ArriveCan

Hi, what vaccination documentation have people used successfully for ArriveCan? We don’t have the original paperwork (I’m actually not sure we got any) so using what we can download from NHS inform (the Scottish site).
However the official looking letter only shows 2nd dose and booster. There is evidence of all 3 jabs on a less official looking page and on the NHS Scot mobile app, but I’m not sure whether screenshots would be accepted?!

I saved the page with the 3 jabs as a pdf and submitted that to ArriveCan and that's been accepted with no question on my two recent trips

2Hooves · 14/07/2022 10:34

From the NHS England App we downloaded it as PDF's. It had the batch number, vaccine type date etc on it. Not sure that helps massively.

We also had to show either paper copies or it in the app on leaving Canada.

MadamCommonOrGarden · 14/07/2022 13:04

Thanks both. @OllyBJolly was that the English one or the Scottish one? Annoyingly, the Scottish page showing three jabs only shows quite limited info. (I’ve shown below.) The downloadable pdf shows the batch etc but only the two most recent jabs which is very annoying! Hopefully if I include both it will get accepted…

Sorry and one other question about arrival! The govt website says to book your arrival covid test before departure, but I believe testing is now random. So should you book one anyway which will almost certainly have to be cancelled, or is that poorly worded in the website?

i screenshotted the QR code from the nhs scotland app

MadamCommonOrGarden · 14/07/2022 13:19

Oh that’s easy enough chipsandpeas, thanks!

I don't think you need to book an arrival test now. I'm not sure that was ever the case actually - even when everyone was being done, you were supposed to register with the lab/organisation at the airport beforehand (though it wasn't actually needed, and was very hard to do as they didn't accept international addresses/phone numbers very well on the form), but not an actual test time as that depends on the arrival time/queues/whether you're transiting onwards, etc.
Now I'm pretty sure it's just random, and you can register if you are selected for one (but from what i've read, not many people are).

bestbefore · 14/07/2022 13:30

You don't need to book a test. Some of the info you get is not up to date I think. Also screenshot the ArriveCAN into inc qr code as easier than faffing with app. Have you done the visa waiva thing?

Scottish.

Canada has suspended random testing for the time being. They were doing a random selection from the arrivals lounge previously.

When do you fly?

CraftyGin · 14/07/2022 14:05

We used the QR code from the NHS website.

It rejected a photo of my vaccine certificate, but the QR code went through in seconds.

MadamCommonOrGarden · 14/07/2022 14:11

Thanks so much all. Especially good to know that the Scottish info is accepted!
I haven’t done the visa waiver yet but it’s on my list. We fly next week (touch wood we all keep swerving covid!)

OP posts:
APMom6 · 14/07/2022 14:51

Do the visa waiver now, we got approval straight away but the last time we came to Canada it took over a week for my husband’s one to be approved. I have no idea why. There’s no random testing anymore. When we arrived in Calgary we were directed to computerised kiosks where you scan your passports and it then prints out pics of those which you hand to the CBSA official. I had also read that tourists had to wear masks but no one is wearing them, even on public transport.

CraftyGin · 14/07/2022 14:59

DH waited 2 days for his visa waiver, which was then rejected. It said he didn't need it because he was already a Canadian citizen. Very spooky as he applied on his UK passport, and both his American and British passports have renewed a couple of times since getting his Canadian citizenship.

CraftyGin · 14/07/2022 15:01

We were in Toronto in May and it was 100% masks, even on the street.

We flew Air Canada and they said we had 10 minutes to eat our meals before replacing our masks. DS took this as a good reason to keep his gin & tonic topped up.

It’s just come up in my fb that random testing will restart next Tuesday in Canada. It won’t be done in the airport but will be done at selected pharmacies offsite.

MadamCommonOrGarden · 14/07/2022 23:25

Oh what a faff. Thanks for letting me know APMom.

bestbefore · 15/07/2022 00:11

I'm here now and it was masks on during the flight but after that we haven't needed them. Like in the UK some people are wearing them but you don't have to

MadamCommonOrGarden · 15/07/2022 10:22

How was the border bestbefore? We are travelling with small kids so just want to be mentally prepared!

@MadamCommonOrGarden we flew to Vancouver, it was absolutely fine! We grabbed the bags which came through quickly for us and then you had to use these booth things to scan your passports & it took out mugshots and it printed out a sheet with the photos on. We then went through passport control I think and she asked us some questions about the trip and then we handed in the bit of paper to another official and were on our way.

At London it was also fine, they checked wed done the ArriveCAN thing and I did it all on one phone. As I said take a grab of the qr code and the names on it as I think that would help!

Where are you off to?

MadamCommonOrGarden · 15/07/2022 17:53

That all sounds good, thanks! Will do on the screenshot. We fly to Toronto but hopefully also all smooth!

I flew into Toronto in June. Got through in about 10 minutes- no problem at all. Coming back was a bit more chaotic at both Toronto and Edinburgh. Still haven’t got my luggage.

Crikey!! Apparently Pearson is chaos at the moment so we are taking plenty of clothes in our hand luggage just in case.

CraftyGin · 20/07/2022 16:48

We went through Pearson in May. It's a huge airport, so there can be lots of walking. We were alerted on the plane that there would be staggered arrival in the airport because of capacity, but it didn't happen.

Although it looked fairly grim at the time, we were actually downtown via the train two hours after landing.

Normandy144 · 20/07/2022 23:21

Has anyone flown in since the reintroduction of random covid tests? We fly in August so wondering what our chances are of not being selected and how the process works.
