Only fully vaccinated people allowed into Spain from next week

Hi
I’m Spanish and reading in the Spanish media that from 1/12 only fully vaccinated people will be allowed the entry. This will affect mainly families with teenagers as they will only have received one dose and this doesn’t count as fully.

The answer to this problem is not to give teens more jabs. Not least because the pesky heart problems occur much more frequently after two doses. Three jabs, four jabs…when will it end? They will not make you free.
@dabbydeedoo I'd go if I were you. We're currently in Barcelona DS free for a weekend. Obviously there's a slight concern about getting pinged, but I think this is the window - go in the next week or so, or I suspect you won't be going until next Easter. Not that I want to be a doom merchant or anything....
I was planning to go but it's all kicking off now with the new variant scare mongering. I've already paid for an antigen test and now I need to pay for a Day 2 test and isolate until I get the result...that's the added hassle of hoping the test arrives on time, hoping I get the results on time...it all just feels like too much hassle.

I'm absolutely gutted the PCR requirement has just been brought in. Why on earth can't we just go to a sodding NHS walk-in centre? Even if we had to pay, it would be so, so much easier to just do that on the arrival day or next day than faff about with tests being sent out and finding a drop box to post them in.

dabbydeedoo · 27/11/2021 17:54

I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy a 'holiday' now knowing that the entire weekend after it is wasted isolating at home, and possibly even much longer than that. They make it so insanely difficult. Why not at least set up PCR testing at the airports so everyone coming in can get one?

Holzawolza · 27/11/2021 18:43

@dabbydeedoo I’m the exact same, due to leave on early hours of Wednesday morning…… already bought a lateral flow for day 2 but now need to get the pcr. Saying that, none of the GOV website seem to have been updated ??? Ughhhhh :(

Are you still planning to go? I feel like we've been caught at the very worst possible time.

I just don't want to go abroad and know that I might have to wait and wait for a test to be sent out, and then wait more days for it to be processed, potentially wasting over an entire week. If I could go to a testing centre at the airport, I'd be happy to do that, but there's no walk in at Gatwick, I don't think. It's all such a bloody hassle.

Holzawolza · 27/11/2021 19:12

We are still going, other half can work from home and I have a few days annual leave after we have got back so we are lucky in that respect, but it’s still nearly another £200 we will have to fork out for PCRs :(

What are you doing about the PCRs? Home tests? I can also WFH so in an alright-ish situation, but hate the thought of not being able to go out even if I needed/wanted to. I am also a bit worried about Spain going OTT on contact tracing and ending up stuck there!
Holzawolza · 27/11/2021 19:33

Likely home tests yeah, which are such bad prices.
I think we are going to take it as it comes and if we get stuck we get stuck, thing is we are only there for just under 6 days so fingers crossed 🤞

This is ok as long as you don’t plan to travel. I have to travel if I want to see my family so if my son gets banned to travel because of not vaccinated I’ll have to risk assess and Likw me many other families who will feel they can’t do many things because not vaccinating their kids

Yeah my advice has changed after having to book PCR tests just in case after already having paid for LFTs.
Lockdown Part 3 has now started don't book anywhere unless you have deep pockets and good insurance. Oh well at least we got out and about whilst we could Sad.
Sorry I've drunk too much sangria- I like to be organised, I'd ever have booked if I thought there was a curve ball.

Holzawolza · 29/11/2021 12:09

@dabbydeedoo did you go in the end? We have booked our day two PCRs, Scotland now calling for isolation till day 8 and another pcr on day 8. Praying they don’t do that because we have spent so much money already.

No I didn't go, precisely because I was worried England would do what Scotland are considering, and once in Spain there would be nothing I could do about it. Absolutely fuming given that Omicron is already here and spreading fast thanks to our poor mitigations and chances of getting it here in London are way higher than in Spain but unfortunately I'm not the one in charge.

Are you still going?

Holzawolza · 29/11/2021 14:39

Yeah that’s our concern too, if they go ahead with the day 8 isolation and test that’s a bit awkward for us, though I’ve just heard Downing Street have rejected Scotland’s suggestion of that thank god, I feel it will still happen in the coming weeks though. Still planning to go, we must be crazy haha

EasterIssland · 29/11/2021 15:43

There is a game change with tje jvci advice that 12-15 should get both jabs. If the government approves it then teenagers should be able to fly (tho you need 14 days after the second jab)

OP posts:
FlyingFlamingo · 29/11/2021 15:45

Yes I’m glad they’ve finally seen sense for the teenagers but until they can access Covid passports for travel it’s not yet much use Hmm

whatagloriousthingtobe · 29/11/2021 16:03

I don't think it'll last anyways. It's just being cautious with the new variant. I think come the spring it'll change back in time for the summer holidays

happytoday73 · 29/11/2021 16:08

So if your child is 12 or over & had covid in say October they need to wait 12 weeks for first jab, another 12 for 2nd and then two weeks after that... Doesn't make next Easter even look possible... Perhaps half term if lucky...

Frostytiger87 · 29/11/2021 20:44

We are booked to go to Gran Canaria in Dec but the new rules have changed everything as our teen is 15 and has only had one jab

Frostytiger87 · 30/11/2021 07:31

Your 12 year old is having the second dose Hoppingreen?

zafferana · 30/11/2021 12:11

Second dose is 8-12 weeks after the first @happytoday73, but I appreciate it's still a long process.

The announcement yesterday that 12-15s can get a second dose still doesn't save Christmas/New Year for most, I'm guessing. My DS got his first NHS dose on 27 Oct, so the earliest he could get second dose would be 22 Dec, add 14 days to that for full vaccination effect and that takes us to 5 Jan, thereby making any Christmas/New Year holiday unviable.

bendmeoverbackwards · 30/11/2021 16:21

Gutted about this news. Due to go to Gran Canaria over Christmas, we have a single jabbed teen.

Any chance Spain might do a u turn before Christmas if case numbers go down?

bendmeoverbackwards · 30/11/2021 16:21

Or any ideas where we CAN go instead?

bendmeoverbackwards · 30/11/2021 16:22

Same here @zafferana dd had her jab on 2nd November ☹️

zafferana · 30/11/2021 16:52

It's gutting isn't it @bendmeoverbackwards and most families with a teen will be affected, so will it be enough to make Spain change it's mind? I doubt it.

Having said that, it hadn't occurred to me to go somewhere else, but maybe that's the answer? We've got BA flights, which I guess we could probably move to a different destination and a hotel that is fully cancellable up to 28 Dec. Of course, other countries may change their entry criteria between now and when we go, but I think it's worth researching ... perhaps we could start a new thread?
