Majorca was too hot, where next?

Just back from majorca, Cala Millor, lovely hotel right on the beach, great pool etc but we just found the 29/30 degree heat too hot! Any ideas for a similar holiday next year but somewhere not so hot? I haven't travelled much and I'm wondering about Croatia? Open to any other suggestions. We're two adults, no kids. Thanks

I do think once you get to July you're always risking 28+ because, let's face it, it is summer 🤷‍♀️ I think you need to head more Northern Europe for slightly cooler but anyone who says climate change isn't happening just needs to see how hot so soon it is these days....

declutteringmymind · 12/07/2022 21:28

Jersey, Canary Islands, Devon or Cornwall

RampantIvy · 12/07/2022 21:32

Either go in May or choose from:
Madeira
The Azores
The Atlantic coast of Northern Portugal, Spain or France
The Channel Islands
The Scilly Isles
The Alps

TBH, anywhere in the Med will be very hot at this time of year.

Pocolovo · 12/07/2022 21:39

Like most people have said, go earlier or later! Last time we did Majorca late July/early august the temp were around 34.Ditto Italy and Greece at the same time of year,
maderia is a good shout if you have to travel in July. Similarly the canaries though hot have the breeze!
A few years ago we went to northern France in April and it was in the late 20’s as was Malta at the same time of year!

Pocolovo · 12/07/2022 21:41

How about jersey and guernsey?

QueSyrahSyrah · 12/07/2022 21:42

I've been to both Croatia and Majorca in July and Croatia was considerably hotter!

How about the North of France?

dementedpixie · 12/07/2022 21:44

We were just in Lanazarote in Playa Blanca and although it was warm it was windy so that took the edge off the heat and made it bearable

iamme21 · 12/07/2022 21:47

Can I just ask where you stayed? I’m looking for a hotel on the beach…
sorry to derail!

hotchocdrinker · 12/07/2022 21:56

My daughter has just come back from Croatia and it was about 37 degrees...

dementedpixie · 12/07/2022 22:12

@iamme21 who is your question for?

JasmineVioletRose · 12/07/2022 22:13

Portugal.

iamme21 · 12/07/2022 22:18

Sorry, my question was for @castleview97

Todayissunny · 12/07/2022 22:28

Have you considered doing a mountain lake instead of beach holiday?
Lac de serre poncon in france for example, is warm to swim in and climate is warm enough to sunbathe (if that's what you want to do), but at an altitude of about 800m so pleasantly slightly cooler than the Mediterranean. And it's cool enough to sleep at night.

thenightsky · 12/07/2022 22:31

We've just come back from Madeira. Same weather as a nice day in England really. Bit of drizzle one morning though, so we went sight seeing then. No beaches as such, but amazing dramatic landscape and sea cliffs.

We were a couple with no kids too.

featheryfancy · 12/07/2022 22:32

Croatia in May was approx 25-28 and just perfect.
Not too warm but enough for sunbathing and sea swimming

Dontwanttooffendlocals · 12/07/2022 22:36

Lanzarote.

it is hot but the wind (warm) makes it feel a lot cooler.

snowgal · 12/07/2022 22:36

Those suggesting an alpine holiday, we've being on Lake Annecy/Chamonix/surrounding areas for the last couple of weeks and it's been 28-33°c. My brother lives in Sweden and it's been

whatsthecraic91 · 12/07/2022 22:39

Canary Islands in the winter, we usually go in December & it's a lovely 20-25 degrees. Also cheaper & quieter!

Shoemadlady · 12/07/2022 22:43

Seville is beautiful weather if you go as early as Feb or as late as Oct (just in case you wanted to travel in the school holidays)

That's a bit of a cliffhanger!

QueSyrahSyrah · 12/07/2022 22:50

If you don't mind a long flight then Mauritius isn't too hot this time of year, and you can get really really good deals compared to Europe as it's their off season.

It’s over 30 in the UK right now, but in normal circumstances you’d be on pretty safe ground saying a British beach holiday would be cooler than the Med!

33C is not a normal Alpine summer temperature!

TizerorFizz · 12/07/2022 23:01

Anywhere in the Med is hot in July. I’m surprised it was only 28/30 degrees. Crete is very hot! Croatia won’t be any different. Heatwaves are everywhere!

I also find that looking at historic temperatures doesn’t help. They are invariably 5 degrees too low. If you are child free you have the option of going in May or late Sept. Much more pleasant.

What temperatures were you expecting in Mallorca in July?

Helpful, thanks

Thanks for the helpful replies, I think you're right the answer is to go earlier/later in the year as I still fancy a Med holiday but I'll also look into Germany and your other suggestions.
