, good location for the Vegas sign if you wanted to visit it but I probably wouldn’t stay again, it was a quick stop over for the Grand Canon before we went on to other places.

EmmaAgain22 · 27/12/2022 19:55

You know what OP?

it's Vegas! It'll be brilliant wherever you stay!

VegasAnon · 27/12/2022 20:45

Thanks for the tips. Okay so forgetting about the list, what are the recommendations of favourite hotels?

It’s just me and a friend and we are probably looking for the Vegas experience so casinos, getting dressed up, cocktails by the pool.

I will be 40 and she is early 30s if that makes a difference. Not looking for hardcore partying but more kitsch fun with drinking and dancing.

Thanks. What are resort fees?

I have heard from someone you don’t need to really pay for drinks by the pool as ladies drink free and drinks are free at the casinos in the hotel. Is that right?

PenguinLove1 · 27/12/2022 20:55

Hotels charge you around $50 dollars a night resort fees when you get there so factor that in to your budgeting.

Definitely stay midstrip - anything from mgm up to venetian really is ok, anything else is far to walk. Some of the cheaper
Hotels feel a bit grotty after visiting the nice ones, i think its worth paying for a nicer hotel if possible.

Dont count on free drinks all the time and they can be dear in the hotels, but it is possible to get some. Its an open carry state so you can gran a cheap cocktail on the strip as you wander about, saves paying the big prices by the pool.

Girls get given Free tickets to the clubs quite often.

Follow TravelRuby on you tube and watch everything she has - I planned my trip around her advice and it was fab - not cheap though thats for sure

Tequilamockinbird · 27/12/2022 21:19

From your list I'd go with linq or flamingo for mid strip. Cosmopolitan is fabulous and if your budget can stretch that far then id definitely recommend there.

Golden nugget is downtown on Fremont street and if you haven't been to Vegas before you'll probably want to spend most of your time on the strip. This would mean taxis or buses back and forth.

Virgin hotels is also off strip. You could walk it during the day, but I wouldn't recommend it walking it at night, not the nicest areas off strip.

Mandalay Bay is south strip and while it does have a free tram, that only goes as far as Excalibur. You'd then need to walk through NYNY and Park MGM to get on another tram up to Bellagio (mid-strip). The strip is huge and you'll walk for miles anyway!

We've stayed in most of the strip hotels now (have been to Vegas a lot Xmas Grin). My favourite top end hotel is Cosmopolitan, for mid-budget I really like NYNY and for lower budget, I like Luxor.

Tequilamockinbird · 27/12/2022 21:21

Should also add, we got back last week for the first time since 2019, and prices have definitely increased. You get free drinks in the casino if you're gambling. Just remember to tip the waitresses.

The ÂŁ to $ rate at the minute makes everything even more expensive unfortunately. There are some cheaper places and happy hours etc though which can help keep costs down.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 28/12/2022 01:01

No, ladies don't drink free.

Poolside drinks are not free.

If you are actively gambling you will get free basic drinks like beer, wine, G&T.

I would not stay further south than Bellagio.

20viona · 28/12/2022 09:51

Ladies definitely do not drink for free and poolside drinks are super expensive but to me it's all part of the vegas experience.

In the casino when gambling drinks are 'free' but you must tip and tip well first time to guarantee the cocktail waitress comes your way again. Chocolate martini at the Wynn and lemon drop martini at the Cosmo are top tier casino drinks IMO.

It really is the greatest place on earth.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 28/12/2022 11:47

Not the LINQ - its an utter dump of a hotel inside. You may not be in the room for long but you want a room that is both nice and quiet all the same.

Mandalay Bay is a good hotel but its a long way south on the Strip.

Resort fees, so beloved of many hotels and not just in Vegas, are set to be outlawed completely in the US by President Biden.

Would recommend somewhere like the Cosmopolitan or Aria.

Re your comment:
I have heard from someone you don’t need to really pay for drinks by the pool as ladies drink free and drinks are free at the casinos in the hotel. Is that right?
No, you've been misinformed. Nothing there is free!.

Swallowsflyround · 28/12/2022 11:58

We've always stayed in non Casino hotels ( though appreciate you may not want to) and visited hotels with casinos.

Loved Elara location- attached to the Miracle mile mall so loads of easy food options. Also had a nice pool scene. Also liked the Signature towers - you can use the mgm pool - now that is a lot of fun! Though location not as good as Elara.

WelshNerd · 28/12/2022 13:44

Omg, Joe Biden is set to become my fav president is he bans resort fees

Tequilamockinbird · 28/12/2022 13:53

@ZeldaWillTellYourFortune you can get any drink you want for free while gambling. Cocktails, champagne, coffee, bottles, you can even specify brands ie grey goose, Tito's, Stella, Budweiser etc.

We got back last week and had some amazing free cocktails in the casinos.
