Child passport renewal times

I think we've made a huge error. My son had just shy of 6 months left on his passport and we were due to travel to Spain on 22nd October. Having read the government advice it was stated he needed 6 months left on his passport. I sent off the application and old passport last week and have now read horror stories of passports taking at least 5 to 6 weeks. Has anyone renewed recently. I will be gutted if we can't travel. Apparently you can't switch to fast track services now either.

Ok apparently it's on its way 🙏🙏 Just need to hope the courier can find us in time. I'm so stressed I've got earache from grinding my teeth 😱 This is my timeline. Good luck everyone

@MiniCooperLover sorry messaged duplicated. Thanks for sending I’m hoping I get approved today, I’m a child’s renewal docs received 24 Sept. they said it was in examination at 10:37 yesterday but I’ve heard nothing more x

So stressful all of this. Mine was despatched yesterday (despite saying on my timeline dispatched Friday afternoon - apparently it is a computer generated timing...) However, it is saying delivery tomorrow (20th), so I think you have a very good chance of getting it soon @MiniCooperLover. TNT are transferring to Royal Mail for me given my rural location. I am hoping you get good news very soon @NHSgirl. x

Another hour and half on the phone still no closer. Sat with examiner since yesterday 10:37, not sure how much examination a child’s
Renewal takes with a current valid passport but there we go. Well and truly fed up - looks like we will lose this holiday too x

I'm so sorry NHSGirl, could they not give you any explanation for the delay?

No nothing, just said it takes as long as it takes to examine. Helpful!!! Xx

Here's my timeline to save trawling back messages. Hope it helps and keeping my fingers crossed for you @NHSgirl and others. The wait is agonising. (from dispatch to post was within 2 days, so there is still hope for those of you waiting; once posted, it seems to be quick).

Received today 20th Oct (delivered by Royal Mail)
Application approved1:20pm on 15 October 2021 (this is the date on the passport & the automated message said printed and dispatched later that afternoon. I now know it was not dispatched until Monday 18th Oct at 3.30 to TNT, then transferred to Royal Mail)
Documents received10:37am on 26 September 2021
Application received7:39pm on 19 September 2021
Application submitted7:38pm on 19 September 2021

Oh that is great news @NHSgirl - I think mine took so long because it was late Friday afternoon by the time they indicated printing/"on it's way" and the weekend got in the way. I think yours should be dispatched today/tomorrow, so you could have it Friday/Saturday. I really do hope they turn it around quickly now for you xx

Great news I think we are getting ours on Friday too. Approved this morning and then email to say its been sent at 1pm.

Was just about giving up hope.

Is that full House of us all getting our passports back in time?

Nope I'm still waiting for mine spent nearly 2 hours on hold to them yesterday to be told it's still waiting to be examined so they have had it since 11/09 and still no nearer I've moved my flights once and looks like I'm going to have to do it again

@Galaxyheart that is so rubbish. What are they playing at? I do not understand how people that sent theirs after you got approved. I am keeping everything crossed for you and sending positive vibes.

Ours arrived today ... Hurrah … mind you it’s quite badly made so if they let us through with him I’ll be quite impressed 😂

@MiniCooperLover - I thought exactly the same thing. Very shoddy! Like they've set up in a back room somewhere producing makeshift British Passports.....shouldn't complain, just delighted to have the damned thing
Leaving for Edinburgh shortly and off to Gran Canaria tomorrow! Just completed all the forms and printing now. Hours behind schedule, but just glad to finally get on holiday.

I applied online for DS's passport on Thursday evening and posted off his old passport today. It's gone to Durham, I was expecting it to go to Belfast because that's where DD's went and we are in RoI, but I suppose they just allocate where they have capacity. I'll see how long it takes, although we're not planning to travel so there's no rush.

I don't want to make you all envious but I have renewed my Irish passport. I applied online on Thursday evening and I received it this morning in the post. It's extra quick if you consider that yesterday was a bank holiday in Ireland. They must have processed it on Friday morning and posted it to me that same day.

Just received DD passport it's taken 6 weeks from them receiving it to being delivered back unfortunately we cancelled our original holiday but have just booked a last minute all inclusive to Spain instead for 5 nights kids will miss the first day back but I'm not worrying about
