contemplating a holiday when we haven't had one for 11 years and have lots of question!

would be a once in a lifetime for us, so desperate to get it right

I can't stand the heat, but have school age kids, so have to NOT go in July/ August

any advice would be V. welcome!

I have been in March/April, May/June, July and this year we are having to do July/Aug.

March/April warm, May/June (which we did last year) warmer. July v hot. We are having to do July/Aug this year as DS1 in Yr 6 and doing SATS so we are not allowed to take him out of schoool.

May/June was great. We did queue for things but not anything like in July.

We always fly Virgin to America - these are the best.

ah twiggy thanks!

I really don't enjoy the heat, I'm very Scottish in colouring - takes me a week to go from blue to white!

can you advise me about the temp in Easter? is it as high as 30 degrees? (that kills me)

my kids are 6 and 9, am loathe to take them out of school(never done it) but don't know a way around it...........

can you advise me on hotels/villa's?

our budget is low, could we get a villa on a low budget with a pool?

{I know I don't want much}

Many years ago (before dh and the kids) went to Orlando in Feb and it was fab. Very warm with some short lasting heavy downpours that dried up quickly. It was great!!!! Not too boiling...
have a wonderful time - you'll LOVE it! x

MamaG · 08/01/2008 12:19

I'm going to have to hide this thread - I keep thinking you mean this orlando

Twiggypiggy · 08/01/2008 12:25

I would think temperature would be in the region of 75/85.

We have only ever stayed in one place and that is the Sheraton Vistana Villages on International Drive (the quiet end). You can book this through Virgin. www.virginholidays.co.uk/brochures/accom_only/holidays/florida/international_drive

A friend has just been and she booked a villa with a pool but it was in the region of £400 per week. There are probably some good sites to look at if you type villas in orlando into google.

At the moment, Universal/Islands of Adventure have got buy two days get 1 free on tickets.

tinpot · 08/01/2008 12:28

I went in February and it was the perfect temperature. In the mid 70's or high 60's wit no humidity. It's not the heat in Florida that's the killer, it's humidity. If I ever went back there it would be in February. I think that is statistically the month with the least rainfall in Fl too? Don't quote me on that though!

Kbear · 08/01/2008 12:30

Did someone mention Orlando?

Have I mentioned my holiday?

I know, I know, I'm going away now....

LoveAngel · 08/01/2008 12:31

Orlando is never cold, out it that way! Easter is better than summer, imo, because less rain / chance of hurricane in Florida. We're going in March this year, as ILs live out there. Where are you staying?

LoveAngel · 08/01/2008 12:32

put it that way (doh! to my typing)

LadyMuck · 08/01/2008 12:34

You need to consult The Dibb. It knows everything.

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 08/01/2008 13:16

actually, don't see how we can go, the school holidays are so restricting

has anyone ever taken their kids out of school for 2 weeks? can't ever imagine doing that

twiggy this place looks amazing, but it also looks £ wise way out of our league!

prices weren't even on the site......

Snow - yes we have taken boys of out school - this year is the first year we can't because of DS1 being in Yr6 and having SATS. I have done two weeks before they break up in July and also taken them out a week before the May/Jun hols start.

When we stayed at the Sheraton Vistana Villages in July - it cost us £3600 including flights and car - this was all through Virgin. Bearing in mind that this is quite high season, I would think it would be considerably lower earlier in the year.

We have a two bed apartment with full kitchen. The boys have their own double bed each, with large tv, own bathroom. We have bigger than kingsize bed, jacuzzi and own bathroom and large tv. The verandas are screened off - so that takes care of child safety. Zero entry pool for the little ones. Something going on every day with activities.

Ring Virgin or price it up on their website.

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 08/01/2008 14:01

thanks twiggy!

the website has no prices and TBH its taken me ages to get my head around spending this amount on a holiday, we've not been abroad in 12 years and the kids never!!

we just feel we all need a bloody good holiday and if we don't go for it we never will........

will try to ring virgin for prices, thanks!

I have booked for Feb I'm doing a disney cruise 3nights and staying at a disney hotel but I did it seperately as its cheaper. My american neighbour kived in Florida and she recommneded feb but avoid Presidents weekend which I think thisyear is 14-17th Feb as goes back to peak time.
She also told me to check out www.mousesavers.com with loads of tips.

Kbear · 08/01/2008 20:49

mine will be 6 and 9 and I think they are the perfect ages - still in awe of the magic, big enough for the rides, no buggies involved!

unknownrebelbang · 08/01/2008 20:52

Can I just say it was blardy freezing in Orlando last Wednesday and Thursday?

Ab Fab the rest of the fortnight, hehe.

wheresthehamster · 08/01/2008 20:54

If children are over 9 then they have to pay adult prices for park tickets so 6 and 9 are perfect!

cerys · 08/01/2008 20:56

February felt lovely and warm to us. DO NOT GO IN PRESIDENTS' WEEK, which last year was same as our Half term - it was quite crowded!

evenhope · 08/01/2008 20:58

We've been during the Feb half term, Easter March and Easter April and it's been nice. Warm/ hot but not exhausting hot. More T shirts and shorts and don't mind getting wet hot.

Twiggypiggy · 09/01/2008 08:40

Snow - book that holiday!

foofi · 09/01/2008 08:45

We have been three times at Easter. It's peak season there, so most places are fairly busy, but the weather is great. It's a bit like the hottest summers here, not to unbearable or humid like it would be in their summer.
