Can you share your ideas for New Years Eve?

Me and dh normally go away New Years Eve because its so rubbish where we live.

We have exhausted Dublin/Newcastle/Manchester and would like to do something a bit different this year.

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas, or what youre doing? It cant be mega expensive, i would say £400 tops but preferably cheaper than that

Edinburgh? The Highlands of Scotland in a cosy cottage, log fire, a wee dram?

mosschops30 · 06/10/2007 10:27

Now that sounds nice, dh never been to scotland, I have but years ago as a child. Will have a look at cheap flights. Any suggestions on where to stay?

When I stayed in Edinburgh it was about a ten minute bus ride from the City centre but I don't know exactly where! Tourist board would be able to advise you.

re Highlands, my favourite place is Glencoe/Kinlochleven area, I would love to holed up there at New Year with my family and a big fire and lots of food - I will do it one day.

There were some cottages I had my eye on, I'll see if I can find them and link.

Tottie32 · 06/10/2007 18:38

what about london eye? river cruise?

are you trying to avoid clubs etc?

Vikkin · 06/10/2007 18:56

I always find NYE difficult, have ended up staying in the past few years. Whereas pre-DCs, NY was bigger than Xmas for me.
Will be watching this thread, looking for ideas to include DS(13) and DD(6). Would not dream of taking them to a houseparty as I think it's horrid for kids. Drunken grown ups stumbling about with their fags at kid face level, ugh. But most of our friends think houseparties are great.
Had thought of booking a room at the Marriott on South Bank next to the London Eye, should be able to get a really good view of fireworks, either dine there or pop across the river to the West End.

MerlinsBeard · 06/10/2007 18:58

we always sleep!

with £400 to blow on a night out i would be booking a holiday instead for later in the year personally...or having a really f*king good xmas!

Tottie32 · 06/10/2007 18:59

i would also like something to include dc's, being a lone parent i have them every year, and normally stay in

mind you they are 10 and 4 so maybe a bit young still

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 06/10/2007 19:00

My friend Ellbell goes away every new year with her family and kids and all their best friends, families and kids! It sounds fab! That would be my chosen way to spend new year! (If respite carer took DS at NY lol!)

tiredemma · 06/10/2007 19:02

Come to Birmingham Mosschops.

Tis lovely

mosschops30 · 06/10/2007 22:39

has to be something without dc's

I was just looking at the Hilton in Leeds. 2 nights for 2 from 30/12/7, at £64.50 per room per night for bed and breakfast, evening meal on the first night...arrange something for New Years eve in Leeds?
We always stay in + my husbands working this New Years Eve..he's a copper so he won't get any time off at that time of year!

mosschops30 · 06/10/2007 23:54

What is the Hilton in Leeds like? And where is nice to go out for drinks. We dont want to just go out on the town, we could do that in Cardiff, are there any nice little areas of Leeds to enjoy drinks.
Very reasonable room rate though

I haven't stayed at the Hilton in Leeds, I'm just a Hilton fan and was browsing! Mixed reviews on Trip Advisor about it, but I'd stay there! I'd want to stay in the hotel for New Years Eve myself as it just gets soooo busy doesn't it? Went on a website to look to see if the Hilton in Leeds was doing anything, came up with this:

^Hilton Leeds City - Family New Year's Eve Celebrations
City 3 Restaurant, Yorkshire

Ring in the New Year in a family environment at the Hilton Leeds City. Enjoy a sumptuous 3-course carvery style meal plus coffee and a disco to entertain you through to the early hours! Drinks in the City 3 Bar from 6.30pm with dinner bookings available from 7.00pm till 9.30pm, then dance the night away with our resident DJ until 1.00am. Smart dress required.

Adults £40.00 per person
Children £15.00 (5?12 years)

The New Year?s Eve family celebration dinner will include younger family members and may not be suitable for couples.^

Just note that bit at the end about not being suitable for couples?

Otherwise sounds good?
