Vegas hotel recommendations

Recommendations wanted for hotels in Vegas.

It will be a trip for a few nights (ladies’ holiday) and I have been told I ought to stay in the middle part of the strip (as we are only there for 3 nights). Would prefer the lower end of these but happy to pay a little more for a nicer hotel.

Thanks

The following have come up (cheapest are first)

Luxor
Sahara
Virgin Hotels Las Vegas - Curio Collection by Hilton

Excalibur
Flamingo
Linq
Golden nugget
New York
Park MGM
Cromwell
Mandalay
Planet Hollywood

From your list Park is really nice but rooms are on the small side for vegas(they're perfectly fine rooms). Planet Hollywood has good sized rooms and lots of reasonably priced eating places, and is excellently located. Similarly Linq, not as nice as PH but central, and lots going on. Flamingo is looking tired, Cromwell is lovely but tiny.

Avoid excalibur, Mandalay is way too far south and Sahara too far north.
Golden nugget is downtown, nice but not for a first visit.
Luxor I stayed in once and it wasn't as bad as expected, and it is kind of fun to take the lifts that go sideways. It wouldn't be my first (or 5th choice) though.

But if you can afford a fountain view room at Cosmo then totally go for it as it's a fab hotel with a great vibe and amazing views. But it is so expensive these days and you can still enjoy the

@ZeldaWillTellYourFortune you can get any drink you want for free while gambling. Cocktails, champagne, coffee, bottles, you can even specify brands ie grey goose, Tito's, Stella, Budweiser etc.

We got back last week and had some amazing free cocktails in the casinos.

I've been there at least 25 times & always felt it rather crass and grabby to request the complicated drinks, and it's much harder on the servers. Hoping everyone is tipping very well.

Itstarts · 28/12/2022 14:01

Are the drinks really free if you have to tip generously to get them? 🤔

Dartmoorcheffy · 28/12/2022 14:04

I loved the luxor. Rooms were fabulous for the price and the buffet was amazing.

Namechangenye2021 · 28/12/2022 14:10

Luxor is too far down although when I stayed I found the rooms to be fine and they were large. You can’t appreciate the sheer size of the hotels until you see them which is why people are encouraging the middle of the strip.

I stayed at Treasure Island in May on a girls trip as it came up cheap and it was great for our needs and so well placed.

I’ve also stayed at the Wynn which is gorgeous but not worth the money if on your girls trip you’ll be out and about all the time anyway.

re the free drinks - don’t rely on them unless you’re doing some serious gambling. My sister and I waited so long for our beers we gave up and left. And in the past my rum and coke has been very watered down. Im the type of gambler who spends about $30 all in though for a bit of fun.
Plus remember you need to tip well so not really free.

Well, one tips the server whether or not the drinks are free. Jesus.

Larger tips do produce faster/more attentive service.

Tequilamockinbird · 28/12/2022 14:46

We generally tip $5 for 2 drinks. To buy the drinks would cost $30-$40 easily.

We do tend to only gamble early morning or early evening though (thanks jet lag!) so the waitresses aren't that busy.

Thanks for all the messages. Aria and Cosmo are coming out on top! I’m away for one of the bank holidays in May and it is looking like it will cost £1250 ish (total) for 3 nights for those hotels. Then flights are around £680 per person. So per person around £1300 ish.

Does that seem fair or is this a case of being stung by the current exchange rate?

Aria and Cosmo are much nicer than Treasure Island but here’s my costs to give you a comparison.
May 2022 (not bank hol) 5 nights - triple person room
$920 hotel
$221 resort fee

$1141 total ($228.20 per night) so $76 each per night.

Cant compare flights as did a longer trip so our flights there were internal. Hopefully that might help with some comparison though.

When you see the Aria and Cosmo you will definitely see they’re a class above hotels like Luxor, New York New York, Treasure Island etc though.

We've stayed at Bellagio, Paris & Mandalay.

