Question about travel covid stuff for Italy

ENoeuf · 11/04/2022 10:19

Booked via Jet2holidays and all seems find so far, nice app to manage payments and info. How do I do the covid stuff - is it tricky? I think we all need a passenger location form and a covid vaccination declaration - how soon can I get these for august? Do we print them? Upload them somewhere? I’ve looked at the foreign office stuff and it’s a bit confusing.

So much can change between now and August. I would personally not be worrying until mid-July, the rules are bound to change and it will just confuse you further if every 2 weeks you’re reading a different version.

Just make sure you always have a valid vaccination certificate handy, as that’s probably the easiest option compared to recovery cert or negative tests. Check the 270 day rule to make sure you’re covered by your second dose and/or booster.

We are currently in Italy. The form took minutes a couple of day before we left. We spent a lot of time worrying about green passes for the DC but literally no-one checked at any point, including the airport.

The rules had only just changed and were more stringent before April. There's a very good chance they will be different by August.

I wouldn't worry for a while.

ENoeuf · 11/04/2022 14:56

Thanks both of you - how did you get the passes, just through the NHS page? Is that a green pass, I only have my phone with the app really.
Maybe I need to wait I’m just a bit stressed about going.

We were there last week. Filled in the Italian PLF but it was never checked at the airport. Green Passes were checked to go into restaurants though. I uploaded my documents to the airline's website so I could check in online, then just had to bag drop.

Yes you can just use your NHS travel pass (on the app) it's slightly more tricky with children, especially 12 year olds who need the pass but can't get the app (you can order a letter or download it on the NHS website).

I wouldn't be surprised if it changed a lot. From what I've read it relaxed a lot on 1st April.

fussychica · 11/04/2022 17:33

Apparently there's another review on 30th April. We are off on 3 May so hoping for further relaxation of rules.
By summer everything could be gone or reinstated because of higher level of cases. Uncertainty is still the name of the game where holiday plans are concerned.

ENoeuf · 11/04/2022 18:42

Thank you I’m probably too early just want to make sure I’m on top of things. Not sure why I’m finding it stressful just a bit jumpy about it all.

I flew into Italy on Sunday night.
Covid passes were all checked at the airport (took us almost as long to get through passport control as the flight!) and about 20 people were caught out with no PLF. Likewise on the actual flight people were surprised that for flights going into Italy ffp2 are a requirement.
I wouldn't worry about any of this now though as I'm sure things will change for the (even) better before the summer.

We came back from Rome on Sunday.

You just need your vaccination certificate and passenger locator form.

You also need FPF2 masks. They are mandatory. However, the only place that denied entry without one was the Vatican. (Got mine from Amazon)

I only had the vaccination certificate checked once. No restaurants asked for it.

ENoeuf · 12/04/2022 08:15

Thank you - so the vaccination certificate for all of us and masks. And passenger locator form - do they get printed and taken with you or uploaded? I don’t know why I’m so stressed about it.

I don’t know about Italy, but you don’t need the PLF to go to Spain any more (changed 5 days ago).

The UK/EU are in the list of countries that accept each other’s vaccination certificate, which in our case is the page with the QR code you get online or in the app.

As others have said above, you’ll have to double check requirements closer to your trip, as they seem to be changing often.

Also, you can go and check how to do it on your app now, but don’t save it because it’s valid for a few weeks only.

You’ll have to do it all just before your trip.

ENoeuf · 12/04/2022 08:40

Thank you, it sounds a lot easier than I thought really appreciate you and everyone posting. I’ll revisit in June for august trip.

What are the rules for children being vaccinated to travel to italy?

PAFMO · 12/04/2022 09:02

@fruitpastille

What are the rules for children being vaccinated to travel to italy?
If they aren't vaccinated they need a test to enter and then tests every 48 hours (LFT) or 72 hours (PCR) in order to get a green pass where those are still required (inside public buildings, museums, restaurants etc) Again, this will undoubtedly change before the summer. They are relaxing the rules all the time slowly but surely. Now for example you don't need a Vax certificate at all to eat/drink outside but you do if inside. Etc. Ffp2 masks are much cheaper here than in the UK I've noticed- about 75c each.

The Italian green pass is their version of the NHS vaccination app on your phone. The barcode on is scanned before you're allowed into restaurants.

They can scan the NHS one on your phone. You don't have to download the Italian one.

ENoeuf · 12/04/2022 10:27

Ah thank you.

We are are in Florence now. PLF wasn't looked at on arrival, nor vaccination certificates. FFP2 masks on plane and tram. Also masks inside shops, museums, hotel and restaurants, although this is being lifted from 1st May. Had to wear masks and have a temperature check to get into Boboli gardens. It is fine though.

ENoeuf · 12/04/2022 13:31

Oh brilliant thank you. I love Florence Smile

OP posts:
TellySavalashairbrush · 12/04/2022 13:36

Definitely get the FPF2 masks (Easyjet won't board you unless you are wearing them and they don't supply spares!)
I don't have the Green Pass app, but have been allowed entry to bars and restaurants by showing my NHS Covid pass showing my vaccinations when I am in the south of Italy.

ENoeuf · 12/04/2022 13:39

Brilliant thank you I’ll order some. I’m really anxious about that holiday after so long.

What is a green pass?
Foreign tourist don't need a green pass in Italy any more. The rules recently changed. Although not all restaurants may have caught up yet nhs may still be asking to see it/nhs vaccine pass.
PAFMO · 12/04/2022 20:32

That's not true.
You no longer need a Super Green Pass (vaccinated or recovered only) unless you work in certain occupations. You still need a Green Pass but if all goes to plan, that will be abolished at the end of April for most things.

ENoeuf · 13/04/2022 09:08

So if I take nhs proof of vaccination for all of us it sounds like we will be ok.

Nope. I live in Italy. There is an exemption for foreign tourists.
