I know it’s been done many times before, but looking at prices for a simple weekend break for 4 in eg. Prague or similar they have rocketed since Covid

DH and I are paying, so needs to be cheap (ish)

Albania? Or Bulgaria? The next Croatia so Im told ....

Or we recently drove to Bruge via Eurostar-which was easy and cheap and in November you'd be pre Christmas market season so it might be cheaper? And it's really lovely-plus you can get to other places from there cheaply and easily so a day out in Amsterdam or whatever?

Spain could be nice. If you avoid Madrid and Barcelona (always crazy expensive) you could look at Seville, Valencia or Córdoba — they tend to be cheaper.

Brno, Czech Republic is meant to be really nice but I've never been.

Antwerp could be interesting. With a side trip to Brussels.

Marrakesh

We went to Berlin last November, it was amazing and swiftly became my favourite city. Ryanair flights were about £50pp e/w from Manchester (and far cheaper travelling Wednesday / Sunday).

Bruges

Alastair Campbell was bigging up the charms and delicious cheap Italian restaurants of Tirana on his podcast yesterday. Sounded lovely.

jevoudrais · 01/07/2022 16:33

Vienna! Was beautiful in Nov 2018. Salzburg is also lovely.

Frenchfancy · 01/07/2022 16:44

Malaga old town is really nice. Much nicer than Barcelona and much cheaper. Weather still pretty good in November.

AnyFucker · 01/07/2022 17:27

Thanks all, some good ideas

Anywhere with good museums, galleries & cafes because then you are not weather- dependent.
Obvious ones are Rome, Amsterdam & Vienna, but smaller cities may be cheaper - assuming you can get convenient flights.

calmlakes · 01/07/2022 17:54

Granada is lovely for a short break.

cailingaelach · 03/07/2022 12:56

Krakow or Wroclaw. Wroclaw Christmas markets start on 18th Nov..we were there last year and they're gorgeous. It's a lovely city.

NCTDN · 03/07/2022 13:59

Has anyone been to Dubrovnik? I'm looking at there for end of October.

AnyFucker · 03/07/2022 14:56

Flights to Dubrovnik stop at end of October, I would have been interested in there. Have been to Split and some of the islands in the summer and it is fantastic

I've done Antwerp and Berlin and Copenhagen in November and all have been fantastic. Imagine Amsterdam and Bruge would be similarly cosy/cool/cultured.

I think Northern Europe in November seems hard work. All those jumpers to pack.

Barcelona has lots of hotel capacity so there’s a deal to be done.. My favourite hotel has a perfect location to see the sights and beach and an indoor pool and spa and outdoor pool. If the weather is cold and rubbish you can just flop about in the pool/ sauna or steam room until you feel like going out.. Don’t underestimate how fab a rooftop pool in November is in the winter sun ( 14/15 degrees avg). Also the cava is €4 a bottle so you can do drinks on the terrace without spending a fortune.
Its not the cheapest hotel but you’ll have a good weekend. I know lots of good cheaper ones if you want to message me. I’ve been going for years.

AnyFucker · 03/07/2022 19:01

Have been to Barcelona and agree it is fab. We wean to go somewhere different. Have also been to Copenhagen (found it a bit boring, tbh) and Berlin as well as Amsterdam (loved them).

Also been to Krakow during a heatwave in September. Took a tour of Auschwitz using the black brollies they provide to keep the sun off which was surreal and very sad and humbling at the same time.

We went to Seville in Feb and was lovely & warm. The Setas and Alacazar Palace were highlights, plus obvs the yum tapas

Lisbon is good - I went in May. V hilly, e scooters fun for getting around and fabulous Gin and Tonics plus seafood

goldfinchonthelawn · 03/07/2022 19:16

Budapest! Such a beautiful city with lots of hot spring baths and cosy cafes if you get chilly. Indoor markets, the opera only opens in winter so you could go to that. It's just perfect.

AnyFucker · 03/07/2022 19:18

Budapest is up there, yep

Nobody has mentioned Prague.

We did Seville in March and it was one of our favourites. Compact city, easy to walk around and great food.

We’ve done Rome during October half term and had T shirt weather. It’s also one of our favourite cities and we are due a revisit because we didn’t get to do the Sistine Chapel so I wasn’t able to scream at the sight of it.
