Jet2 cabin baggage baby changing bag

lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 08:17

Hoping someone can help me, I've looked online but can't seem to find the answer to this.

I'm flying with Jet2 next week and will have a baby with me who I need a changing bag for. Will this bag count as my hand luggage? Or can I take it separately for the baby?

Thanks

You dont get a baggage allowance for a baby under age 2. Could you put your stuff in the changing bag and pack your other bag in your suitcase for using once you're on holiday.

CallmeAngelina · 06/08/2022 08:23

Not Jet2 but on American Airlines it doesn't count as your hand luggage. You can have a changing bag per child (under a certain age I suppose).
That's probably not I have help as it's a different airline but it might show a precedent for what is considered reasonable.

Russell19 · 06/08/2022 08:24

Just put nappies and wipes in a normal bag with other stuff?

Jemimapuddleduk · 06/08/2022 08:25

We’ve just flown with jet2 yesterday. I had hand luggage, handbag and a changing bag for ds (7) who is autistic and in continence products. Just say it’s the child’s/baby’s hand luggage if asked.

lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 08:26

The changing bag will have milk, bottles, snacks and a baby ready meal etc for her (it's a 5 hour flight). And some medicines etc. So it's more than just a few nappies, hence why I need an extra bag. Can I take the changing bag on as extra and just pay for it at the airport?

Couple of nappies, pack of wipes, 1 spare outfit, surely thats all you need, pop it in your hand luggage bag, you on't need a whole separate bag. Abd also you aant to minimize the exrra stuff you have to carry when flying with a baby

Mindymomo · 06/08/2022 08:27

It will count as your one piece of hand luggage, but it is a good 10kg weight allowance on Jet2, just make sure it no bigger than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm.

lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 08:27

@Jemimapuddleduk

That gives me hope, thank you.

Did no one try to stop you taking the extra bag or charge you for it?

Plus milk, snacks, drinks and a meal for her. It's too much for my handbag.

It will count as your hand baggage. Just take the biggest bag they allow (holdall/small wheel on) and put the changing bag and you own bag in that. What you do with it on board is up to you but as long as there's only one bag as you get on within the size and weight limit you are fine.

Hoppinggreen · 06/08/2022 08:28

I think if the child is under 2 with no luggage or hand luggage allowance.
When mine were small I took a changing bag with everything in I needed including my own things

exnewwifeproblems · 06/08/2022 08:29

Can you not just buy milk snacks and a baby meal once you're through security?

This. Your bag plus babies bag put together in another bag. Doesn't need to be a big or fancy bag - a large carrier bag with both bags in it to carry through check in any the gate is fine. Then fold up the carrier and pop it in your bag while I'm airport, on plane etc

lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 08:31

The problem I have is that I'm needing to take a small carry on case of my own with my own clothes in it. It doesn't leave much space for changing stuff. It's also a small suitcase so if she needed anything like snacks or nappies I'd have to keep getting the small case down and opening it. Much easier with her normal changing bag - I know where everything is as it's already packed with all I need etc.

Yes could do, hadn't thought of that.
Just like to be prepared!

There's usually a boots or similar once you're through the gate.

exnewwifeproblems · 06/08/2022 08:32

Not gate. Security.

CatSeany · 06/08/2022 08:33

I was allowed to bring a handbag in addition to my small carry on suitcase so I put a nappy and wipes (enough for one change) and a snack/drink in my handbag for easy access and the rest in the suitcase. I had a load of snacks, toys, drinks etc enough for my 8 month old and toddler and there was loads of space. I think as long as any extra bag fits under the seat in front you're ok.

lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 08:33

@HappyAsASandboy

Do you mean put baby's stuff plus the empty changing bag inside my own carry on case, then once through security unpack the baby items out of my case and back into the changing bag? This is a good idea but I'm wondering if as we board the plane they might say "why do you have an extra bag"? 🙈

OP posts:
Cornettoninja · 06/08/2022 08:35

I’ve never done it but I’m sure you can order from boots to collect once you’re through to the other side. Worth checking out.

HappyAsASandboy · 06/08/2022 08:36

@lancsgirl85 no! That'd be a right faff!

I mean take a large carrier bag with you to the airport, folded in your handbag.

When it come to the check in desk or the gate desk or anywhere when anyone might be counting your bags, put the whole changing bag and the whole handbag into the large carrier bag, just as they are. Then you have one bag (that's also a bit squashy to mould into the size limits!).

No and we’ve been doing this for years. We do Spain in august, lanzarote in October via jet2 and no one has ever questioned it.
only thing that was ever questioned was bottles with milk cartons once he was over 2 but I had paediatrician letters and they were fine at security once I showed that. Remember that if it is prescribed medicine you need a copy of the prescription to get through security checks.

Ylvamoon · 06/08/2022 08:38

You can't take enough milk though security anyway. So you need to get it at the airport.

Just take a decent size backpack/ handbag for everything.

I found that people are very helpful/ friendly when travelling with babies. Also check out airport facilities for babies/ children. Ther should be somewhere with a microwave for sterilising bottles...

Whataretheodds · 06/08/2022 08:39

Contact jet2 to ask. Don't wait to pay at the airport.

Why are you only taking a handbag as hand luggage? When i travel with DD, even before actually, i take a backpack, you could easily fit everything for you and DD in there
