European city breaks

Tirednortherner · 29/07/2022 23:32

Hello,

I’m looking for inspiration for European city breaks. I’ve done many but sure there’s some out there. I’d be happy to cluster two or three together.

I’ve already done / am doing soon (and don’t want to do again - want new places):
The UK - to death
Dublin
Paris
Barcelona
Berlin
Prague

Budapest
Amsterdam
leiden
Lisbon
Copenhagen
Malmo
Brussels
Rome
Florence
naples
lourdes
Krakow

All suggestions welcome, shorter the flight from the UK the better x

Thanks

Anyone who has been to Dubrovnik, would it be good for October?

Mushroo · 30/07/2022 10:16

Bordeaux (if you like wine)
Thessaloniki
Munich or Berlin
copenhagen

TheOGCCL · 30/07/2022 10:23

Nice
Vienna
Zurich
Venice
Rotterdam and The Hague
Bordeaux
Marseille

Nuremberg

@NCTDN we were in Dubrovnik in April and a tour guide told us April and October were the best times to go because there were fewer tourists, especially from the cruise ships. I highly recommend, it was fabulous.

xalo · 30/07/2022 10:30

Another vote for Valencia

NCTDN · 30/07/2022 10:33

Thanks @IrisMac
Is 3 nights enough?

MissAmbrosia · 30/07/2022 10:46

Nice
Seville
Granada
Wroclaw in Poland
Bratislava
Zadar in Croatia
Utrecht
Strasbourg - equally good for Xmas markets - is surprisingly lovely.
Annecy
Montpellier

Another vote for Valencia, I prefered it to Barcelona.

If you don’t care about blazing sun a two centre break of Bilbao and San Sebastián is fab. If it was guaranteed sun I’d go to San Sebastián over and over.

Cadiz is on my list as a to do

Pointblank2 · 30/07/2022 11:49

Another vote for Zadar too, I preferred it there over Dubrovnik

Porto is lovely. We went on Boxing Day a few years ago. It was lovely and sunny during the day, but colder at night time.
Nice, not too far, easy access to the city from the airport. Decent weather during the day in the winter.

Riga.
The Art Nouveau architecture is stunning.

Svalberg · 30/07/2022 12:42

Split
Zagreb
Dubrovnik if you're into GOT tat...

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 30/07/2022 12:59

Ljubljana
Sarajevo
almeria

BarrelOfOtters2 · 30/07/2022 13:04

I loved Zagreb and Ljubljana but friends went and found them a bit run down and not enough to do. Brussels and Luxembourg also good for a weekend.

superram · 30/07/2022 13:07

Stockholm, Lyon, Valencia, Seville, Munich.

Earlymenopausesucks · 30/07/2022 13:07

Bruges and Ghent can be done together - based in one and short train ride.

Malaga is stunning- good food, history, culture, beach, port and shops.

TheDogsMother · 30/07/2022 13:08

Cadiz and Jerez

Timeandtune · 30/07/2022 13:09

Another vote for Lyon and also Alicante ( the actual town).

TheDogsMother · 30/07/2022 13:10

TheDogsMother · 30/07/2022 13:08

Cadiz and Jerez

If you fly to Seville you can make it a three city break. All within easy reach of each other.

stormsurfer · 30/07/2022 13:11

Salzburg
Vienna
Venice
Stockholm
Bergen
Oslo
Dubrovnik
Athens
Helsinki

TomAllenWife · 30/07/2022 13:12

Athens is my favourite city break

Closely followed by Istanbul

Battista · 30/07/2022 13:14

For Xmas markets you could fly into Innsbruck, stay a night or two - there are fab markets there - then take the train directly south into northern Italy. Gorgeous tiny xmas market in the little town of Sterzing or a larger one in Trento and several in the towns on the trainline in between them as well. Stay a night in any of those, then take another train south to Verona or Bologna depending on which takes your fancy - both amazing to explore for a couple of days, lovely food, etc. and some more xmas markets as well. Both have airports to fly out of or can get you to Milan or Venice easily as well.

cptartapp · 30/07/2022 13:17

Have done a few on your list which were great but Seville which you haven't done, is one of my favourites.
Also liked Malaga.
We have Dubrovnik booked for October.
