Hey,

We recently came back from a holiday.. when we booked it the country was green, the night before we were due to fly it turned amber, as we couldn’t get hold of anyone to change our holiday we still went.. we’ve just got back and the day one of getting home both my husband an I had phone calls to check we were isolating and we also had a knock on the door! Just wondering if anyone else has come back from an amber and how often they check up on you?! We’re sticking to the rules but just wondered out of curiosity.

I had no calls at all. And my day 8 test results didn’t arrive till day 13 when I was back on the flight home.

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 27/07/2021 21:18

I thought you got a fine if you didn't answer the door on 2 occasions?

I'd also like to know who it is doing the knocking and phoning.

I'd be absolutely amazed if the police were involved.

attack and trace Grin

I know someone who had so many calls from them when her DC tested positive on pcr that when she and her partner also developed symptoms they tested positive on a lft but didn't do a pcr or inform attack and trace as they couldn't face more calls!

Copied and pasted from the gov website

Children and young people
All children aged 11 to 17 need proof of a negative COVID-19 test to travel to England (children aged 10 and under are exempt from this).

Children aged 4 and under do not have to take the day 2 and day 8 tests.

Children who are UK residents
On arrival in England, children aged 5 to 17 who are ordinarily resident in the UK:

must take a COVID-19 travel test on or before day 2
do not have to quarantine

Our Day 2 test results came back on day 5 and our day 8 results on day 14
DefinitelyNotAHastyNameChange · 30/07/2021 11:29

I didn’t end up doing a day 8 test 😬. I’d had no contact, it was a 90 minute drive to the postbox that accepted the tests that work had bought for me so I just didn’t bother doing it in the end.

Pissinthepottyplease · 30/07/2021 11:31

@Nootkah

But people dont need to isolate any more if theyre fully vaccinated? Are they still doing this?
From an amber country you don’t need to isolate if everyone from the travel party is either doubly vaccinated or under 18. Except France which is amber plus.
yoursfroobly · 30/07/2021 11:32

I had one call on day 2. So did DH but he missed his so my caller just asked me to confirm he was at home with me Confused.
That was it! We got off lightly

IkkeMig · 30/07/2021 11:52

I had an 8am visit from test and trace on day 1, two phone calls on day 2, nothing on day 3… and another 8am visit this morning (day 4).

Who knows what will happen over the next 6 days!

Allypallya · 30/07/2021 12:41

Im so confused. I didn't think you had to quarantine if you come back from an amber country after the 19th July??
I'm due to fly to Lanzarote next Friday and haven't planned for quarantine???
I'm double vaccinated

IkkeMig · 30/07/2021 13:26

Not everyone has had both jabs. I still have to have my second mid August.

NoviceNewMN · 04/08/2021 13:31

This is crazy. I have a female friend who lives alone who NEVER answers the door unless she is expecting a visit from a friend (she has a place for deliveries to be left). She'd just not answer the door!

You can't possibly be under any legal obligation to open the door. You just have to stay in your place of isolation.

starbrightstarlight8888 · 04/08/2021 13:55

Dsd came back from an Amber country and didn't answer the calls so the police turned up on our doorstep.

Westchesterarms · 04/08/2021 14:02

The police do get involved because they're the ones that issue the fines, starting at £1,000.

Nsmum14 · 04/08/2021 14:10

I had none at all. Text messages reminding me to take tests on days 2 and 8. Flew to Edinburgh.

Augtwo · 04/08/2021 14:58

Home visits seem a bit intense and a waste of resources.

Bayleaf25 · 08/08/2021 17:34

Won’t be thrilled to have an 8am knock at the door after a long days traveling, arriving home late evening with an extra day booked off work to have a lie in and recover.

Scarby9 · 08/08/2021 17:35

Nrighbours had daily phonecalls for each if them and two physical visits - one at 8am.

PlumpCushion · 08/08/2021 19:58

I wonder if they’re checking less now that the school summer holidays are in full swing. They must be ridiculously busy. Imagine the staff they’d need to knock on doors!

PlumpCushion · 11/08/2021 08:39

Bumping this rather than starting my own thread.

Can anyone share very recent experience of returning from an Amber country? Not had both vaccines so am currently isolating but worried my young adult dd may get caught out…

(Just back from greece)

Acquaintance of ours had a (presumably random) police visit despite picking all the T&T phone calls…
PlumpCushion · 11/08/2021 12:14

@notimagain I wonder when this was, though. My DB had daily calls on returning from Portugal late June but DD and I have had nothing at all (arrived Monday night)

PlumpCushion · 11/08/2021 12:56

Ha ha DH missed two calls this morning while on Zoom… I’ve had none. Yet he’s not the one who has to isolate. Go figure!

It was towards the end of May.

PlumpCushion · 11/08/2021 14:15

Ah well I’m imagining they’re too busy for all that now 🤷‍♀️
