Flights - does everyone have to isolate if one positive case

Just that really - does anyone know if someone has a positive Covid test and you're on the same flight does everyone have to self isolate?

I don't know if it's required, but the air conditioning systems on an airplane are perfectly suited to spreading airborne viruses so it would seem sensible.

Mindymomo · 21/06/2021 15:28

It has been reported that where there is a positive case on a plane, everyone travelling on same flight has to isolate.

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 15:30

Thanks @Mindymomo for confirming.

That certainly used to be the case.

It's now't to do with the virus circulating via (hepa filtered) air conditioning, it's more to do with worries about the possibility of physical close contact moving in the aisles/boarding, etc, if it's an airline that does "free seating",or if people more around in flight the authorities have no way of knowing who sat exactly where throughout the journey.

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 15:52

So do we know if it's an airline with fixed seating if whole plane isolation would be required?
Weighing up risk of foreign holiday just before autumn term, am pretty sure we'll not be going.

@rookiemere most countries require isolation when you get home anyway at the minute - there's almost nowhere on the green list. So in my head it doesn't really make much difference.

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 15:57

@chocolatesaltyballs22 this is for August though - just in case the country goes on the Green list.

This doesn't really answer your question but FYI I've just been in touch with somebody who got caught by this earlier this year - allocated seat, paperwork all OK etc..several days after arrival in UK got a telephone call from T&T telling them to isolate....They (T&T) wouldn't or couldn't tell that individual whether everybody on the flight was being told to isolate or just those adjacent'ish to the contact....Data protection? who knows...

It would be interesting to get a definitive answer if somebody can give one.

jonjoy · 26/06/2021 18:31

@rookiemere we were contacted by T&T on day 5 (just after getting back from paying for and getting day 5 test to release test). We were told to isolate for full isolation period despite day 5 test being negative as someone on flight was positive. They wouldn't give info on our proximity to positive case.

thedevilinablackdress · 26/06/2021 18:34

Depends on the rules of the country you're arriving into at the time? And those seem to change frequently.

Medstudent12 · 26/06/2021 19:17

Also keen to know this! I would hope not given how huuuuge some planes are.

That's why I don't think testing prior to getting on plane is a hassle if it reduces chance of needing to isolate ruining your holiday. A risk we take I suppose!

rookiemere · 26/06/2021 21:12

Thanks folks - looks like we might be going to Majorca after all now - so fingers crossed no positives on the plane

Pootle40 · 26/06/2021 22:24

We've just booked to go @rookiemere Grin

rookiemere · 26/06/2021 22:32

Fingers crossed it doesn't go back to amber @Pootle40

OP posts:
Pootle40 · 26/06/2021 22:40

To be honest the amber doesn't really bother me as we both wfh but would be good if it remains green. We are back 16 days after it turns green. If it turns amber before then the govt are just taking this piss....but I suppose we know that already! I applied for my husbands vaccination paperwork on the nhs Scotland site....not that we need it but on the off chance Spain require that or test to get in. Up to 21 days to receive it!

We're going too - next weekend! So excited!
rookiemere · 27/06/2021 07:45

@Pootle40 I requested my vaccination paperwork last week and it arrived within 2 days.

Oh brilliant that's good to know! 😄 hopefully at some point we can do it online ourselves again.

Watapalava · 27/06/2021 11:01

I heard only those in certain rows are asked to isolate

Pootle40 · 28/06/2021 13:02

@rookiemere @chocolatesaltyballs22 just saw that from 1st July Balearics will require negative pcr or proof of double jags if aged 12 and over in order to enter.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 28/06/2021 13:17

Thanks @Pootle40 I saw that too. Currently trying to find out whether my passport being in a different name to my vaccine proof is going to be a problem.

Pootle40 · 28/06/2021 13:24

Jeezo! Such a pain. I've booked my test but will wait a day or so for hubby and see if his double vax paperwork arrives. Seems ridiculous that down south they can get their confirmation on an app. Can't the developers speak to each other....what a joke (and waste of money) that each country has its own system!

Medstudent12 · 29/06/2021 10:33

@Pootle40 are you in Scotland?

Pootle40 · 29/06/2021 10:35

Yes

SVRT19674 · 29/06/2021 10:45

I´m in Spain and when this has happened only those sitting beside this person, the person across and those sitting in front or behind were told to isolate.
