Greece with under 12s (covid)
SmallElephants · 10/03/2022 10:35
Hi all
Travelling to Greece in April - 2 fully vaccinated adults and unvaccinated under 12s. Just read that the children will need negative lfts for the plane, and also for all kinds of indoor settings during the trip - anyone had any experience of this and can describe how this is working in practice? Thank you
Ps gutted I didn’t get covid recovery certificates for them when I could - we all had it in Jan but I was sure they were exempt from testing requirements due to their age… I was wrong…

Hi, thanks for sharing your experiences. We’re due to go to Greece with our 5 year old in May and was wondering if it was going to be more stress than it was worth.
Can anyone who’s been confirm details around mask wearing? Is it strictly N95s/FFP2s? And do children have to wear one?
According to the official government pages, they do. But the same pages also say that unvaccinated over 5s can’t go into restaurants etc and it seems that in practice, that’s not the case.

Rules appear to be changing from 2nd May and everything scrapped anyway.

Yes, the rules stated unvaccinated people over 5yrs must have a test 24hrs before arrival (longer if it's a PCR) but like I said we were not asked for it. Kids (8yr old and younger siblings) have been allowed in restaurants and they have not been asked to wear masks. Adults are wearing mostly disposable masks of different types indoors, I have not seen many cloth ones at all here. Locally they say that rules are changing soon.

Just came back from Crete too (17/4) and as our experiences are not exactly the same as some other posters, here our findings (not saying that other posters lied of course, I think it is dependent on how strict reception/client facing staff is on the particular visiting day)
Crete surprised me as most shops/museums still required proof of vaccination/covid tests (visited H&M and Marks and Spencer's in Heraklion for instance). Not the shops in the market street though.
At our hotel upon check in they also asked it and in the restaurant masks were required and you were actively reminded of this. No masks around the pool of course. At Cretaquarium we had to show proof again, even for our kids. All places accepted that our 4-year old didn't have proof/wasn't tested. At the archeaological museum in Heraklion even our 5-year old had to wear a mask. At Knossos no masks nor proof required (but it's outdoors obviously). Masks required at Dikteon cave but no need to show covid pass. Masks also required in the entire airport (Heraklion). All in all we had a wonderful time but I was slightly surprised about the rules being quite a bit stricter than here in BE.

Just a word of warning I've read A couple of news articles saying that the news about everything being dropped from may isn't correct and things have been lost in translation so you still may need to do pcr or lateral flows for all non vaccinationed over 5s . This is not being changed next week as was reported but is being kept under review

Just an update, I am in Greece atm and I have not been asked once since leaving the UK to arriving in Greece for my covid vaccination certificates or my child's. I did a lateral test for my child which has not been looked at or asked for at all.
However mask wearing is still essential in taxi's and some indoor venues. All staff within resort are wearing masks.
