Is Disneyland Paris worth it for a day?

Porthia · 06/03/2022 09:24

In the summer we will be staying at a Eurocamp about 1 hr drive from DL. I had a look and tickets for us as a family of 5 look to be around £450 which seems crazy for the day.

So is it worth it? Wondering if it will be bonkers busy and just spend our time queuing! Or should we save it for a weekend when we can do it “properly”?

Having been pre DC I'd definitely think it would be better to go for a few days.

gogohm · 06/03/2022 09:26

Keep an eye out and see if you can get a special offer. It's worth it time wise for one park but not at that price. I've seen them (2019) for £60 each

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/03/2022 09:29

When in summer? We went in June a few years ago and it was a lot busier on the weekend than the weekdays. This was a time when France, Germany, UK etc were not on school holidays.
I'm guessing July/August would be a lit busier

NuffSaidSam · 06/03/2022 09:32

Not at that price and if it's summer holidays.

If you can get cheaper tickets and you're going outside of peak times it's worth it for a day. Otherwise, wait and go for a few days.

zafferana · 06/03/2022 09:32

The problem with doing it for a day is you get the worst of all worlds - the per day costs are astronomical, plus you've got to rush round and try to do everything. If it's July/August it will also be really busy and possibly hot! So no, I don't think it's worth rushing round in a day, it's better to go for 2-3 days, stay on site and do things at a more leisurely pace. If you can go midweek too, it is MUCH quieter. We went in May half term a few years ago and Tues/Weds/Thurs are the days to go for, if you can. I suspect the midweek effect is much less marked in summer though.

It depends i think on whether you are into rollercoasters and how old your dc are. If they're young enough to be excited about the Disney magic and you're not bothered about getting on all the big rides then yes. If you're going for the rollercoasters you might only get on a few.

Porthia · 06/03/2022 17:43

Thanks! It sounds like it’s not worth it given that it would be in the school holidays at the end of July! That’s what I suspected but thought perhaps I was being miserly!

We’ve got a trip coming up and the level of planning for a trip is crazy. I just don’t think it would be worth it if you’ve got small children for one day. I reckon if you were talking young adults with the stamina to do a full day it would be different but queues seem pretty long unless you pay for a fast pass (which is extortionate as it would be near in 50
-70 euros for one ride for a family of 5.

pairsinparis · 06/03/2022 20:42

We went in October half term with a four year old and 18 month old. Queues were 45mins to an hour and a half each, and no fast pass anymore. We bought queue jumps for a few rides but they were £10-15 per person. We spent so much of the day in queues. I'd say it isn't worth that money for one day

OvaHere · 06/03/2022 21:05

Quite a few years ago I took my 3 kids for the day. They were 13 and under I think. We camped just outside Paris and a day trip was all we could afford.

It wasn't the best day tbh, not what I had in mind. As other posters have said it ended up being rushed and a bit stressy. Not enough time to see everything, we probably saw about half the park. Bear in mind this was also with special passes that allowed us to queue jump because DS2 has a disability.

I'd planned to eat in the restaurant where youngest could dine with Cinderella but discovered you had to pre book. Only having the one day meant that was out the window.

It was actually a really nice holiday in totality but DLP didn't end up being the best bit. We had a lot more fun on other day trips that were less expensive and less stressful.

I don't exactly regret going because it ticked a box I suppose. But if you want it to be something special then I would say you probably have to spend the money and stay for a few days either on site or very close by.

Been a few times but always for 3 nights.....wouldn’t go for a day

Porthia · 07/03/2022 10:03

Thanks all! I’m going to bin that idea for this July.

We might save up and do a big Orlando Florida holiday in a few years to celebrate a big birthday so perhaps that will be better.

Will have a look at other things to do around Paris instead!

Check out Provins which is one of a few UNESCO sites around Paris. This ended up being our best day out of the whole holiday. We got to a see a medieval joust which the kids loved.

There’s websites where you can get tickets for about £60 odd quid. As opposed to £100
You can also take your own food and drink in , if that’s helpful? Ans there’s lockers.
If you’re spending £500 you’d be as well putting another £500 toward it and actually doing it properly for a day and night

sleaf · 07/03/2022 10:33

You'll need more than one day to see all of DLP. We walked 10 miles in one day when there and still hadn't covered all of it...luckily we were there for 4 days.

DouglasCrood · 07/03/2022 10:34

No, I don't think so tbh... that's a lot for a day! It is quite cool, but I honestly don't think it's worth that sort of money

Is that a recent policy? We took a picnic when we went but discovered we couldn't take it into the park. We had to leave our cool bag in the lockers outside the park gates. The only place to picnic was outside the park which is a long trek back if you're already far into the park by lunchtime. We ended up eating in the cafes which I suppose was the point of the policy.
afuckinggoat · 07/03/2022 10:49

I've been around 6 times over the years and only ever for a day trip.
Last time I went was as an adult in June at the weekend and managed to go on everything we'd planned.
We're going for one day this summer on a week day with our toddler. We'll book my favourite restaurant for the evening in advance and pay for fast track for Peter Pan's Flight.
It's doable.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/03/2022 10:49

We took snacks and drinks in 4 years ago. There was loads of places to fill water bottles as well. We only bought ice creams/slushies in the park. (Big hotel breakfast, snacks during the day, dinner around 5pm)

adriftabroad · 07/03/2022 10:54

I used to work there. It's pretty underwhelming and you have to wait for ages for everything. It is horrendously expensive.

So many better things to do in Paris!

mumtoallbhoys · 21/03/2022 14:39

Just back from DLP. I wouldn't do it for one day, much too stressful and you can't move for crowds at the weekend. It would

mumtoallbhoys · 21/03/2022 14:42

Sorry sent too early!

I would never go at a weekend again and it is March.

Don't get me wrong it was amazing for 4 days.

Glorieta · 21/03/2022 14:45

Have a look at Parc Asterix which is about 50 euro per person for a day ticket

SouthOfFrance · 21/03/2022 14:50

I was going to say Parc Asterix too. Really recommend it, I went ages ago but the rides were good and the shows so memorable. We did it as a day trip and seemed to pack in loads.

runforyourdog · 22/03/2022 06:33

Honestly, I think it's a horrible place! We went in November, it wasn't even school holidays but it was SO busy. Save your money.
