Hello! So, as above really.
Me and my oh are wanting to get married in Mexico either end of next year 2022 or the start of 2023. We’ve both been before and fell in love with the place. We will have 3 children by then (currently 9 weeks preg eeek). What we’re really struggling with is whether to basically elope with our parents present, 1 bridesmaid and 1 groomsmen, or invite everyone. We both have pretty big families and I’d imagine a lot would decline, but my family are also the type to get really offended if we just eloped and didn’t invite them at all. One of the main reasons we thought of elopement was to keep costs to a bare min. Is that selfish? I’m just so confused with it all! Any help much appreciated or even if you’ve been in the same situation before thank you!

I think for young people, parents are paying where costs of housing are high. My DD hadn’t been to one paid for by the bride and groom! She’s 28 so a few more years to go though! She’s said she will pay! Plus we have virtually no relatives so all her friends would be invited.

If you have a house, a lowish mortgage and excess income of course you can pay. Many younger people are not in this position though. DD seems to think she would be after a very generous gift from her parents to buy a flat!

Honestly?
If you have a big family who would love to attend your wedding do not call in that enthusiasm by making it hard / expensive for them to attend. Family are your future support, your security and stability. A wedding is one day.

Get married at home in and amongst everyone you value in your lives, and have your honeymoon in Mexico.

Having seen the number of virus cases in Mexico - they are world leading!

OP, do the small thing in Mexico and a party when you get back. Sounds lush! Ignore all the misery peddlers.

I have a large family and am very close to my parents, yet still eloped. My husband is my future, but it doesn't mean I love my family any less.

That’s eloping, not holding a destination wedding and expecting various people to attend.
