France - would you still go?

Hey,

We have 10 nights in a camping village booked for august.

Dh & 1 are both double jabbed and the kids are under 11 so don't need to PCR. And currently we can enter France without an isolation period.

I just can't decide if going is the right thing to to do or not?

Accommodation is self contained and self catering and we'd be very happy chilling at the beach/pool for 10 days and wouldn't use kids clubs anyway as just not for us. Our travel is in our own car and on the Eurostar. We can afford the time to quarantine when we get home.

Currently covid rates are less in France than here.... it all sounds like a no brainer to go!

But with so many feeling travel is 'too risky' I can't decide!

Anyone else going for it with a self drive? Or anyone cancelled?

Jesus Christ your poor neighbours. How about you just mind your own business?

Because there actions would have an effect on others!

This whole pandemic would have been a lot better if everyone hadn’t been so selfish and wore masks when there meant ti and stayed at home when they are told to! It would have been over by now.

An observation:

Policing other peoples' travel or worse still proselytising on the matter, can and has ended up being very embarrassing very quickly for some individuals in the last year, most especially when the person doing the preaching is not in possession of all the facts.

If policing is needed it really is really is best left to the professionals,

What data? Did you see the data from the NHS Test and Trace I tagged you in earlier today, showing that zero variants of concern came into the UK from amber countries? And that the positivity rate of travellers is 6 times less than the general UK positivity rate (0.4% vs 2.4%)? What other data do you have? [/quote]
Frustrating that facts continue to fall on deaf ears. The focus needs to be on being careful and vigilant on a personal level. Never mind telling your neighbours where they can and can't go on holiday.

@Flower8919 it's their. THEIR. And the data clearly proves that THEIR actions (ie those travelling) does not impact on others. People like you make me really angry. Mind your own damn business.

Sorry if my grammer wasn’t totally correct! That’s not the point here.

It might not impact now because most people are sensible and not going but if everyone went abroad I’m sure the data would change quite quickly

You are COMPLETELY missing the point of the data which has already been released. Over 23,000 people have travelled to amber countries since travel opened up, and of those only 0.4% tested positive on their return. In the meantime, rates in places like Cornwall are sky rocketing. It doesn't take a genius to work it out. Like someone has already said, leave the policing to those who have the authority to do so, not randoms on the internet telling people (and their neighbours) what to do.

@Flower8919 do you really believe that? Everyone was locked up in November and despite what the damning media photos try to show, people have been largely following the rules and wearing masks the virus was potent. Nothing can stop this thing unless we all crawl under our own individual rocks for several years. Let's move on. These viruses are here to stay. Go and live your life.

By the way, if you are double vaxed you only need an antigen test to get into France, nothing else, and kids under 11 don't need to do anything.

Ah that's lovely to hear @Melitza, it's so good that tourists are welcome. I know that Greece and Spain are also desperate for the tourism income.

I am actually not out to ruin everyone’s fun and wish people could have normal holidays abroad. I’m just going off the government advice who are in turn advised by national scientists.

Amber doesn’t mean just go on a nice summer holiday there. It means essential travel only and I don’t think taking your kids on holiday is considered essential. I know it isn’t always clear and they’re has been a lot of confusing advice so that is why I am letting people know

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 22/06/2021 11:36

Ah well that's ok then Flower because I'm not taking my kids as they're older teens. If the government want to go then they need to make it illegal. It's not illegal. It's like the whole go out but don't go out thing, stay safe but eat out to help out. It's bollocks. And it's entirely political and designed to force people to spend money in this country. Regardless of the fact that UK tourist spots simply don't have the capacity to accommodate everyone in the UK on a summer holiday, and ridiculous prices are being charged for shit-hole caravans in Filey. No thanks, I'll stick with me Greek island thanks very much.

I agree it wasn’t handled great but whatever the government do somebody is going to criticise them. Whether right or wrong they have classified amber as essential travel only.

They're overcompensating now with unreasonable travel policies to take the edge of criticism for not being proactive enough with the red list back in April. Hancock was bragging this morning that the UK supposedly has one of the toughest border policies in the world. Data shows it's not nearly as effective as they wish us to think is irrelevant and falls on deaf ears like in this thread. People are clearly happy enough that something is being done and don't feel the need to question the logic behind it.

Cornwall and Cumbria are infection hot spots, the o

Given everything you have said, I would go. No riskier then travelling in the UK with the exception of it turning red whilst you are there. The benefit of having the car is if there is a chance of that happening you pack up and return home by any means you can.

Erm what's someone going to report me for? I'm not breaking the law. And I will quarantine and take all the tests being asked of me. That's quite possibly the most ridiculous comment I've ever read on here. I know lots of people who have travelled to amber list countries. They're not getting 'reported' because they're not doing anything wrong!

Seconded..

FWIW some of the local British second home owners started arriving in our area OK from the UK in the last few days..from what I've heard all travelled iaw with all the rules and requirements as laid down by both the UK and French authorities and travelled without any hassle at all.

What are you talking about? Travel is NOT ILLEGAL, even from red list countries!!! You just have to follow the rules, whatever they are, for your destination and it's traffic light listing.

There was a ban on overseas travel for all but essential reasons, BUT IT ENDED ON 17TH MAY.

Brittany Ferries have just cancelled our ferry sailing in August from Poole to Cherbourg due to the ‘uncertainty of the international travel situation’ 🙁
In addition we are travelling with 3 young adult children, who won’t have been doubly vaccinated by then....

You can actually be fined for going to amber country if it isn’t essential travel I think.

@Sidney. I am sorry to hear that. But this is another reason not to go or if you do decide to go then expect things like this to happen

There is a FB group called "Travel Between UK and France" which some of you may find helpful.

You just need to watch out as the posts are sometimes unclear about the direction of travel, and at the moment there is not a lot about "holidays" as such, but plenty of recommendations about testing options etc etc
