Jet2 cabin baggage baby changing bag

lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 08:17

Hoping someone can help me, I've looked online but can't seem to find the answer to this.

I'm flying with Jet2 next week and will have a baby with me who I need a changing bag for. Will this bag count as my hand luggage? Or can I take it separately for the baby?

Thanks

Security don't care about how many items you have. It's the staff at the gate that might be counting them. So buying milk and snacks after security won't solve your problem.

My recommendation - you have your cabin suitcase, handbag, and are allowed an extra item of duty free purchases. Buy a 10p carrier bag at boots / WHS / duty free world. Put baby's changing bag in said carrier bag. They have to allow you to take it through.

I take multiple times a month and more often than not I am boarding with 3 items - suitcase, backpack, duty free bag. Nobody opens the latter to see whether it's a bottle of vodka or the three pairs of shoes I couldn't fit in my suitcase.

Or even better, fold the handbag and put it in a big rucksack that can be used as your second item of hand luggage. One of those should fit all your stuff + baby's bag's contents.

TUI allow you to take a changing bag for baby in addition to your own bag. I can never manage that many bags though so go without a bag for myself (DP has his bag, bag of food we get from Boots to eat onboard and carries the baby) I have a young child, Trunki, changing bag and the pushchair!

Have you asked them?

COL1N · 06/08/2022 08:45

You can take an extra bag for the baby & you can take ready to drink milk on, Ive done this multiple times with Jet2 & its fine!

Contact jet2 to ask. Don't wait to pay at the airport.

I tired to get through to them yesterday, was on hold for ages! Hence asking here.

@Youcancallmeirrelevant

Sorry I'm not being clear.

I'm taking (as it currently stands):

  • a hand luggage sized suitcase containing my own clothes
  • baby changing bag
  • my own small handbag

I'm struggling to fit the stuff from the baby changing bag into either my hand luggage case or my handbag.

Yes i'm now thinking I will swap my hand luggage suitcase for a hold-all type bag. It will fit everything plus the baby changing in the side zip pockets and will be much easier to access any of DD's stuff I might need during the flight from the side pockets, instead of opening a full case up.

Just need to measure the hold-all and make sure it fits the dimensions!

If you buy it after security and keep it in the branded carrier they give you you're allowed to take it on as an extra bag at every airport I've ever been through in the uk.

In the past we’ve preordered with boots to pick up past security!

imnottoofussed · 06/08/2022 08:54

Contact them on WhatsApp as they do eventually get back to you. Just make it clear to them you are taking a small cabin case already. Your handbag will need to go in the small case as they definitely won't let you have a case and a handbag.

Combine baby's bag + your small handbag. You're not maximising the allowance by having lots of small items.

Keep the suitcase (stuff it to the brim). Then take a larger backpack that can contain everything else. Don't measure it - as long as it squishes down a bit, you'll be fine.

This is incorrect. I wish people weren't giving false information to the OP who is clearly already worried enough about making this work.

These are the current Jet2 rules about hand luggage. You're allowed a cabin suitcase AND a personal item.

lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 08:59

@GrandSlamFinalee

So essentially, take the suitcase as hand luggage with clothes in, get rid of my small handbag, and instead of that take baby's changing bag as my "hand bag/ personal item"? Is that what you mean?

OP posts:
lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 09:02

What size does the personal item / hand bag have to be? Are there size limits for it does anyone know?

Baby's changing bag is a rucksack style backpack/ shoulder bag. Will that pass as my own "handbag"?

This is the exact changing bag I have

I meant getting a bigger item (if you have a suitable rucksack for example) that can hold the contents of BOTH your handbag and your baby's changing bag.

Failing that, buy a 10p carrier bag. Put one of your bags in it. Problem solved.

Yes this will pass.

dementedpixie · 06/08/2022 09:05

I didn't have a baby but when we went abroad I packed my handbag in my suitcase for use while away and used a backpack to carry all my stuff on the plane instead. Same could work for you.

lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 09:58

@GrandSlamFinalee

Thank you. I've condensed my handbag and the changing bag contents so I'm now taking a small suitcase that fits the hand luggage dimensions plus baby changing bag as my own personal item. Hopefully this works!

imnottoofussed · 06/08/2022 15:54

Sorry didn't mean to give wrong information Blush yes as long as that grey bag fits under the seat in front of you then I'm sure you'll be fine.

I've actually recently been on jet2 and the space under the seats is quite big unless you are in the aisle seat I noticed those seemed to have a narrower space underneath.

Pandamama88 · 19/06/2023 21:55

Where do you change a baby's bum on a plane?

dementedpixie · 19/06/2023 21:59

There's a changing table in the toilets. It's very compact!

MarleneH · 15/08/2023 00:49

Hi we travel with jet 2 in a few days - can I ask if they allowed you to take it onboard as well as your hand luggage? I am in the same position.
and for those saying nappies and wipes is all you need, you’ve obviously never travelled with kids!

lancsgirl85 · 06/08/2022 08:27

@Jemimapuddleduk

That gives me hope, thank you.

Did no one try to stop you taking the extra bag or charge you for it?

A 7 year old is different to a baby as the 7 year old has there own seat and therefore own hand luggage.
