I flew to Spain 3 weeks ago and you needed to show you were fully vaccinated (including booster) or show a negative test. A Spanish colleague flying back into Spain last week who had had Covid so no booster as yet had to go and get a test.
They did check absolutely everyone at the airport- my daughter's QR code wouldn't scan so they had me open up the details of the actual vaccine certificate to show them she'd had 3 doses. Iirc this is for everyone over the age of 12 (but I may be wrong there)
My colleague did say something about change being due to be announced imminently so best to check the Spanish govt website. You also needed to wear an ffp2 on the flight out, and on public transport (though surgical I think was OK) the flight attendants were quite scathing to the people who hadn't realised.

You need to show proof of vaccination or take an LFT or PCR test before travel or have proof of covid infection in the last 6 months

dementedpixie · 03/09/2022 18:35

We didn't need to wear masks on the flights we took to lanzarote in June. It was Jet2 we flew with. We needed masks to go into the pharmacy or other medical settings and if you used public transport while there

You need to fill a long online form with the “ministerio de salud” and show proof of the vaccines before flying. Once you fill the online form you will get issued a QR code. I came back from Spain yesterday.

You dont need to fill in the form if you're fully vaccinated

I had to, otherwise I would not get my QR codes. The online form is what issues you the codes.

Travellers from the UK who can either show proof of being fully vaccinated, or of having recovered from prior COVID-19 infection in the last 6 months, or who are aged under 12 years old, do not need to complete Spain’s Travel Health Control form. Everyone else must complete Spain’s Travel Health Control form no more than 48 hours before travel to Spain. See Spain’s Ministry of Health travel pages for more detail.

I was asked for my QR code when I landed in Spain.

The qr code is on your vaccine certificate

tellyiscrap · 03/09/2022 18:41

I was told to have proof of vaccination etc , printed it all out , had it ready and phone in case lost papers lol wasn't asked for any of it once

Ivyruin · 03/09/2022 18:41

I went to Canaries 3 weeks ago and never got asked for anything. Neither did my 12 year old. We had them ready to show them and they didn't bother.

That’s a different QR code, it’s an NHS one.

dementedpixie · 03/09/2022 18:42

They were stopping random people when we went to Lanzarote in June. We had to show our proof of vaccine

Geamhradh · 03/09/2022 18:45

I had the same as @dementedpixie , the Spanish gov website is very clear. You don't need their locator form if you've had the booster.
It looks as if different areas of Spain maybe apply the guidelines differently, or different airlines, but every person on my BA flight was stopped and checked in Madrid. There was a line of HCPs waiting for us behind passport control. We'd also been told on the flight to get everything ready.

Maybe the rules have recently changed but I was asked by British airways to fill the Spanish online form on the 6th august and when I landed in madrid everyone needed to have the QR code scanned. Maybe rules got relaxed very recently or Canary Islands rules are relaxed? Dunno.

The BA website is still showing (and auto generating) an email telling you to do that irrespective of Vax status, I think they just haven't updated their own website. I was very confused and so asked Spanish friends to double check for me.

Delatron · 03/09/2022 18:52

Trying to get my head round this for Lanzarote in October. 13 year old was double vaccinated by January. However this expires in 270 days? So will run out by then. Adults boosted and boosters don’t run out. Are we looking at an expensive PCR for a double vaccinated 13 year old? Because he hasn’t had a booster that hasn’t been offered? And I won’t give him quite frankly.

So frustrating they won’t drop these rules. Travelling to France recently was a breeze and Iceland. I’ve not had this faff for over a year!

Delatron · 03/09/2022 18:53

Maybe I read it wrong and they continue to be fully vaccinated after the 270 days if they are 12-18..

Delatron · 03/09/2022 18:55

Any rumblings on whether they’ll drop these rules soon since most other countries have? I have an unvaccinated 12 year old and could do without the PCR/antigen test stress.

I hear your frustration, but Spain is the only country in the EU still holding covid rules to fly into the country. Masks in public transport, clinics and pharmacies are mandatory still. I got kicked out of a pharmacy for not wearing a mask last week. Spain is still quite strict. I only had the two vaccines by the way, no third booster so got issued the code very easily.

No, you haven't read it wrong. Most countries have offered the booster to teenagers and below and it's only the booster with (currently) no expiry as there is no (yet) widespread roll out of a 4th dose.
It doesn't have to be a PCR. My colleague got an LFT. It just has to be officially verified. Think he paid about £7 for that.

Sandra1984 · 03/09/2022 18:57

I’m a Spaniard by the way. I live in the UK.

GrandSlamFinalee · 03/09/2022 19:05

I’m Spanish, have been flying in and out several times throughout the pandemic.

The SpTH form is NOT required if you’re fully vaccinated. It’s stated clearly on the travel site and the health ministry as well. I don’t know why the PP is saying otherwise. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve flown in without them asking for it.

They do check everyone sometimes, but there are two queues. One orange, one blue (signposted on the floor at Madrid Airport for example). One is for fully vaccinated travellers and young children who can just walk through with their NHS or EU Cert. The other one is for passengers who had to fill in the SpTH form (so people without booster, or who’ve taken a test or are presenting a recovery certificate).

If you go to the wrong queue they might obviously ask for the ‘wrong’ documents - it doesn’t mean you need them, it just means you went to the wrong queue.

Sandra1984 · 03/09/2022 19:11

I don’t recall two lines in Madrid. I just remember all passengers walking through the same section full of masked staff dressed in a white overall with a scanning gun pointing at everyone’s QR code. Unless I missed something .
