Day 2 PCR tests

I'm just back from hols in Mallorca having been out there with my husband and 3 kids (all between 5 & 10 years old).

The PLF to return to the UK didn't ask for day 2 PCR codes for the children, it only asked for codes for the adults.

I'm now doubting whether I needed to spend almost £150 on day 2 tests for the kids and whether I need to use them. Me and the hubby will obviously do ours. I just wondered what other peoples experiences were?

@bestbefore isn’t it?! The Spanish form was so much easier to fill out!

@towdenbursgi

Just arrived home. No checks except passports at all so total waste of time, obedience and money!

Your tests are actually linked with your passports (hence having to add passport number to the forms) and come up when you're passports are scanned
If your double jabbed it's on their to

@Rollergirl11

Can someone help me with the Passenger locator form? Do DH and I have to fill out separate forms? I entered information for my two teens but there was nowhere for me to enter DH so he has just created his own. Is that what others have done?

Bye, for the person asking unthread if you answer yes to minors between the age of 12 to 18 it still doesn’t ask you for their Day 2 test code. So it is only required for the adults.

Your husband has to do a separate PLF. I was able to add the children to my one but all adults in our group including my husband needed a separate one.

Sorry Rollergirl11 I can see someone already answered. I'm half asleep today!

I can see why adults need the day 2 PCR and the information is all linked as blueberrywaffle has said. The kids are a different story though.

This is all so confusing! I'm travelling to Paris in October with my husband and two children (17 and 11) As far as I am aware the 11 year old hasn't got to do anything bar a test before we come home, but my 17 year old has to test every 48 hours while there if she wants to be allowed in anywhere, a test before we travel, and one before coming home. If I can get away with not having to order them a day 2 test each, I shall! She got her first jab yesterday, was desperate to but also as far as I am aware, 17 year olds will only be receiving one jab, so in the eyes of the French Government, she wont be "fully jabbed" and will require endless testing. It's such a bloody palaver!

And to think we booked this last year hoping things will have settled down by October this year, Wishful thinking!

Coming back from Majorca the EasyJet check in briefly looked at my PLF which I got the hotel to print out

Coming back from Crete the same but on my phone

Both arrivals at Gatwick the same - scanned passport through walk thru E gates and nothing else checked whatsoever

@Styletryle we are flying 7pm this evening from Palma airport. I have the PLF as a pdf on an email on my phone and DH’s phone. And our printed negative test certificates. It’s definitely much more of a faff then it was coming out, when I could download the Spanish PLF QR code direct to all of our phones.

I’ll let you know what we have to show and when. When are you flying?

@Styletryle

Sunday, thanks *@Rollergirl11* that would be good to know how you get on. I liked having the print outs, I always feel faffed when trying to find docs on my phone! Maybe I'll just try and get everything open in separate windows when we get to the airport.

Do you have a document organiser app on your phone? I use Files on my iPhone, you can create a specific folder with all the PLFs, test results, vaccination passes etc. Then everything is in the same place. Make sure they’re downloaded (not uploaded to some cloud) so even if you don’t have wifi or data you’re able to open all of them.

I only ever travel with electronic copies of my documents and it’s always been okay.

Okay just got home. Had to show PLF forms (she looked all the way through them rather than scan the QR code), proof of double vaccination and negative Covid tests at the desk when checking in our baggage in Palma. That was the only time we had to show anything. Nothing at Gatwick the other end.

It was a total joke at check-in in Palma though. We were queuing for over an hour purely because lots of people obviously hadn’t filled out their PLF’s and were frantically trying to do it at the desk. Lots of people panicking they were going to miss the flight as we were still queuing 20 mins before the gate closed and still had to get through security.

Other than that all went smoothly.

This is a bit of a fiasco isn’t it !

Returned from Cyprus afternoon of 24 Aug , PLF and negative PCR tests ( clinic near Protaras, 28 Euros each, results e mailed to us that evening ) checked at departure gate .

All good.

Day 2 tests registered and despatched 25 Aug in the Royal Mail priority postbox .
Since then - nothing !
Royal Mail unable to confirm if our kits have been delivered, no updates / results from Boots, either by e mail or on website.

Paid £99 each for this “ service”.
Someone, somewhere is making an awful lot of money …..

Can I check that I have correctly understood? It's important to be able to show that you have booked and paid for a Day 2 test because that's needed to compete the PLF? But no one actually checks whether you've done your Day 2 test, so actually you don't really need to worry about quality of service (ie whether the test actually arrives on time or at all) because no one checks that you've actually done the test and there's no need to prove the result. All that matters is that you can show that you paid for a test. Is that correct?Hmm

@LilyPond2, that's my experience.
No checks at the airport on my return (in fact no-one there at all).
My day 2 test was negative anyway. (I came back on the 14th.
It seems to me that it's just a hoop to jump through, but then again, I'm assuming that no-one on my flight tested positive.

Just trying to get my head around this... I can't see what information is required for the PLF because I can't complete it till 48hrs before I travel back. I assume I order day2 tests before I leave and there will be a reference number on these tests to input on the PLF?

Yes, you have to put the day 2 code and name of the test company onto the plf. All our paperwork was thoroughly checked cat the check in desk before they issued a boarding pass

The PLF to return to the UK just says:-
'Covid test booking reference'
You are essentially paying for a code.

They checked on exit from Croatia. People were turned away from check in.
But agree with pp, anyone arranging tests do not use Chronomics. OUr pre flight tests were delivered two hours after our flight had departed. We pre-empted this and had a two hour round trip to the airport the day before costing a further £156 for last minute swabs with Randox so we could fly.
Day 2 tests sent five days ago. Heard nothing.

Daisysway · 29/08/2021 10:52

Is it worth paying for the day2 tests then? I assume no choice because need a code?

Report
Yiayoula · 29/08/2021 11:09

@Daisysway - yes, you need to add the code to your Passenger Locator Form.
As kitz90 said, you are basically paying for a code.
My Day 2 results came through this morning , negative , but still waiting on my husband’s results.

You’re basically paying for a code. For the adults. I didn’t even need to put the kids code on the form. Have to say I wouldn’t buy them for the kids next time. We do LFT before leaving anyway. It’s just all money making. Nobody checks up on the day 2 tests.

Report
Daisysway · 29/08/2021 11:15

Why they can't use NHS LFT tests I don't know... They are just letting these companies milk people... Although I know Lfts can be less reliable..

@SicParvisMagna can understand it feels like a pain reading up about it but having been in France this summer, the French are v strict about passe sanitaire and of course they have been vaccinating teenagers several months now. There is also a lot of mask wearing in busy outdoor places, shops and to the table in restaurants. It feels very conscientious and safe but not OTT. You will not have any problem finding a pharmacie that will test your daughter on the spot each time for 20-25 euro with nasal swab to update her passe sanitaire. Unfortunately the problem arises for visitors from the UK we have been slow to vaccinate teens. Otherwise the passe sanitaire system is really efficient and good and the French government actually took it upon themselves to ensure the nhs codes could be scanned by their app so UK visitors were also welcome! Compared to the utter shambles in the UK with private companies, day 2 tests and online tests etc I think the French have it right!
