Who’s going?

OP posts:
Oblomov21 · 14/05/2021 16:42

Not before May 30th?
What about the champions league football fans going to Porto stadium on 29th?

FizzyPink · 14/05/2021 17:01

Yes Monday 17th with a negative PCR test 72 hours before. The state of calamity has nothing to do with letting tourists in

Egghead81 · 14/05/2021 17:07

Really happy for those who have holidays in Portugal booked!!

And you’re off...!

Although I suspect some will be mightily pissed off (but that makes it even more sweeter! Grin)

I’m going to Portugal on the 28th with my children as my parents live there and my brother, I haven’t seen them for so long that I’m beyond excited.
The testing situation still seems a bit uncertain and I’m hoping Portugal announce any changes to that on Monday as at the moment children over to need to be tested to enter Portugal but children under 11 are exempt in the UK.

This has really annoyed me i need to get my 2 year old tested to go. I assume as under 11s don't need it to come into the UK i don't need to get him tested on return like the adults have to be?
Thischarmlessgirl · 14/05/2021 21:03

Yes, so I have to have my children tested to arrive in Portugal but as they are under 11 not the departure from portugal test or day 2 in the UK. Unless Portugal change the criteria from Monday....I’ll wait until then before ordering my tests! The Portuguese tests are around 45 euro so significantly cheaper

Fuckingcrustybread · 14/05/2021 23:31

@Egghead81

Portugal holidays will go ahead this summer - I’d put a bet on it.

Care to take me up on that @Fuckingcrustybread?!

There's nothing to "take up" I wouldn't take a child up on anything You seem to be incapable of understanding that Portugal has its own Government and will make its own decisions about allowing travel to their country. Other people on this thread have tried to explain you don't want to hear or you cannot comprehend Possibly you are unable to understand that England doesn't have the right to dictate how other countries are run. The decision to allow British holiday makers was made today.
Egghead81 · 15/05/2021 06:17

Good on you @Fuckingcrustybread, you took the news well Grin

@Thischarmlessgirl I thought the test on the way back from Portugal had to be 2 days after you land in the UK? What advantage is it to get the tests in Portugal? We are only going for 4 days so having to have x2 PCRs and x2 lateral flow tests each within the space for 8 days 🙄
Thischarmlessgirl · 15/05/2021 09:12

Apparently you have to have a test in the country you have been to three days before you arrive in the UK (You must have a negative result before boarding the plane) then the third test is on day 2 in the UK. Obviously if the test I had in Portugal was positive I would then have to stay there and they wouldn’t let me land in the UK.
Perhaps it’s different if you are only staying for a few days? I’m there for nine

Curlysusie · 15/05/2021 09:18

Family of 4 must be looking at at least £400+ for tests?

Thischarmlessgirl · 15/05/2021 09:37

@Curlysusie Yes I’ve worked out mine are going to be £60 each outgoing and day 2 return, then in Portugal 45 euro for me (under 11s are exempt in UK) so we only have to test all of us to get into Portugal and to return it’s just me as under 11s are exempt. So £60 x 4 to go then 45 euro and another £60 so roughly £330

Curlysusie · 15/05/2021 09:50

@Thischarmlessgirl
I think we're going to have to bail at this point. It such a big expense and I'd be worried about the children's outbound ones coming back inconclusive and adding an extra element of stress 😬. So nearly made it out there!!

Thischarmlessgirl · 15/05/2021 10:00

@Curlysusie I understand 😞 I have less risk in the sense I stay with my family if we had to stay longer with a positive test. I’ve had both vaccines as have my family members in Portugal but there’s obviously still a risk. I hope you get to have a break soon

namedchangedforthisone · 15/05/2021 10:25

@Thischarmlessgirl
We land in Portugal on the Friday and leave on the Monday and planning on getting the test results before we go on the Thursday so I think that means (i hope!) because it will be within 72 hours of arriving we don't need to test out there only by 2 days after we get back in the UK?

Thischarmlessgirl · 15/05/2021 10:26

@namedchangedforthisone I think you should be covered 😊

There’s a company (article on linked in) that are doing tests for £32. Literally saw it this morning.

namedchangedforthisone · 15/05/2021 13:28

@Faultymain5 do you have the link please?

namedchangedforthisone · 16/05/2021 10:49

@Thischarmlessgirl we have just cancelled it. Was too much stress and financial implications of all the covid tests required. Hopefully go next year

Thischarmlessgirl · 16/05/2021 14:00

@namedchangedforthisone - I’m sorry but completely understand I’ve been ordering our tests today and it is expensive and stressful x

namedchangedforthisone · 16/05/2021 15:34

@Thischarmlessgirl thank you. I hope you travel with ease and have a lovely time

MrsTumbletap · 17/05/2021 20:10

@Thischarmlessgirl do you mind me asking what tests you ordered and from where?

I am still confused on the whole PCR test before you go, how and where, then the lateral flow out there and then the PCR when you get back. Have you found a website that makes it clear?

Thischarmlessgirl · 17/05/2021 20:16

@MrsTumbletap I ordered mine from Randox Health who are in partnership with Easyjet and BA. I’ve just taken the info from the gov.Uk site for entry into Portugal and entry into the UK.
So for Portugal anybody over two years of age needs to have a negative test within 72 hours before travel. Then returning to the UK you also need to have a negative test within 72 hours of travel but only for those who are 11 years and over. Turn on day two in the UK need to have another test.
My family live in the Algarve and PCR tests are around 45 - 65 euro, apparently Faro airport are offering fast testing but not sure of the details yet.

Butterfly44 · 18/05/2021 16:30

@Thischarmlessgirl Randox Health are awful. Would never buy from them again. PCR reference wouldn't register. No customer service, mail drop off locations only open specified times that they don't tell you. Lots of negative reviews online. Basically take your money and don't deliver. Which is dangerous in a pandemic where positive samples and variants should be traced.
