We went last year with toddler for cheap break with very low expectations and ended up loving it so much we are going back in May. We stayed in Playa Blanca last time, didn't overly rate our hotel but loved the beach and the area. Looking to book one of the many H10's we saw dotted around there this time.

Trying to pick between the one in PB or whether we should try something new and stay in Costa Teguise this time? Anyone been both and have a preference?

@RampantIvy I wonder if it was the same guy?! Apparently he has been there for donkeys' years.

RampantIvy · 16/03/2022 19:11

@allBookkeeperBobby I have just looked on google map. That was where we ate! It was the best meal of the holiday. We went in 2005.

We got chatting to loads of people out and about and they all told us that we wouldn't have a bad meal in Costa Teguise. While none of them were bad, none of them stood out as particularly good either, except for La Tunera.

@JorisBonson
What adults only resort are you in please ?

Jenjenn · 16/03/2022 19:40

We have been to H10 ct four times since dc were born Blush CT has some lovely restaurants and couple of beaches that's it. No shopping or sightseeing. H10 is so brilliant for kids, especially smaller ones. The kids clubs, mini disco, entertainment all keep little ones amused so adults can chill. We find it a super easy holiday, zero organising required just pack swimsuits and some books.

JorisBonson · 16/03/2022 19:57

@LadyEloise1 Meliá Salinas. I couldn't recommend it enough!

LadyEloise1 · 16/03/2022 20:00

Thank you

bestbefore · 16/03/2022 20:24

@JorisBonson ohhh I'm off there soon-with my dc aged 16&18 😬 - have you hired a car at all? Wanted to get one for a couple of days.
What's the food like?

Roselilly36 · 16/03/2022 20:41

Car hire is cheap, the roads are quiet, AutoRiesen, are brilliant, hired from them a few times, it’s only pick up & drop off at the airport only. Avoid Goldcar.

@pixie5121

I've booked Costa Teguise...bit gutted to find out it's windy as I didn't realise it was any windier than the rest of Lanzarote! Is it really that bad?
no, not at all. We went to CT in early October a few years ago and it was still 30c, breezy to cool you down, not blowing a gale.

That said, my Mum had a villa in the hills and found it extremely windy, we were on the beach front and enjoyed it very much.

Sidge · 16/03/2022 21:22

@bestbefore I stayed there in October!

Lovely hotel. Food was brilliant. Gym is amazing. Location superb. I loved it.

Lanzarote is where I'd retire to if I could! We've hired cars and gone all round the island. There's a fantastic restaurant up in Teguise in the centre of the island called La Cantina. Also love the vibe of Haria and La Santa. Strangely never stayed in Costa Teguise but loved Playa Blanca and Playa Flamingo.

BookkeeperBobby · 16/03/2022 21:51

@pixie5121 it's fine. Lanzarote in general is kind of windy: it's a rock in the middle of the Atlantic. CT maybe slightly more so than PB but nothing like the north. There's a lot of flat land so it's not like a wind tunnel or anything. There are some amazing things to see nearby, an artistic amphitheatre in a hollowed volcano, volcanic tunnels repurposed creatively etc, the people who are there have a nice flexible attitude to island living, honestly it's such a good wee vibe.

@RampantIvy ah that's lovely. He's a great guy, genuinely remembers people from one visit to the next, and lovely food. Another one we like in CT is the one near the adult hotel. Spot on seafood and the owner will serenade you while you eat polpo gazing at the ocean, and manages to stay just the right side of cheesey. 😃

JorisBonson · 16/03/2022 21:53

@bestbefore I can't fault the food or the service. Rooms and bar lovely, always something to look at. The pool is a little cold right now so not been in.

Been here almost a week and I've gained about 4 stone 😂 I really can't fault the place at all.

JorisBonson · 16/03/2022 21:55

Ps it's not the liveliest resort I've ever been to but it's very relaxing. We went out in CT last night and didn't come back until the wee small hours so there's that if you want a change.

Yebbie · 16/03/2022 21:57

Anyone going with kids definitely go to Rancho Texas it was fab! The website didn't give much away and we had low expectations of that too to be honest but it was really brilliant!

Yebbie · 16/03/2022 21:59

Not a hotel by the way it's a big zoo/animal park place with a big water park and some brilliant shows.

BookkeeperBobby · 16/03/2022 22:02

Oh god Rancho Texas is so much fun! I'd probably enjoy it even without kids! Agree you don't know what to expect before you go, but when you're there it's like 'oh right, so you've got that as well, wahey'. God knows who thought of it on this little island in the middle of nowhere but they do it really well.

bestbefore · 16/03/2022 22:45

Thanks!

Roselilly36 · 17/03/2022 06:24

Rancho Texas is worth a visit with children, food there is very reasonable for a theme park, you can walk there from PDC. My advice would be hire a villa with a private pool, more space for a family, eating out or takeaway delivery to your villa. Buses will take you to ct, pb if you want a change. Big market at Teguise on Sunday (not Costa Teguise) but Ct have a market in the square, the craft market in the evening is lovely and has some really nice items. PDC also have a market, not sure about PB but I expect they do. Lanazarote can be very windy, but that is something we like about it, never seems to hot. We went every year, for 8 years with our children, until Covid hit, not been since 2019, we all really miss it. The cactus garden is also lovely and worth a visit, and of course Timafaya. Puerto Calero is very pretty, lovely Marina a few shops & restaurants. A wine to the wine region is also a good trip out. And the aloe Vera museum, forgotten which one we went too, wasn’t that far by car from PDC.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 17/03/2022 11:27

I am unsure about going to Rancho Texas - are there animal cruelty concerns? On the one hand I'd like to take the kids as I'm sure they'd love it, but is it a bit dodgy, ethically?

JorisBonson · 17/03/2022 21:27

@nattergal went to La Tabla tonight at your recommendation, was so good!
