Country of birth - England or Britain?
koalaha · 15/05/2022 18:16
On the form for renewing a British passport there’s a box entitled “country of birth (including UK)”. Do I put “England, UK” or “Britain, UK”? Thanks!
MeanderingGently · 15/05/2022 18:22
Well, I always put England because that's the country I was born in (as opposed to Scotland or Wales or Ireland....)
FitAt50 · 15/05/2022 18:46
Put UK as that the name we are called by the UN and rest of the world.
dementedpixie · 15/05/2022 18:58
Are you not doing it online?
Its cheaper and faster online
Topseyt123 · 15/05/2022 19:00
Oh, and do the online forms rather than the paper ones from the Post Office. They are far quicker and easier.

Put UK. Don't think Great Britain is accurate as our country is called the United Kingdom of GB and N Ireland.
Basketet · 15/05/2022 19:05
IME most Scots put Scotland. I'm not sure why there would be a problem with putting England as your country of birth.

I always put Scotland for country of birth - it's the actual country I was born in.

Britain isn’t a country. If you were born in England you could put that or UK.

The passports say 'British Citizen'

This one doesn't.
City of birth - Edinburgh. Country - UK.

Thanks for replies. As it says “including UK” that makes me wonder whether they want something else as well as UK? (As in, “England, UK” for example.)
I can’t apply online because that’s not allowed for fast track passports, which is what I’m applying for.
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/05/2022 19:32
Including UK means you have state even if you were born in the UK. Because you could have been born in another country (eg my daughter was born in Germany, her passport states her German birth place... but states she is a British Citizen- has has no claim for German nationality.)
Username917778 · 15/05/2022 19:34
Really surprised by the replies. I'd never have even thought to put UK. I put Scotland on my application (and everything like it)
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 15/05/2022 19:41
I've always put England. As that was the country I was born.
Alwayshoovering · 15/05/2022 19:42
I always put England and its never been a problem. I'm not a known/recent mixture of Welsh, Scottish, Irish and English so don't use UK when entering country of birth
