Hi as we the title says really. Looking to book (no boosters) everything seems quite pricey in terms of Egypt, Dubai , Dom rep etc but we were thinking Morocco? Anyone been recently 2 kids age 8 and 6 and any recommendations!

Are you a white woman? Be prepared for a lot of harassment and unwanted touching unless you have your male owner beside you.

Some French will serve you well if you don't know Arabic.

Try to get to Essaouira if you can as it's gorgeous (old Portuguese seaside town).

A trip into the desert is worth it if your kids are old enough for camels- unsure about that.

KELLOGSspeck · 25/03/2022 17:03

I cany comment on Morocco but its on my bucket list for the future.

I've been to Dubai in 2016 and I loved it. I did Dominican Republic a couple of years ago.. booked with TUI. I stayed for 2 weeks in Grand memories splash it was paradise!!

The people were lovely and kind. The Canddians are super fun too.

floofycroissant · 25/03/2022 17:06

I went to Marrakech on a short break with my mum. Loved it. No harassment, even in the souks. I personally found Turkey worse for that. Would definitely go back for the coast and Atlas mountains

Thanks for all the replies!

It's great but be prepared to be harassed and if you don't respond positively, it can be unpleasant at times.

Essaouira was lovely and much more relaxed.

The Atlas mountains were fab but there weren't any children that I remember.

Honestly at age 8 and 6 unless you find a resort, my kids would not have enjoyed this as a holiday x

I’ve been to Marrakesh a few times and I never had a problem with men harassing me and the staff in the hotel were always great as opposed to in Egypt where I found waiters were desperate for tips constantly.

I presume you’re aware that you need to take a PCR currently to enter Morocco? We were looking to go in April but just couldn’t be bothered with the faff of testing.

QueenofLouisiana · 25/03/2022 17:50

I had few problems in the souks, I wore a floor length dress, a scarf and sunglasses. Yes calling out to attract your attention but not harassment or hassle.

We stayed at the Iberostar on the outskirts of Marrakesh. Food was good. Grounds nice and well maintained, good range of things to do without raucous “ents”. Multigenerational family trip: ages mid 70s to teens.

AmbushedByCake1 · 25/03/2022 17:50

What kind of holiday are you after OP? Beach? Culture? Lots to do or fly and flop type thing?

Soffit · 25/03/2022 17:55

Unless you are a windsurfer I cannot see why you would want to spend more than a day in Essaouira. In Marrakech itself, pick an exclusive riad which also does gourmet meals and has a nice roof terrace (would be ££££s more elsewhere). It will allow you to relax in the evenings. Make sure you visit Yves Saint Laurent's museum (short cab ride from Jamaa el Fnaa). It is stunning and has beautiful gardens even if fashion is not your thing.

User1234567891011121314 · 25/03/2022 17:55

Hi, thanks for all your replies! I have lived in countries such as Morocco so am aware of the hagglers as such etc

@AmbushedByCake1 we basically just wanted a water park type hotel which I've only seen 1 of that's affordable, if we were after beach Agadir would be more popular right? DH thinks finding a resort type thing on outskirts of Marrakech might be good but it's not looking amazing.

I'm open to other destinations which don't cost an arm and leg which accept double vaxxed but no booster and around 24 degrees so we can enjoy the swimming pool. That's all!

Yes aware of taking PCRs for all of us!

@Soffit I just bought something from YSL so that sounds amazing and I love museums!!

I always stayed in the heart of Jamaa el Fnaa just to absorb the atmosphere (their fresh juices are great, the rest varies). The stallholders can be pushy but if you are good at communicating your boundaries then you should be left alone and have a great time.

Wow, what a coincidence! It is honestly stunning. None of the big budget transformations I have seen on Your Garden Made Perfect even come close to it (and I'm not even into gardens!)

Yes this was my experience too. Got zero hassle in Marrakech. Turkey was much worse

I’d agree., went with my 2 adult daughters and not a jot of harassment.

Yes yes! We also did a cookery class run by a womens charity
Lurkerlot · 25/03/2022 18:19

As others, Marrakech, no problems.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/03/2022 18:23

Never been to Marrakech but would like to go. Got lots of hassle in Tangiers and Fez but was with female friend both aged 21 (we dressed respectfully but I have no idea if it made any difference because we still got hassled). Atlas Mountains were wonderful, peaceful and off the beaten track. We got a shared taxi from Fez.

TruffleShuffles · 25/03/2022 18:46

Is Cape Verde an option? I’m not sure they have the full on water park hotels but there’s usually a big pool and the beaches are lovely. There is very little to do there though so it’s very much a relax in the resort type of holiday.

justasmalltownmum · 25/03/2022 18:53

If you are after a water park type resort, then try anatalya in turkey or sharm el sheikh in Egypt.

Morocco is not it.

Wintersbone · 25/03/2022 19:12

If you're blonde and slim or have blonde daughters then I really wouldn't...I have never wanted out of somewhere so fast. It was no fun clinging to leggy blonde DSD while men who could be her grandfather tried to touch her.....just gross.

User1234567891011121314 · 25/03/2022 19:52

Thanks @justasmalltownmum that's what I was thinking however the prices for Sharm are ££££...

@Wintersbone sorry to hear about your experience! Lucky I'm not blonde or thin...

Yes @TruffleShuffles Cape Verde is an option but again looking at prices Morocco seems to be cheapest!!!

If you want a waterpark type holiday go to Turkey. Loads of massive hotels which would fit the bill.
