We went last year with toddler for cheap break with very low expectations and ended up loving it so much we are going back in May. We stayed in Playa Blanca last time, didn't overly rate our hotel but loved the beach and the area. Looking to book one of the many H10's we saw dotted around there this time.

Trying to pick between the one in PB or whether we should try something new and stay in Costa Teguise this time? Anyone been both and have a preference?

Struggling with where to book

H10 Rubicon Marina in Playa Blanca has top reviews and ratings but is a long way out of the centre
H10 Princess in Playa Blanca is more central but has worse reviews
H10 Suites Lanzarote Gardens in Costa Teguise seems ideal from a kids point of view and has best reviews of the three but I keep hearing breezy Teguise and worrying it'll be cold in May Grin

PB last October was lovely, hot but with a really gentle wind making it bearable - was never cold. I went to Fuerteventura once however and it was so windy I was freezing even when it was sunny so I'm worried CT is more like that?

Rubicon Palace is the best hotel out of your 3 shortlisted. But... as location is important to you go with the Princess unless you are happy walking (which is what we do).

I am possibly biased as I'm going to H10 suites in CT in Oct.... But we used to go to Costa Teguise when I was a kid, mostly Oct/Nov and I don't remember it ever being really windy. We've got pictures of those holidays and I'm basically never not wearing a swimming costume, so it must have been pretty warm! I definitely remember it being nicely hot - in the few pictures where I'm wearing actual clothes I'm in summer dresses. So I would say go for the Lanzarote Gardens H10 if that's the one with the best reviews and the one that seems like it will suit your/your kids best.

Let us know what you go for, and please report back when you come home!

@pixie5121 I'm in CT right now, most of the week has been crap thanks to that storm but beautiful today and looks like it's going to be lovely next week. It is a bit breezy, but nothing horrible, unlike earlier in the week!

nattergal · 18/03/2022 18:14

I wouldn't stress too much about the wind. Yes it can be windy but it's really not that bad. We always tend to go late May but we've also been in October and the weather has always been really warm/baking hot. It just gets a bit chilly at night so you'd need a light jacket. Any cloud/rain tends to get blown away really quickly so doesn't last long. My mum has an apartment in CT that she bought specifically for the winter sun-it's lovely all year round.

It was June when we were in CT and it was a bit cool. Maybe we were just unlucky! Been to Fuerteventura in October and it was roasting for the week, not windy so I guess it's just down to luck. Been in PDC in March and it was miserable. I find the weather is so unreliable in the canaries! H10 Lanzarote Gardens was a really good spot with kids, loved the night entertainment set up. Pools were freezing though!

JorisBonson · 18/03/2022 19:21

@pixie5121 drank and ate a lot 😂 went for lots of walks and spent a day snorkelling, really good fun

nattergal · 18/03/2022 20:19

@JorisBonson another rec for you if you like a decent walk is Casa Tomas in Las Caletas. Prob a good 40 min walk from CT all along the sea front. It's a Tapas restaurant overlooking the sea. I've only been once but loved it and had an amazing octopus salad

AndrewPeacock · 18/03/2022 20:32

We stayed in the H10 lanzarote princess back before covid and would go back. Really good for kids, especially the heated pool that was outside but covered (kind of like a greenhouse!) as we went in October and the other pools were a bit chilly

MrsClatterbuck · 18/03/2022 20:59

Have stayed in Playa Blanca 3 times and Costa Teguise once and much prefer Playa Blanca. Last time we pushed the boat out and stayed at the Volcano Hotel as a milestone anniversary. It was a bit further out but beside a marina and loved Bar Blanco with its white seating and generous spirit measuresGin
We normally stay in apartments so this was a change. If we had to do it again we would go B & B as evening meal was just ok and we ended up eating else where at night.
We are an older couple so no kids and just enjoy a nice meal at night and then somewhere for a drink and people watching plus a bit of shopping or browsing.
Stayed once in Gran Canaria and much prefer Lanzarote. Will go back and maybe this time we will get the ferry to Feventura I know spelling is incorrect

JorisBonson · 18/03/2022 21:15

@nattergal we're leaving in the morning 😔 but noted for next time, will definitely be back. DH has already said he'd like to come here for his 40th next year.

Can anyone please recommend a good family-friendly hotel for half-board in PB that has rooms with little kitchenettes so you can make basic lunches? It's a bit of a pain to go half-board otherwise.

We were about to book the H10 Lanzarote Princess but it doesn't look as though the family rooms have kitchenettes 😳

parabalabalabala · 19/03/2022 08:45

@Laquila the Flamingo Beach has kitchenettes and is really lovely.

r0ck · 19/03/2022 09:33

Sorry to jump in but you all seem so knowledgable and was wondering if you know much about Vitalclass Sport Wellness resort in Costa Teguise? It seems to have decent reviews from Trip Advisor and I know my kids would love the waterpark but it's their first holiday abroad and don't want to pick a doozy!!

We stayed at TUI Blue Flamingo beach last time, it is in a really lovely area, the beach was gorgeous and the room was fine, we weren't in it much it wasn't anything fancy but was clean and had a kitchenette. We stayed all inclusive as it was pretty cheap to do so, cocktails were syrupy and gross, wine was awful, the food in the buffet was ok but not great, the TUI owned restaurants down the front were better but not included (did get discount though) and the best cocktails were either from them or from the cocktail hut thing other side of beach. We are looking for a different hotel this time just really in search of better food and better entertainment, but it was a really good holiday still and we are considering just going back there because it's coming in so much cheaper than the others! The half boards were looking at our the H10s.

Yebbie the Dreams Hotel at PB Beach is good for toddlers and older children, there is a kids' club too.

What are people's thoughts on the temp of unheated pools at this time of year?

FreakinFrankNFurter · 19/03/2022 21:26

I'm reading this with interest as we're looking for somewhere to go for 11 - 14 nights in May holidays. DS gets two weeks off school then.
Had been looking at turkey or Hurghada but the flight times are awful. Lanzarote is looking like another option based on this thread.
