Will you go abroad?

DH and I have been discussing our holiday booked for France in July and we’re just not sure.

Whilst we’re desperate to go on holiday, with rates unpredictable once things start opening up again, and officials saying foreign travel will still be ill advised even when it’s legal, it feels almost irresponsible to go? I don’t know. What’s your stance?

If I wasn't pregnant we'd probably see how things played out of the summer and then possibly go abroad in the autumn. But as I'm due in August we're going to stick to the UK this year!

We have Greece booked for mid June and still planning to go, even though it's currently Amber. Everything can be cancelled until quite late. Tbh we went to Greece last Aug/Sept and it was fine. Voluntarily isolated for 2 weeks before we went, had an amazing time, ate outside and kept ourselves to ourselves, never got ill. Bonus is this time we'll have both had the vaccine. I think DH and I get less risk averse as we get older but appreciate harder for people with kids.

No. I can't be arsed with the uncertainty and speculation. I'll go abroad when I know I can definitely get my suitcase out of the loft.

Want to visit pripyat. I'm really interested in visiting Pripyat and Chernobyl, as I find the history fascinating, and how post apocalyptic it looks.

The leisure and hospitality industry has been hit so hard by Covid in the U.K., not to mention other businesses. I think we all have a duty to stay in the U.K. this year and spend our money here.

We have family and friends abroad but we are holding out one more year. Too much risk if things changing at short notice right now. Too many restrictions. Having my dc wear masks for a 9 hour + journey (including airport time) not ideal

osbertthesyrianhamster · 24/05/2021 09:01

Yes. Newsflash: life is not safe.

Manydaysgoby · 24/05/2021 09:03

No, we’re staying in the UK this year. Couldn’t afford to quarantine in a hotel if situation changed while we were away.

Planning to go to one of the Greek islands in 5 weeks time as long as easyjet don't cancel the flight!

Sirius99 · 24/05/2021 12:09

Why are people, inc op desperate for a holiday? Can fully understand if you’re working in the NHS,

ElizabethTudor · 24/05/2021 12:13

No.
If nothing else, the queues / border control chaos are enough to put me off.

Parker231 · 24/05/2021 12:49

Am desperate to travel to see our families in Belgium, US and Canada. Will be travelling to see them as soon as possible.

zafferana · 24/05/2021 13:52

We've decided that if the US remains on the amber list we won't be going. DH will go and see his DM soon on his own, but the tests are looking at being around £350 just for him, plus 10 days quarantine on return. We won't be doing/spending that for four of us. So it's either green + go or amber --> cancel.

I don’t think I can be bothered with the hassle to be honest. We went to Corfu last year as we had booked pre covid and wanted to get away, it was lovely once we were there, but the run up and all the horror stories of people testing positive on arrival and being forced to quarantine over there made the run up quite stressful. I’m not sure I can be bothered with it all again. Hopefully we’ll do something extra special next year.

Though I do have two weeks booked off in august and if all looks more relaxed I’m not completely ruling out a last minute get away Grin
