Going to Greece in August and need recommendations for good SPF50 sun lotion or spray for 10 and 13 year old who go in and out the water a lot. Thank you.

Interested too.i expect my ds to constantly be in and out of the pool on our upcoming holiday and don't want to be constantly reapplying lotion

MarbleGolden · 12/08/2022 12:56

P20!!!!!!

parrotonmyshoulder · 12/08/2022 12:58

Ambre solaire clear sprays are brilliant for our red headed family

CMOTDibbler · 12/08/2022 13:01

p20. You have to put it on clean skin and then flap around inside drying it for 10 minutes before dressing, but it will genuinely then last all day

SILdidittoo · 12/08/2022 13:02

P20, easily absorbed and doesn't need constant reapplying.

We are just back from Egypt with my 13 and 10yo and used Nivea kids extra waterproof. It was really good. We also all took rash guards which were a god send.

Workyticket · 12/08/2022 13:08

We took Nivea Factor 50

Ds wears a rash vest - there were a lot of burnt children without them 😫

Cluckycluck · 12/08/2022 13:36

Any suncream that is made to Australian standards. An Australian suncream has to keep to the stated SPF during water exposure so SPF 50 water resistant for 80 minutes must remain at SPF 50 for the full duration. A European suncream can lose up to 50% of the stated SPF, so SPF 50 water resistant for 80 minutes may actually only be giving you the protection of SPF 25.

whalleyt · 12/08/2022 13:43

i like Calypso

ludders01 · 12/08/2022 20:53

Thanks for all the suggestions. Mine usually wear rash vests but they feel like they’re a bit old for them now however I think they’re great!

Cluckycluck any brand suggestions?

whalleyt I’ve used Calpsyo all day long and in the water it seems to wears off pretty quickly.

I wear a rash vest at 40. Maybe get them a surfer style animal one and team with board shorts so they're a bit more edgy.

whalleyt · 12/08/2022 21:14

@ludders01 mine only paddle so maybe that's why I've not noticed.

TwoProngedFork · 12/08/2022 22:17

We use mustela

Cluckycluck · 13/08/2022 01:16

@ludders01 I usually go for Sunsense or La Roche Posay.

Sunsense
La Roche Posay
Bondi Sands
Ultra Violette

There are lots of brands that are sold here and in Australia that I don't know if the ones sold here are the same formulation. I've never looked further into it as I'm happy with Sunsense and La Roche Posay

Banana Boat
Hawaiian Tropic
Nivea

If it is marketed as a once a day SPF then it definitely isn't Australian tested as they are banned in Australia. Same with anything advertised as being over SPF 50. SPF 50+ is the highest allowed in Australia.

Obviously there are lots more brands that are Australian tested but I've only bothered with the ones that are readily available here.

Remmy123 · 13/08/2022 06:25

In turkey - no rash vest all day as they refuse.. apply factor 50 Nivea in the morning then at lunch.

no burnt skin.

i used to go crazy and constantly reapply but haven't this holiday and it's been fine

they have been in pool all day

ludders01 · 13/08/2022 21:56

@Cluckycluck i like La roche Posay also for my face usually and the Violeta is supposed to be nice but just never tried using any of those brands on children in and out the water. Thanks for the info as I wasn’t aware of this.

ludders01 · 13/08/2022 22:03

@Remmy123 which factor 50 Nivea did you use please? Was it the kids lotion or spray, which do you find easier? Or just normal “adults” Nivea 50? Thanks

OP posts:
Remmy123 · 13/08/2022 22:05

It's the kids lotion (not spray) x

ludders01 · 13/08/2022 22:10

@Stichintimesavesstapling this sounds like a good idea. They’ve always had nice plain ones from Next that were brilliant. I think they see other children without them and think it’s way cooler to not have one on but those children are usually not fair skinned!!

OP posts:
abovedecknotbelow · 13/08/2022 22:11

Just back from holiday and all the kids were in rash vests (some of the older ones in football shorts), dds had fab swimming costumes with sleeves which doesn't help your ds's but I'd highly recommend to anyone with dds. Got them in next.

I have to wear a rash vest as I get PLE, I still sunscreen underneath it.

ludders01 · 13/08/2022 22:12

@parrotonmyshoulder thank you, good to know.

OP posts:
ludders01 · 13/08/2022 22:14

@MrsBungle think we defo need to get back to wearing the rash vests! Thanks for the info.

OP posts:
ludders01 · 13/08/2022 22:18

@abovedecknotbelow thanks for this. We usually go to crete and there aren’t many English children and therefore most of the children don’t wear rash vests. I usually buy their rash vests from next. I’ll take a look at the costumes.

Boots soltan, the beige bottle with blue lid.

None of us have sensitive skin so no idea how it is if that's relevant to you. But (seems to) last as described, hours in the pool without getting red.

But like you said ...rash vests.
