Eurocamp what to pack (France, in a mobile home)

ColdCottage · 11/07/2022 16:58

We are driving so apart from the usual basic kitchen items, condiments etc, loo roll, kitchen roll and cleaning products are there any other must pack items

We have ordered linen and will bring our own beach towels.

Is there a line to dry clothes on, do I need to worry about mozzies (no a/c on our park sadly so windows open at night).

My children are 8 and 3 if that helps

Thank you.

Oh and any tips to manage the 10h drive down also welcome. Thanks

I always take a toilet duck rim block or similar. The first time we went to Eurocamp we were in a new caravan but the toilet smelt overwhelming of stale urine particularly in the heat.
We've since stayed in caravans of all ages but not had the issue again. I still pack them just in case.

The kitchen inventory is normally very dire.

Yes to mugs, they tend to give you the ridiculous tiny ones. If you are planning to cook then take a sharp multi purpose knife, a chopping board and a veg peeler. I've even taken my own non stick frying/sauté pan and fish slice in the past as their pans are like tin foil and often stained. Tea towel, dish cloth, fairy, foil , cool bag for picnics.

Sorry to derail the thread - but I'm interested in the toll doodah! Is it a physical dongal that you hang on the rearview mirror/windscreen or is it done via ANPR? Do you just need to create an online account and add your number plate?

Thank you!

Have a look at the autoroute website - you stick it on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror it bills you monthly. You have to pay a deposit last time I think it was ten euros but so worth it!

www.emovis-tag.co.uk/ is what you want for France and Spain. Brilliant way of jumping the queues. We got ours 4 years ago after reading about it here

stringbean · 13/07/2022 15:50

If you're travelling on the Eurotunnel you can get the tag for free www.eurotunnel.com/uk/promotions/emovis-tag/

Just need to enter your booking reference number. They are brilliant and we estimate they have cut journey times by up to an hour on busy routes eg travelling to the Alps in winter - some real bottlenecks can build up at the big peages and it's very gratifying to be able to whizz through the priority lane!

AnotherEmma · 13/07/2022 17:57

Emovis looks expensive with all the fees. I would suggest trying Ulys as there are no subscription fees. ulys.vinci-autoroutes.com/en/

As others have said: knives and chopping board.
Mattress topper if you have room for one in the car. We found the double bed very uncomfortable indeed!
as many towels as you can fit.

very grateful for the tag/peage recommendation. I had no idea such thungs existed!

PP mention taking a cooked meal. We are off next week to France and I thought we couldn't take dairy, meat, veg or fruit in. I wanted to pack a lunch here to eat on the way, but that limits us massively?

newtb · 14/07/2022 09:20

Driving to the south west it's a raster, shorter, cheaper route going around Rouen. Only problem is that you now need a 'crit air' sticker. There is a govt site and you just put your reg no in, there's a separate box for forrin véhicules. More and more cities are requiring them, and there are fines if you don't have one

Agree with knives.

Glittertwins · 14/07/2022 10:27

Crit Air is reasonably easy to do even with limited French. They will send you an email that can be printed as proof of certification in case the full one doesn't arrive in the post in time

SaffyWall · 14/07/2022 12:59

Thanks for all the advice. We're going on the Eurostar so I'll go with the emovis option, and travelling via Rouen so will sort the Crit-Air sticker too.

Merci beaucoup!

bare · 14/07/2022 13:17

Can you buy the Crit Air sticker in France? We are going in five days and I'm not sure if our route will require one 😱

Glittertwins · 14/07/2022 16:13

I think you need to apply before. The email receipt can be used.
If you stay on the autoroute through Lyons for example, you don't need it.

Glittertwins · 14/07/2022 16:18

According to RAC, it is possible to get in France. But check where you are going and do it online via the French govt website as you can use the email receipt for proof of purchase if you need one

bare · 15/07/2022 08:28

Thanks all. We've just done it! Amusingly half way down the list of countries in English (which are not in alphabetical order) there is a 'country' called 'fruit salad' 😂😂 Think the intern was working that day!

Highly useful thread, thanks!

ColdCottage · 16/07/2022 09:20

Anyone in a Eurocamp now? How is the heat in a mobile home with just a fan 😱 I'm nervous. No a/c in ours this coming week 🔥

OP posts:
ColdCottage · 09/08/2022 21:14

This thread provided a good list.

Only items I would add would be a couple of baking trays (inc a flat one for pizzas) and a couple of extention cables with a decent length on them so you can plug things in (like fans, baby monitors) where you need them to be. Also reduces the number of converters you need.

Ours was well equipped, only a leg width of space around the beds but not in them much.

I think if I went again I would pack my suitcases with big zip lock bags with different collections of items, say underwear, tops, shorts etc as there wasn't much storage and this way I could push the suitcase under the bed and then side out and grab the bag I needed.

OP posts:
Glittertwins · 09/08/2022 21:19

We don't take suitcases, we just pack soft bags for each of us, leaves a lot more room in the car boot. Air con in this heat has been brilliant

Gazelda · 09/08/2022 21:32

Oh no! We're going on Sat and I've forgotten to get the toll thing.

If anyone is still compiling their list to take, don't forget matches. And I always take citronella candle to burn on the deck in the evening.
I've not taken our own pillows before, but I might this year.

ColdCottage · 09/08/2022 21:41

@@Gazelda own pillows were a good call.

We didn't do the toll thing and it wasn't an issue.

DeadbeatYoda · 09/08/2022 21:57

Take hot water bottles to fill with water and freeze. This will help cool the beds.
It's also good to out a bowl of ice cubes in front of any fans overnight.
