Only fully vaccinated people allowed into Spain from next week

Hi
I’m Spanish and reading in the Spanish media that from 1/12 only fully vaccinated people will be allowed the entry. This will affect mainly families with teenagers as they will only have received one dose and this doesn’t count as fully.

Oh bugger
We have teens and a house in Spain.
No plans to go for a few months but we were hoping to go at Easter

EasterIssland · 27/11/2021 11:29

Hopefully by Easter this will have been sorted. Seems like it’s related with the new variant.

DH has been pushing for us to book a Xmas break to Tenerife very glad we didn’t now! Two teens who’ve only had one dose

MsFogi · 27/11/2021 11:32

Families with teens are being screwed - the teens have had their schooling messed up yet the government won't even put them on the NHS app or let them have a 2nd vaccine if they want it. They really need to sort this out - particularly if they want to increase the uptake of the vaccine.

dabbydeedoo · 27/11/2021 11:39

I'm booked to go tomorrow. Still not sure whether I should or not with the new variant, but also...it might be the last opportunity and I'm in the best possible situation for it...just had my booster 2 weeks ago so triple vaccinated, live alone, etc. I'm just concerned now about a positive case on the plane. People were telling me chances of that were so low I shouldn't worry but I think now with the new variant the Spanish might be really strict about testing anyone in contact with a reported case, and possibly quarantining them.

Bloody great timing.

fournonblondes · 27/11/2021 12:21

Pretty certain the doors would be open for the unvaccinated again in April when the seasons begins. £££££ . However, very glad I decided not going at Xmas and loosing money and all that.

I wonder is every Xmas or winter would be like this. I would rather move from the U.K. than have this miserable existence.

Yea I thought the same. However many families choose to go to canaries (it’s their high season now ) to spend Xmas and they might not be able to because of this

If you’re vaccinated in tbe uk then even if there is a positive case on the plane you don’t have to self isolate

@EasterIssland that doesn't apply to Spain. They do make you get a PCR test and I'm not sure they couldn't quarantine you if they felt like it. I don't think they would have before but now with this new variant, they might easily change their procedures.

It's just an absolute bummer. Was dithering about whether or not to go and had just decided a few days ago to go and enjoy it because the chances of anything going wrong were so low. We hadn't had a new variant for months. Now I'm not sure.

zafferana · 27/11/2021 12:41

The article doesn't specify what will happen with DC though. Is there any other info about that? We're due to go to Spain for new year ...

lljkk · 27/11/2021 12:50

17y+5m DS just got invite for his 2nd dose. I imagine persons age 12-15 will be invited to have 2nd dose within 3 months.

EasterIssland · 27/11/2021 12:52

@dabbydeedoo you will get askew to get a test in Spain indeed. But if you were wearing the face mask(I travel with ffp2 always) then it’s highly unlikely you’ll have got infected on the plane

@zafferana this is what was there until now

“ The Spanish government publishes and reviews their list ‘risk countries’ every 7 days. All passengers (excluding children under the age of 12 years old) travelling to Spain who have visited a ‘risk country’ in the previous 14 days should be prepared to show evidence of one of the following on entry:

documentation certifying that you have undertaken a COVID-19 nucleic acid amplification (NAAT) test (e.g. PCR, TMA, LAMP or NEAR) within 72 hours prior to arrival in Spain, or an antigen test taken within 48 hours of arrival, and tested negative. See the Spanish Ministry of Health ‘Travel and COVID-19’ page for details.
a certificate or document certifying you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. See the Spanish Ministry of Health ‘Travel and COVID-19’ page for details.
a medical certificate certifying that you have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months prior to travel. See the Spanish Ministry of Health ‘Travel and COVID-19’ page for details.”

So they’re removing the pcr / recovered option and only vaccinated allowed

I think this is exactly what will happen, 12-15 year olds will be offered a second dose in the new year.
gogohm · 27/11/2021 12:57

It was already the case for over 16's when I went last week - we had to prove we were vaccinated to even board the flight

DanglingMod · 27/11/2021 13:01

They'd better start making it a bit easier to get their first dose, too. Vaccines were cancelled twice at our school and by the time they did come very recently, many kids had had it and couldn't get the jab. There were no other places to get one in our county.

zafferana · 27/11/2021 13:13

This won't help anyone going away for Christmas/New Year. To be vaccinated +14 days they'd need to have access to the vaccine within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for the link @EasterIssland. The crazy thing is that my teenage DS is actually double vaxxed - we got him one in the US in August and then he had a dose on the NHS within 12 weeks, so he should be allowed to travel. If they will only accept the vaccination certificate though (which I'm guessing includes the NHS one), then despite him being double vaxxed we'll be fucked Sad

I'm also two weeks out from my booster dose, so my protection should theoretically be the strongest possible and yes, I use an FFP2 mask on the plane. I thought it over really carefully before deciding to go and figured that my risk was absolutely tiny.

I will have to use public transport to get to the airport and stay over at the airport the night before the flight, which I'm not thrilled about given the news of the new variant and the fact people are so incredibly careless here in the UK, but it is what it is, I guess.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 27/11/2021 13:42

I know it's tough for those with teens who cant be vaccinated however I fully support any countries efforts to keep the virus under control

whatagloriousthingtobe · 27/11/2021 14:03

Can't see anything else about this on the main news or when googling ?

Gensola · 27/11/2021 14:28

Does this also include younger kids who can’t be vaccinated? I can’t find anything about this on UK gov travel site yet Sad

I’m due to take my nephew 11 and little bro 12 there on 22 Dec. Worried 12 year old will be caught out!

That’s not good We have found it very easy, DS 12 had it at school and DD 16 at a walk in, she’s just had the letter to book her 2nd dose too
rookiemere · 27/11/2021 16:58

@dabbydeedoo I'd go if I were you. We're currently in Barcelona DS free for a weekend. Obviously there's a slight concern about getting pinged, but I think this is the window - go in the next week or so, or I suspect you won't be going until next Easter. Not that I want to be a doom merchant or anything....