Bellagio was fantastic and I was worried Mandalay would be too far south but you just jump on the free monorail and you're in the thick of it really quickly, we would usually monorail one way and wander the other.

gogohmm · 29/12/2022 09:43

Stayed at Excalibur, it was shabby 20 years ago. Don't consider it unless it's had a full refurb!

Getabloominmoveon · 29/12/2022 09:51

Have a look at British Airways holiday package including hotels such as the Aria. Can be a good deal

Bunchymcbunchface · 29/12/2022 12:51

If you’re going to stay in a MGM hotel use the MyVEGAS app to collect points and get free rooms.
I only play for free and don’t buy anything. I’ve only been playing since October and already I’m over 200k bonus points.

download all the games, log in daily
set auto spin and key it play itself - I do mine while I’m in the bath.

I'm going to Vegas at the end of March and staying in the Jockey Club beside the Cosmopolitan, think it's owned by it. It's my first time and the Jockey Club was recommended to me by a couple of people.

We're only staying 2 nights before heading to San Diego and beyond so location was important to get the most out of our whistle stop trip.

DanseAvecLesLoups · 31/12/2022 14:18

Personally I found the strip and many of the hotels on it utterly soulless. I find Vegas old town way more interesting, hotels are cheaper and just as nice, bars and restaurants are just as good, casinos have better odds and I preferred the old school charm of the croupiers and the people you end up sat next too. You can still grab a cheap cab ride to check out the strip.

ExcaliburBaby · 01/01/2023 17:10

i went with a friend for my 40th a couple of years ago and we stayed at the Wynn and absolutely loved it! Gorgeous room, fantastic pool for lying beside sipping cocktails and people watching. Plus stunning lobby areas etc. We walked to the near by shopping mall and also the Venetian. I’d love to go back!

TangerineDreaming · 02/01/2023 11:41

I hated The Cosmopolitan. It was like constantly being in a dark noisy nightclub. I found it oppressive and stressful and confusing.

But obviously lots of people love the clubby vibe.

I found Aria a bit bland and souless.

I loved the kitsch of Caesars Palace and the rooms at the Palazzo.

I loved the luxurious feel of The Wynn.

But wherever Vegas is just full on fun.

CornishGem1975 · 02/01/2023 16:08

I stayed in a Fountain Room at the Bellagio and it was fab. Great central location and the music from the fountains played in the room. Not a gambler so didn't do any of that but spent a lot of time at the pool (as it was 40 degrees) and frozen cocktails in huge cups you could keep were around $35.

Agree, i like the old downtown for ambiance and history.

Hotels charge you around $50 dollars a night resort fees when you get there so factor that in to your budgeting.

Definitely stay midstrip - anything from mgm up to venetian really is ok, anything else is far to walk. Some of the cheaper
Hotels feel a bit grotty after visiting the nice ones, i think its worth paying for a nicer hotel if possible.

Dont count on free drinks all the time and they can be dear in the hotels, but it is possible to get some. Its an open carry state so you can gran a cheap cocktail on the strip as you wander about, saves paying the big prices by the pool.

Girls get given Free tickets to the clubs quite often.

Follow TravelRuby on you tube and watch everything she has - I planned my trip around her advice and it was fab - not cheap though thats for sure

Thanks for the tip to follow TravelRuby, she has some great tips.

Cosmopolitan all day long

Kualma · 03/02/2023 21:23

Stayed at the Bellagio and loved it!

Cosmopolitan all day long

Was same for us but the price for our room Queen Queen terrace has doubled in last few years , we have booked for Venetian this year , have stayed in Palazzo twice including last year but most of the restaurants etc are in Venetian so giving that a try this time. Costs for that are ÂŁ1300 less for the two of us which is a big chunk of spending money

TomAllenWife · 04/02/2023 16:31

I loved new York New York
The rooms were dated as are most US tourist hotels
But there was so much to do
And just over the bridge to MGM
