Far flung, exciting for kids

I have a 9 year old and a 12 year old, we are looking for a far flung holiday that would entertain two extroverts who love adventure style activities - but would provide the feel of the tropics that we love. Where would you go?

Sri Lanka - really diverse, we took our three boys at similar ages to you. Did it all independently it was amazing - elephants, temples, beach, safari. Wonderful food and lovely people. Mexico was also fun. Again did it independently. California -Yosemite camp and trek was also fabulous. Happy to give more details.

Would also really recommend Sri Lanka. Easy to organise independently - we also hired a Mini van guide who really made the trip. Our highlights were polonnaruwa; Udawalawe and the elephant orphanage; Ella abs tea country; Marissa/Tangalle and whale/turtle watching, sigyara Galle and the amazing air bnb properties we stayed in: many with private cooks who were fantastic!

@soundingklaxon Bit late to the thread but I would advise discounting HK as a transit point. Currently transit not permitted from UK and even if it was you wouldn't be allowed into HK itself without 2 weeks hotel quarantine (yeah, I know). Also at the moment only residents allowed to return. No sign of that changing for the foreseeable. Also HK in June can be pretty wet and miserable.
