Going with DD (24) for four nights. Any recommendations for food and things to see and do?

Getting my Monzo card and everything on order.
Roughly, in an independent should I budget on a portion of Tapas being £6-£8 and a small beer £3-£4. And how much for a glass of Prosecco Grin

About 3E in all but the fanciest places. Cava though, not Prosecco Wink

Malaga is lovely but just a gentle warning.
We had a bag taken by a two man team in a cafe
one who distracts you
pretending to sell pens,
very in your face.
We were disappointed as the cafe staff must see the same people doing this every day!
Luckily just lost money and a credit card but it was very slick!

Interesting thread. Would Malaga be a good place to take 18yo DS for a few days after A levels? Just a mum and son trip.

If so, any suggestions for somewhere to stay centrally maybe with a pool but not too extortionate? Thanks

Sorry to jump on OP

Chesneyhawkes1 · 17/02/2022 07:39

I'm here now. It's glorious weather compared to back home.

This is the 5th time I've been. We usually come this sort of time and again October to get away from the UK weather.

Benalmadena is probably my favourite place to stay. I like the Marina. I'm in Torremolinos this time.

I'm dreading coming home to the wind and rain.

There are only a couple of central hotels with a pool - the Palacia is one and it's fab. Pool isn't huge but there's also a rooftop bar. Otherwise you can stay just a wee bit out of the centre where there are more 'holiday' type hotels (if that makes sense) and walk/taxi in.
22Newnames · 17/02/2022 10:50

Thank you @MaChienEstUnDick (love the username Grin). Will look at that hotel. Any suggestions of good places a bit further out?

HiDay · 17/02/2022 13:58

We stayed here, right next to the station. In fact the window in the lounge area overlooks the platform.

Pool and a fab slide in the reception area!

Easy from Malaga airport (train is in the station). About 20 minute walk to the old town, 5E in a taxi. ( couple of years ago).

Oooo watching with interest. I’m going with just my DD (15) for 4 nights at start of April. Flights booked but no idea where to stay or what to do

Accountsdept · 17/02/2022 14:26

@waytheleaveswork

Hammam Al Ándalus Baños Árabes Málaga

Would recommend this Turkish spa. Right in the centre. You can buy day passes but it does book up quickly. Sorry not sure how to post a link!

Have a fabulous time!

We went here too and loved it, so relaxing!

This Museum is fabulous. Art, fashion, amazing cars. www.museoautomovilmalaga.com/

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/02/2022 14:43

There's a chain of bakeries with cafés attached called Canasta which is great for breakfast or lunch btw. Good service and very good quality pastries, cakes and sandwiches plus you can bread there.

Mum5net · 17/02/2022 15:24

@WeAreTheHeroes
Casa Lola for tapas for lunch - you can't book though.

@Chesneyhawkes1 Can you see if there's a queue at the Casa Lola?

@ruthieness Thank you, DD was an intern in Barcelona in 2019, and organised snatches is definitely a hazard to watch. Indeed in Barcelona I once bumped into a woman at the 'green man' on a street crossing; she screamed at me as she though I was part of a gang

@22Newnames Jump away, thread is for everyone, and I think we may have a few more going soon. We figured out we wanted 'view' more than pool but thanks to those who suggested the Turkish Spa , we're booking that, too
@toobusytothink
@HiDay that looks great we are booked at the www.eurostarshotels.co.uk/eurostars-malaga.html?td=b10ga02&referer_code=ADWORDS_EN&gclid=CjwKCAiAgbiQBhAHEiwAuQ6BklJ5zzV8hg6qj0-5rcpAueGEKe5kH7uTVcu9Birky6S0wTpMb8Z_ZRoC4CwQAvD_BwE

@TheDogsMother Yes, please
@WeAreTheHeroes We have to buy breakfast for three days so that could be on the money (or we may skip breakfast as we are eating every hour on the hour from noon Grin)

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/02/2022 15:29

You've got three days - mix it up!

seekinglondonlife · 17/02/2022 15:32

Stayed in Sun City Malaga (in the Old Town) and the area was lovely, beside the cathedral and lovely independent shops.

22Newnames · 17/02/2022 15:51

Thank you all. Some great ideas to look into.

AC Palacio has rooftop pool and bar, as does the Molino Lario. We stayed at the Salles Hotel Malaga Centro, which also does, but is just outside (like literally just across the bridge), from the Old Town. The other two are down by the port and are in the Old Town. Salles is probably cheaper though and the view from the roof is of the Old Town, cathedral, castle, etc. And yes, I'm guessing your DS would like it. It's a lively place at weekends, lots of bars and restaurants full of young people having a good time, there's a beach, shopping, good ice cream (go to Casa Mira - its sublime).
cptartapp · 17/02/2022 19:43

Just flew back this afternoon. Amazing city, glorious weather. I can only echo what pp have said. We did a Tuk tuk tour too on our first evening to get our bearings. There's an offer on Trip Advisor atm, 40 euros for an hours guided trip for up to four. Well worth it and rather fun.

JaninaDuszejko · 17/02/2022 19:52

We're planning a trip this Easter so I'll just hop on for ideas.

seekinglondonlife · 18/02/2022 07:53

Also Casa Aranda is famous for churros, don't forget to go there.

Beebumble2 · 19/02/2022 12:07

I’m going in a months time. It will be my second visit, DHs first. When I went with a friend, before lockdown we stayed in hotel Maestranza at the edge of the park near the Marina just before the beach.. It didn’t have a pool and was a bit old fashioned, but it was comfortable, clean the breakfasts were very good.
The area was not very touristy so the restaurants were popular with Spanish locals and great value.
There’s loads to do, as suggested by previous posters and it did seem to be very safe, just take the usual precautions. We did see plain clothes police moving on dodgy looking people in the tourist spots.

Mum5net · 20/02/2022 16:26

Can anyone remember if there are any nice little shoe shops?
Need a nice pair of leather flatties to walk up and down the promenade and do the pub crawl. Seems a shame to buy them here before I go...
but see that Ryanair need my cabin case to be just 20 cm deep. Easyjet on the way home is 25 cm, so I can squeeze in another pair for way home...

seekinglondonlife · 20/02/2022 18:15

@Mum5net there was a lovely street where the Picasso museum entrance is, I think it was called Alhambra Street but it had traditional Spanish leather shops with bags and shoes.

seekinglondonlife · 20/02/2022 18:19

@Mum5net just looked it up on Google, it's Calle Granada.
