Going to Greece in August and need recommendations for good SPF50 sun lotion or spray for 10 and 13 year old who go in and out the water a lot. Thank you.

@Workyticket think Nivea looks like a good choice. Thank you.

P20!!!!!!

Amen! 🙏

I've just come home from a week in Devon and i used Factor 50 on my 10 year old son.
He's brown as a berry, but no hint of sunburn.

When he's swimming, i re-apply it every 3-4 hours.

ludders01 · 13/08/2022 22:27

@SILdidittoo @CMOTDibbler @MarbleGolden do you worry that you’ve missed a bit when applying P20? I used to use this and asked a friend to put some on my back once and she missed a bit!! Ouch!! Do you genuinely only apply once even after they’ve been in and out the pool constantly?

@Ameanstreakamilewide good to know you reapplied your P20 as was interested to know from the other posters. I always worry you’ll miss a spot as it’s clear, well it was when I used it years ago!

@CMOTDibbler @SILdidittoo @MarbleGolden have just looked into the P20 kids and it’s a white lotion, that looks good/better. I used the adult version years ago and it was clear!

I’ve been really impressed by Aldi sunscreen this summer. Very water resistant! No burnt DC here who happily spend all day in the sea.

Get them pool tshirts, no sunscreen is properly waterproof and will wash off in the pool. They should still apply it in between times in the pool. Big kids (and adults) aren't at less risk of burning and worse than little kids

KangarooKenny · 14/08/2022 07:41

The Boots kids one.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 14/08/2022 07:48

We're in Greece now and kids are quite fair-skinned. Using P20 cream and spray version (both factor 50) - vastly prefer the cream. Less greasy, absorbed more quickly, doesn't run between your fingers when applying it.

We were using it twice daily but actually, have found once daily is enough, even in pool all day. They are wearing rash vests though, as shoulders/back of neck get so much more exposure than elsewhere.

The lotion-y one is white, so it shows up clearly on the skin.

The spray version i used, is clear, but pretty oily, so you can easily see if you've missed a bit.

I swear by it now...I won't buy anything else sun cream-wise.
I just hope to god it never gets discontinued. 😬

We use Ultrasun and have used it for years.
Comes in a range of factors and is waterproof and lasts all day. Only need to reapply after swimming if you do some vigorous towel, drying.

We prefer it to P20, which we used a fair bit in the past as it's a bit easier to get hold of.

We've used Ultrasun for years and all over the world, in some very hot and humid countries with no issue and no burning to any of us.

Suzi888 · 14/08/2022 09:21

I love Solait wet skin lotion 30spf. We just returned from abroad and DD was in the sun and pool all day. Also Nivea protect and play 50spf.

P20 etc- apply once formulas don’t last all day there have been numerous studies on this. Plus it’s sweat resistance meaning heat rash is more likely.

MsMiaWallace · 14/08/2022 09:25

Went to Greece in July. We used Asda's kids sun lotion. It was banana scented & a strawberry scented one.
Kids are 7,10 & 2.
Didn't burn once & lovely moisturising.

ludders01 · 14/08/2022 11:01

@MsMiaWallace thank you. I’m making notes of all these! Good to know.

@Suzi888 thank you. Interesting about the P20. Didn’t think about sweat resistant meaning heat rash - good point. The Nivea seems very popular so far.

@Abraxan thank you. My sister suggested Ultrasun so good to see someone suggesting it. Is there a particular one you can recommend? Just read the SPF50 extreme is thick and quite hard to rub in, have you used that one?

@smileandsing I think you’re right about the tshirts. If they don’t want rash vests I’ll just get them to wear tshirts in the pool. Thank you.

@Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr thanks for this. The P20 lotion does seem quite popular. Think also cover up tshirts or rash vests are the way forward!

Just back from Turkey and took the Lidl f50 kids spray and would really recommend it.

This is correct. Once a day/long last formulas don't last anywhere near as long as the claim.

In Australia once a day SPF is actually banned because they don't last as long and because it makes people lazy with reapplying. You only need to miss a small area to end up with a severe burn if in the sun all day.

I feel I should point out I'm not Australian just incredibly sensitive to the sun.

YetDespiteTheLookOnMyFace · 14/08/2022 11:58

My pale, freckly child had Superdrug/Tesco/Asda applied in the morning and after lunch on our 35 degree holiday. Not a patch of burn all week. Factor 50 sensitive.

fruitpastille · 14/08/2022 12:00

We used the Aldi dupe of p20 and it was great. I did use factor 50 cream (also aldi) on faces though as it seemed nicer and doesn't sting eyes. I also reapply after lunch and we avoided the pool in the hottest part of the afternoon. My teens quite like rash vests and shorts as they are quite body conscious.

Beecham · 14/08/2022 12:03

Mine are similar age, used Nivea Sun Kids 5-in-1 factor 50+

3 weeks in the sun and nobody got burnt despite multiple swims

Two wore rash vest, one refused - she has a tan on her back now, but no redness
