Child passport renewal times

I think we've made a huge error. My son had just shy of 6 months left on his passport and we were due to travel to Spain on 22nd October. Having read the government advice it was stated he needed 6 months left on his passport. I sent off the application and old passport last week and have now read horror stories of passports taking at least 5 to 6 weeks. Has anyone renewed recently. I will be gutted if we can't travel. Apparently you can't switch to fast track services now either.

Just wanted to check-in and say I have returned from hols. 2 weeks in the sun has done me the world of good. Hope you all got your passports in the end and you got to travel. Shall we rendezvous in 9.5 years to remind ourselves that we should renew our passports?
Let's vow never to do that again! Such a stress.
Thanks again for all the support on this thread. I think calling (and getting a lovely sympathetic woman) really did help with my application, and I would not have done that, if it hadn't been for this thread].

I feel so sick in my stomach sent application on 17th October, Docs received 22nd October. It is still on the docs received am travelling 1st week of December and I been on call with them waited 1hr...was so unhelpful I have called 3 times today 2nd one was more helpful.... They said is being examined... Is a child renewal sent to Bootle.
