Holidays
If you were going on honeymoon in September, where would you go?
Hausa · 23/03/2022 23:15
Ideally with warm sandy beaches, decent nightlife and good food. Anywhere in the world, money not really a factor.
Where would you personally go and why?
beachcitygirl · 24/03/2022 06:51
I personally love barbados. Beaches, ocean breeze, great nightlife, lots to see. Ocean2 hotel on south coast is wonderful
Fedupofballs · 24/03/2022 07:05
We’re hoping to head to Bali/Lombok in august. From my research I don’t think Bali is renowned for its white sandy beaches. We’re heading to Lombok (Gili islands and Selong Belanak) for those.
You do seem to get really good value luxurious accommodation in either hotels or villas in Bali and there seems to be some great places to explore.
mocktail · 24/03/2022 08:18
I'd go to the East coast of Thailand. West coast tends to be a lot wetter that time of year. I'd research the Covid situation carefully before going anywhere far-flung at the moment though.
Nearer to home, the Greek islands are lovely in September - island hopping in the Cyclades would be lovely and you'd have some of the beaches to yourself.
5zeds · 24/03/2022 08:52
@Hausa yes I’m sorry I wasn’t disputing that exploitation in Dubai existed, more why you felt it was worse than anywhere else? Surely you have read of other destinations with similar local and migrant exploitation?
sageandbasil · 24/03/2022 08:54
we went to South Africa for our honeymoon in October so I don't think September would be that different. It was amazing
Hausa · 24/03/2022 10:26
@HotToddyColdSauvignon Indeed, disapproving of well documented modern slavery and human rights violations is so gauche of me, when I hadn’t given prior warning.
Hausa · 24/03/2022 10:30
@LollyLol You wouldn’t go somewhere long haul ‘just for a holiday’. What would you go for, then? A peacekeeping mission? Or is your plan to never ever leave Europe?
The likelihood of my never getting on a plane again is fairly slim. Particularly as my family lives on another continent and I quite like them. As I haven’t flown anywhere in several years and I’m only getting married once, my conscience is pretty okay with it.
On the other hand, not supporting well documented modern day slavery is fairly easy to do and quite straightforward, so I’ll keep not doing that. You’re free to be facetious about it, though.

Which of the other destinations suggested on this thread have similar levels of local and migrant exploitation?
5zeds · 24/03/2022 10:36
@HausaIt’s ok you don’t have to share why you think that. I don’t have time to pick back through the destinations mentioned.!I was just curious as to where the impression had come from as I genuinely struggle to see it’s worse than anywhere else.
Hausa · 24/03/2022 10:38
@beachcitygirl
You out username is basically what we want. 😂 I’ve never been to Barbados, will do some research, thank you.
Hausa · 24/03/2022 10:47
@5zeds There’s only thirty odd comments, and a third of them are mine. It’s a pretty short thread and there wouldn’t be much picking required.
You’ve said you don’t see why I think Dubai is worse than anywhere else, so I’ve asked you to provide the holiday destinations mentioned (which is the context of this conversation), that you consider to have similar local and migrant exploitation. If, looking at the list provided, there aren’t any, then I suppose you’ve answered your own question.
5zeds · 24/03/2022 10:59
Ok @Hausa I’ll jog on. I’m sorry to have interrupted your thread I was genuinely interested rather than looking for a dissection of different countries labour laws etc. I don’t really understand the reticence but I respect it
hilbil21 · 24/03/2022 11:04
@Hausa it's brilliant. White sandy beach right in front of hotel, fabulous restaurants in the hotel and nightlife there if you want it.
Hausa · 24/03/2022 11:13
@5zeds And I don’t really understand your reticence to state where these other countries are that have similar issues?
I told you what my issues were with Dubai, you asked how that was worse than anywhere else and I’ve asked which ‘anywhere else’ you’re referring to, in the context of holiday destinations.
It’s not an unreasonable query, I’ve asked multiple times and you’ve responded multiple times, but you’re yet to tell me. I can’t see why that would be unless you can’t actually come up with any?
Horriblewoman · 24/03/2022 11:22
We did the amalfi coast last September for our honeymoon and it was totally perfect.
Hausa · 24/03/2022 11:22
@hilbil21 I had honestly never thought about it, but I will, now! Thanks!
Hausa · 24/03/2022 11:35
So, strongest contenders are the Greek Islands, Bali and the wild card that is Cancun. I shall get researching. Thanks, everyone.
YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 24/03/2022 11:48
Various parts of Africa.
Start with a stay at a vineyard - small hotels, great views, pool lounging, drinking and sleeping. Recover from wedding and flight.
Then a Safari for a few nights (luxury camping type, very small group).
Then an island paradise for a week / 10 days.
Or Sri Lanka. Beautiful island - tropical beaches, tea plantations, ancient Buddhist relics, safaris and lovely people.
658Doyouknowwheremysparkis · 24/03/2022 11:50
Vanuatu, iririki island is lovely and worth the flight imo
eurochick · 24/03/2022 11:59
I've been to Borneo in September. Amazing place. Wildlife, jungle, beaches. It has everything.
Letsshop · 24/03/2022 11:59
If you do decide on Bali I can recommend a good private guide.
Oh where I like has just been mentioned!
