Has anyone filled one out recently? I am having problems with

  1. the size of the photo. it states that the photo should be 45mm by 35mm. Would this be the physical photo or does it include edging?
  1. At the end f the form parent or guardian is asked to sign in box and state relationship to the applicant. There is no line to write relationship, does it go in box. also state s that it must be kept within the border??????

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you've had proper photos done (rather that doing them yourself) they'll be the right size

as far as I knoiw the box is for signature only, that's why it all has to stay in the box.

no idea where you right the relationship to applicant. I can't remember.

lucy5 · 31/01/2008 22:07

thanks, Ive had proper photos done but measure too big if you include the edging.

fingerwoman · 31/01/2008 22:12

ahh well i'd cut the edging off then

Frizbe · 31/01/2008 22:14

if you take it into postoffice for them to check before you send, they'll cut it to right size for you (mine did anyway!) and make sure it fits in their 'frame' if its out they won't accept it.

seeker · 31/01/2008 22:15

and make sure your signature doesn't go outside the box - not even by a millimetre. Mine was sent back because or an overenthusiastically curly C. You could barely see the overlap, but back it came. You can get the people in the post office to check the forms for you for a couple of quid - money well spent.

Take a picture of your baby/child by lying them down on the floor on top of a white sheet.

With a digital camera, take the right shot. The child should not be smiling, grimacing, etc. Get the whole head in, and a part of the neck.

Go to a website called PictureLizard (google), and send the digi-photo to them.

For £1.50, they will send you six, perfectly sized, passport photos the very next day.

Thanks all. I am in Spain so unfortunately can't go to the post office. I am sure I shouldn't have written Mother under my signature in the box but there was nowhere designated to write it. I think i'll print them out again.

This is for a UK passport, is it? I'm a bit confused cos I'm sat here looking at DD's application form, and section 9, the declaration, has at the bottom 'Name, if signing on behalf of a child', followed by 'Relationship to child'.

Also got photo guidance here - the actual photograph should be 35mm x 45mm, the subject's head needs to be between 29mm and 34mm high within that space. The PictureLizard guidance Desiderata refers to covers the rest of it re backgrounds, angles, glasses, hats etc.

I used the Paspic website when I recently applied for my DS's passport. I took a photo of him against a white background, uploaded it to the website, they approved it within a minute so I ordered it there and then and 4 passport size photos came in the post the next day. Brilliant and hassle free, would definitely recommend. oh, cost £3.50

DontCallMeBaby · 31/01/2008 22:33

Official photo guidance here

hi yes its for a uk passport issued through the British consulate in Madrid. On my form, it just says signature of parent with a little box and the underneath in brackets relationship to the child but no indication as to where to put it.

Thanks for that link I think my photos are ok.

Has anyone got any ideas about the last bit of the declaration, signature and relationship and where it fits?

Thanks, Madrid is notoriously picky and I really don't want the passports to come back as I need them asap. The guidance notes are absolutely rubbish!

I had to re-do ds's form a couple of weeks ago because my signature was outside the line.

My first attempt was rejected by the post office checker with about 20 crosses over it - it was definitely a E-! But once they had approved the form, the passport arrived in less than a week.

miljee · 01/02/2008 10:26

how much does the UK post office checking service cost?

lucy5 · 01/02/2008 10:36

I don't know because I am in Spain, not much I wouldn't think.

Kbear · 01/02/2008 10:37

I just sent ours off. I think the photos from booths are designed to be the correct size.

You sign in the box and write relationship in the box below, no?

Kbear · 01/02/2008 10:38

post office checking service costs £7 per passport.

lucy5 · 01/02/2008 10:43

I don't know, i'm so blooming confused!

OP posts:
wheelybug · 01/02/2008 10:58

The 'normal' form you get in the UK does have a box for relationship so assume your form is different to the norm. I think you can find the standard one on line (Not much use to you I suspect if you need to send it through madrid)

Shitemum · 01/02/2008 11:04

lucy5 - that was me you all helped the other day. Still havent got round to printing out the forms, they are a nightmare to fill in aren't they? I printed them out a couple of years ago but couldn't understand the instructions, so gave up [shame]. And the embassy in Madrid NEVER answer the phone, you'd think they could have a help line for filling in the forms...
Do your DCs already have Spanish passports? Will they have to give them up? Am confused.

lucy5 · 01/02/2008 11:07

No they don't have Spanish as both dh and I are English and therefore they are classed as English, even though ds born here.

I don't know why they have to be so complicated if they are so picky as to the answers. I wish the designer would try filling one out. I have so many queries that I can't get any answers too.
