Child free holiday needed - but no sun

adei · 26/06/2022 22:06

Finally after 18years we have the opportunity to have a child free holiday. Next week!

I am very sensitive to the sun and heat so I'm looking for locations no sunnier/hotter than the UK. Every holiday I've seen seems to be Spain, Turkey etc so big no goes.

I'm looking for somewhere quiet, secluded and child free. Uk or abroad.

Any ideas?

Norway? Denmark? Sweden? I went there about 3 years ago, definitely similar to U.K. and lovely at this time of year

Alaska

Cakeorchocolate · 26/06/2022 22:11

Iceland is beautiful.

AmbushedByCake · 26/06/2022 22:14

Cruise the Baltics or Norway and Iceland on one of the P&O adults only cruise ships. We did a Norwegian cruise for our honeymoon, it was fabulous.

AmbushedByCake · 26/06/2022 22:14

I know that doesn't sound quiet but the vibe on board was really really peaceful.

There doesn't seem many options during summer for Norway or Iceland.

Stavangar in Norway is lovely in summer

bellac11 · 26/06/2022 23:39

Another vote for Iceland, I loved it but that was in winter. I love the cold

Kite22 · 26/06/2022 23:43

Norway and Iceland both beautiful but also both very expensive.

Have you ever been to Holland ? I really liked it when I went.
I was also surprised how much I liked Germany.

CandyLeBonBon · 26/06/2022 23:44

Belgian/German beaches?

Dartmoorcheffy · 26/06/2022 23:46

Scotland, Lake District, Ireland, Wales.. all have stunning scenery but are cooler and it will probably rain too

Lysianthus · 27/06/2022 07:56

Perhaps consider a DIY holiday to Scandinavia. Norwegian do cheap flights (depends on where in uk you are).

ImInStealthMode · 27/06/2022 07:58

Jersey or Guernsey? Ticks the boxes for quiet and relatively secluded.

The Somerville Hotel in Jersey doesn't encourage kids under 12, and the Driftwood Inn in Guernsey is adults only.

Svalbard.

Isles of Scilly?

WhyNott · 27/06/2022 08:09

Ireland? I visited the west coast one summer, it was lovely!

erinaceus · 27/06/2022 08:11

Lake District or Iceland

Suit your weather requirements, will be fab with a balcony cabin to see the fjords as you sail.

Alwayspaintyournails · 27/06/2022 08:36

Belgium, Bruges and Ghent are lovely and often similar weather to the UK.

VanCleefArpels · 27/06/2022 08:42

Why bother with the faff of airports etc - get on a train /in the car and explore our lovely country! Northumberland or Norfolk coasts are beautiful. Glasgow great for a mix of culture and great countryside nearby (loch lomond in particular).

PlopPlop · 27/06/2022 08:45

Orkney Islands is on my bucket list. Stunning, full of history and culture and very relaxing peaceful

whiteroseredrose · 27/06/2022 08:52

Iceland is amazing. And of course you can go in the summer! We went in August 2020 - the weather is a bit better than other times of year.

VERY expensive though.

If you are OK to drive abroad, what about Northern France? Accommodation isn't too expensive there. There are some lovely beach towns if that is your thing. We fancy Bayeux for the tapestry, WW2 landing beaches, Mont St Michel and accessibility to Honfleur, Deauville and Rouen.

Iceland. In June it's lovely and so strange being somewhere the sun doesn't set. We went hiking over a glacier at 2 in the morning lol.

It's easy to drive around and lots of amazing scenery.

It's expensive and sometimes the air smells of sulphur but it's one of the best places I've ever been.
